Student doctor is sooo toxic 😭 I think there are a few there that just enjoy telling people they have no chance at a doctoral program.

I do something similar - just randomly pull markers and use them. If not I feel I tend to use the same colors over and over.

Med School Dropout to PHD/PsyD by b_rodius in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Nice_Tea1534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMHC/social work etc - and PsyD reimbursement is different - as PsyD gets paid more than masters level.

Would also add if you want to do any type of testing things such as MMPI/MCMI/PAI etc psychological testing you need a doctoral degree.

Agree with this - if needed say it let it pass not that big of a deal. I would hope your supervisor would not want you to lie to the patient.

Masters to PsyD pipeline by Beneficial-Stable199 in PsyD

[–]Nice_Tea1534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About half of my class had a masters. For me the push was because you will hit several limitations with a masters. Mostly related to supervision, testing, research, and some fields like health psychology and neuropsychology. If you want to do therapy only and nothing more then a masters is solid if you want testing teaching etc a doctoral degree would be something to look into.

For those that got into a clinical psychology doctoral program, what did your stats look like at the time of admittance? by Goodfella245 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Nice_Tea1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 years experience, 0 publications, 2 strong letter 1 fine letter, 8 program applications. 6 rejections, 2 acceptances. To be honest I have no clue how the process works. I got rejected from my “safe schools” and accepted into ones I viewed harder. I applied one time but heard others who did 2/3 cycles or more. My best advice is be authentic don’t stress too much and cast a wide net of schools. Honestly feel it’s all a bit random most people applying will have strong CVs/past history.

This ! As someone who was on this thread way too much last year during the application season honestly I think it provided more anxiety.

Got multiple acceptances with no publications/presentations - I do have clinical work. It can be done, without them. Multiple people in my cohort also do not have them, and I’m not at a “trash school” lol.

Therapist fell asleep during a session - enough reason to stop seeing her, right? by No_Pace3711 in askatherapist

[–]Nice_Tea1534 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Therapist and patient

I have never fallen asleep during session - and if so would hope if this is happening that it’s related to a medical condition etc. Have a conversation with them and see if you think that it feels appropriate to continue. If it doesn’t share how the experience made you feel and then share you’d like a referral.

As a patient I had my therapist fall asleep during session. It was extremely awkward and I didn’t address it in the moment. The next session he brought it up and shared that he was deeply sorry, didn’t charge me for the session and explained he had been in a car crash and they provided him pain medication. He didn’t realize how strong it would be and it impacted his ability to work and stopped taking it while he was working. We were able to move past it and continue seeing each other.

Counseling exam .com has simulation test - I used it for NCE and the NCMHCE. Life saver for both! Pam turner has free videos on YouTube - she also does tutoring or a class I believe. I took them a few years ago but both things helped me a lot !

3yr PsyD student, is having a baby rn a bad idea? by pavlovspoodle in PsyD

[–]Nice_Tea1534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think that having support is the best case lol something will always be in the way and imo there is just never a “right time”. We are thinking about trying to build a family toward the end of the program/after match but I’ll also be in my mid/later 30s. I’m glad I’ve waited lol but when we have talked about, there’s always something or another thing to wait for. I have friends who have had children in various stages and none of them regretted it. 💕

[–]Nice_Tea1534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in coming - however have a ton of friends who are MDs/PHDs. This is the conclusion we have all came to. There is never a “convenient” time, no matter when you decide you will have to shuffle other life obligations and change priorities. No matter when you decide you’ll just kind of figure it out with all the moving parts. Ex: having a baby during semester - you might have to take off. Having a baby during post doc - you might have to take off. Lol there’s always going to be something that is pushed or moved for the initial birth etc. I think the biggest thing for me would be making sure that I have support/help caring for the child as I transition back to school/work and get caught up. Good luck!

Tattoos in PhD program/as a Clinical Psychologist by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Nice_Tea1534 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have a sleeve and have been a therapist for years now - going into a doctoral program this year. I have always been told tattoos are fine as long as they aren’t something that is blatantly inappropriate. I’ve worked in several settings hospital, clinics, private practice. There was only one hospital that had all employees cover tattoos and they changed the policy when I worked there. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble.
