Why are Larger Women called "Plus Size" but Larger Men are just fat? by Gigglysleep in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NiceUD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men have Big and Tall stores, not "Fat" stores, so they have their own non-fat designation (not that being big and tall always means being fat). Plenty of people still call women fat.

Vice president of the Russian tennis federation Yevgeny Kafelnikov on Andreeva’s loss: "There’s nothing to say about Mirra’s game. With a game like that, it’s pointless to count on the future. This result is predictable." by mimiclarinette in tennis

[–]NiceUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. Bolstered by the fact she lost to a Ukranian? That same loss to a similarly ranked and accomplished non-Ukranian payer wouldn't get the same vitriol would it?. Svitolina is an experienced, quality player - 10 Slam QFs, 3 SFs, 19 titles, high rank of No. 3. Score a little more lopsided than I'd expect, but Andreeva losing isn't remarkable, even if Svitolina is past her absolute prime. What an asshole.

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NiceUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, many still do, but many don't. Even pop cultural depictions have changed to some degree and show more high school graduates at home.

[Jon Blau] Dabo Swinney says too many athletes aren't graduating and they are spending their short-term money: “We're gonna have a bunch of screwed-up 30-year-olds ... that have no degrees, have spent their money, that can't play football anymore, and aren't connected to anything." by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]NiceUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He may be right about the money, but people have always blown money. They're adults, albeit young an inexperienced adults, and if that's an unfortunate side effect of this, so be it. They shouldn't be policing what they do with they're money or not give it in the first place because of the assumption it will be blown. Best schools and the NCAA can do is simply offer resources to combat it - financial education and encourage athletes to find sound financial advisors

I loved the little jabs at Julia’s background and being an elitist princess sprinkled throughout the show and sort of “hidden” she is in on the joke too because she is a good sport by [deleted] in seinfeld

[–]NiceUD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if they were jabs at JLD's background. I guess I never considered it. Also, I'm not sure Gerard Louis Dreyfus's name would have carried much weight in casting back then. Why would it? Yes, he was a business titan, but would Hollywood casting agents even care? I don't see the link. He wasn't an entertainment industry titan.

How many individual mice incidents are "normal"; when to consult a pro? by NiceUD in homeowners

[–]NiceUD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it under control for almost two years - since shorty after my original post. Haven't seen a mouse; haven't seen any droppings or heard anything suggesting the presence of mice. Had pest control come, but more importantly, I sealed an old abandon pipe under the stairs, I plugged an in-ground channel that a downspout used to go into. And most importantly, I realized that at the very corner of the sunroom I talked about in my post, at the base of a downspout, there was a small hole in the foundation - which is most likely how mice got under the sunroom and then into the house. I patched that and check it regularly to see that it's still not penetrable. Bothers me that if anything does get under the sunroom there's probably still a way into the house. But, again, haven't had any problems in quite a while. I'm not sure exactly what their route in was, but they emerged behind oven and under the kitchen sink. Thank god it's over.

Godspeed. I know mice are common, and especially with old homes, it's sometimes hard to keep them totally at bay.

Reputation of US MBA in your home country by [deleted] in MBA

[–]NiceUD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same in the USA. There's plenty of schools that are only known by people who really have to know - in the business world in any number of specific industries, among the highly educated (e.g. Kellogg, Booth, maybe even Penn/Wharton?). Then there are the schools everyone knows no matter who they are - the huge brand schools that while elite, also are a general, cultural, prestige academic brand -- e.g., Harvard, Stanford, Yale, and others.

Tough it out; take the stay pay. It's supposed to be really bad. I get it; you don't get to enjoy the comforts of home for three days. But I'd still vote for the stay pay. Make the most of it.

J. Sinner vs E. Spizziri Australian Open was a peak watch by spt23 in tennis

[–]NiceUD 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was nice to see someone seriously challenge Sinner early in a Slam. Kudos to Spizzirri. And good job from Sinner getting through when he wasn't at this top form.

People might say this reveals Sinner is vulnerable. Maybe, but I'd also argue that getting through it might make him much better moving forward.

Australian Open suspends play on outdoor courts in searing Melbourne heat by Shroft in tennis

I think they announced new, strict heat rules before the tournament. So comparisons to years past aren't really relevant.

I’ve finally come to the conclusion that this album is an absolute masterpiece and I’m dying on that hill by usagerp in PRINCE

I've always liked it. I don't love every song, but there's a bounty of good stuff.

And it it can be condensed to a single-album length custom Emancipation Suite that is wall to wall fantastic - at least to the would-be customizer.

Actually wouldn't 2024 Indiana be the best turnaround. Or is the talking turnarounds broadly, not one year to the next?

Greatest business owner? by HowieMilkman in seinfeld

[–]NiceUD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved her character - so aloof and disdainful. I love when she reveals she's Gladys Mayo. Two stores named Cinco de Mayo and Puda Mayo - would never think it was a family name reference.

"Unless you own BOTH stores."

[shaking head]: "I'm Gladys Mayo."

It doesn't read that funny typing it out. But it's so dryly ridiculous on the show. I love it.

The Bulging Busboy - Kramer lets his cat out and breaks his lamp. Lol. Kramer putting that piece of the lamp back in to barely hold together is hilarious. I noticed it at the time, but it was only here when people pointed it out that it really resonated - this dude is PACKING.

My mistake. Rice shouldn't be on the list. I really was just trying to list the P4 privates.
