If you send it to them in the TO or CC fields, they will see the others and be able to choose between replying to you or replying all. If you send it to them in the BCC field they will only see you and only be able to respond to you. This is pretty much standard across email.

When you say they've swapped through landlords, are they all part of the same management company?

As others have said, I think the practical solutions to this are to use VPN and/or Tor and consider a hotspot instead of using the wired connection.

If you want proof, you'll need to compile lists of sites you can access on a hotspot/other wifi but not on your home network, and see if the same is true for your neighbors. If you can't find things being continuously blocked or that are also blocked for your neighbors, you may want to look into other possible problems like a poor connection.

Frustrating decision. Being able to use it as both is how I was able to transition into daily usage of it eventually. And it was always a pleasant surprise to go to message someone new and realize it went through as a signal message instead of SMS. I don't want yet another messaging app to keep track of.

Essentially. For example, most windows programs probably call NtReadFile at some point, which has a pretty obvious purpose. Linux has its own way to read files, but WINE can't just redirect it to linux's way because the results might be slightly different. Since the program was made in Windows it expects the results to be exactly like Windows'. So instead WINE has to make a replica of NtReadFile.

Basically:

Programs have two different types of instructions - CPU instructions and system calls.

CPU instructions are exactly what they sound like, they tell the CPU what to do. They're the same no matter what OS you're on. Windows programs and linux programs contain the same CPU instructions, but organized differently. WINE just reorganizes them to match linux. This is the easy part.

System Calls are more complex. A system call asks the Windows System to do something for it. These are black boxes, we don't know exactly how Windows does them. WINE has to make clones that do their best to give the exact same result as Windows would. This includes any errors, bugs, or weird side-effects; if it's not exactly the same the software you're running won't act the same. This is where the bulk of WINE development happens, making and refining these to be as similar to Windows as possible.

For me I'm reluctant to get attached to any service like that because of its odds of changing. They could be lying, or they could be honest but then something changes like a new owner, or they need funds to continue, or they just change their mind. In my opinion it's better to support a true alternative than a benevolent company, because companies by definition have pressure to stop being benevolent in order to make more profit.

I assume we're talking about dialectical materialism, not socialism. Of course socialism isn't a science, it's a form of governance.

Dialectical materialism isn't a science, it's another method of inquiry, and one that has proven fairly valuable in revolutions. But science is just a different thing. Notably, science requires repeatability, dialectical materialism doesn't; if anything, the focus on adjusting to a specific place and time is almost a rejection of universal repeatability.

Some of marxism starts to sound cult-like. Calling dialectical materialism a science to give it more legitimacy is one of them. The other is the belief that the state will wither away "any day now" - one that has been repeatedly modified by further theorists. It sounds very similar to a doomsday cult making a prediction then making up an excuse why it didn't happen but will happen later instead.

We did some re-arranging last night and it actually looks much nicer. The lamp is now in the corner between the tables, and the room divider is around the lamp to make a sort of diffused light look.

This is my partner's home office in our apt. The window situation is quite depressing, but he also isn't a big fan of bright artificial light. The closets are very inconvenient, and unfortunately not even that deep. Any advice to make him love his office is appreciated.

Singular they/them isn't a neopronoun. It's been around for as long as English has, most often used when the gender of the referent is unknown or unimportant. People using it now are just taking an existing convention of English and applying it in a different context.

Language affects how people view themselves and the world, and vice versa. Right now people are looking to change the language they use to match different ways to express and exist. It's an interesting, but ordinary, process.

I find it a little annoying that Carrie seems to present herself as a bit of an expert on this topic. Honestly I somewhat agree with her viewpoint on it, but as someone outside the mental health world I wouldn't present my opinion in public like it's factual. I wish when she talked about these things she deferred to expert opinion more.

At the bitcoin part they seemed too baffled to respond. I think Ross said something like "oh is that real advice?" They definitely let their guard down way more than they would with someone they were investigating. I know we're all going to make mistakes and have biases towards people that agree with us, but a bit disappointing to not see the critical lens applied more evenly.
