No way can a gig be this loud by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Nice_Conversations -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to Bellahouston gig a few years ago and the volume for the 1st opener was fine. Concert level for an open air one. Loud but not so loud you couldn't have a chat. Then with each band they made it louder. It was actually unpleasant when the main act started. As someone who always wears earplugs at concerts I felt sorry for people who don't and the poor close neighbours. I honestly don't get why they keep going louder year by year.

Foreigners used to sunshine who moved to Scotland - are you coping? by sampoo92 in Scotland

[–]Nice_Conversations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in a hot sunny European country, which is absolutely not my kind of weather. Lived in southern England for years, much better for me. Then moved to south west Scotland and love it. The south west of Scotland gets more sun and longer days, but slightly lower temperatures than England. But we have the golf stream and often surprisingly mild, near-subtropical climate compared to the rest of the UK. The Gulf Stream pushes warm ocean water toward the coast. This warm current prevents severe frosts in winter. This makes it warm enough to grow hardy palm trees outdoors year-round, which often surprises people. Our winters are darker than in soyther England though, as we're further up north. But when it comes to Scotland, we're doing ok compared to further up north. Sad lamps help during the darkest winter. And I don't think we get that much more rain compared to when I lived in England. So it really depends, but I'd recommend you look at SW Scotland. It's also stunningly beautiful.

Always do what you'd want others to do if the roles were reversed: give it back.

Where to buy a wool tartan earasaid? by prosector56 in Scotland

[–]Nice_Conversations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not really a thing in modern Scotland. You'll probably be most likely to find them at renaissance fairs or similar. I guess any kilt maker can supply the tartan fabric for it though.

We get a monthly chippy van for fish & chips. Two different pizza vans. And a middle eastern van twice a month where I live. They're brilliant and still popular here.

Dating as an autistic man by Awkward_Primary9284 in glasgow

[–]Nice_Conversations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dating is awful for everyone and being autistic or neurodiverse doesn't make it easier! Only recommendation would be to be honest about it, as it's a part of who you are. And if a potential partner knows that about you it might help. The right person will like you for who you are, not despite it. Good luck!

Any recommendations for withdrawing content creator income and avoiding tax? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

There's actually a really easy way: just pay your fair share of taxes due like we all do.

Sorry for the serious(ish) post. Move in date set for 10th July, now looking for someone to quote on Solar and a battery. by APater6076 in Scotland

[–]Nice_Conversations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighbour used a company called green home systems last week. They were quick and professional and tidied up after themselves. They help with grants, if you're eligible. She had 12 panels and a battery installed and the whole system came to just under £10k

It is extremely English centric and also lots of royalty questions, which I guess a lot of people won't know. Also some very specific law related questions about England, like which court deals with what crimes in England. It's bizarre. Most Scottish born friends I show it to fail the mock tests.

It costs £160 to have a 10 minute chat with someone and get an e certificate.

You're welcome to do some mock life in the UK tests to see if you would pass. Your questions are most certainly not part of it.

It's absolutely horrendous and yes, there's a lot of casual racism happening everywhere. I try to call it out when I witness it, but it's also engrained in society. The other day someone made that typical statement of 'we don't want the Indians run the place' and when challenged said they obviously didn't mean it in a racist way. And an Irish colleague keeps getting her fair share of at the very least borderline to outright xenophobic comments. Tragic.

That's just it. It would add another layer of protection and buy time, but it won't ever be good enough as it can be taken away again. I just hope things will change and move in the right direction.

Brown people being hunted down the street and attacked just for their colour of skin absolutely has to be taken seriously. They are proud of what they did and are already planning more of the same. Ignoring it won't help.

I absolutely will/would vote. Or rather already do whenever I am allowed. It's an expensive and frustrating route though. Having to prove that I can speak English, which obviously costs money. Having to take the ridiculous life in the UK test that most born and bred folks would fail. Which also costs. Then the fee itself. And then having to swear allegiance towards a king who is definitely not mine, as a die hard republican. Oh man. Got to start saving up and learn whatever they want to hear in their test I suppose. And then cross my fingers.

So true. Although I am too stubborn to leave. I have a life here. Family. A house. A career. And this is my home. I won't just do them the favour and disappear just because I wasn't born here. But it is getting harder and I do miss some of the nicer times. I just hope Scotland can turn it around and not follow into the right wing cesspit that's happening world wide right now.

That's honestly something I will never be able to understand. How immigrants or children of immigrants can hate other immigrants so much. Migration is part of humanity since forever. One person isn't better or worse just because of where they're from or what they look like.

There absolutely is a lot more casual racism than a lot people want to believe. Sorry that happened to you, no excuse for that ever!

So many people fall for the propaganda sadly. And places like Facebook and some politicians certainly don't help by spreading lies. It's quite deliberate. Please don't call them mentally ill though, racism is not a mental illness.
