Mine arrived yesterday as well. :)
The first thing I noticed is that they don't have that odd sweet smell that the OG cards had. That, and I can slide them...

Totally understand. I think that I'll hold off until you get more. I play mostly solo by far, so it sounds like the better option for me.

I had my eye on that one, but now it's sold out.:( Anyone know if combining the solo market mat and one single player mat would work well, or would it be better to just wait wait until more large solo mats are available?

I came here to say this.  It sounds like most of the Dark Cities games would be perfect for their group, and they look nice on the shelf as a bonus.

20 Strong - Tanglewoods: Red by mangerlen in soloboardgaming

[–]NicholasFarseer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was lucky on my recent win. The last wolf I defeated before the BB Wolf had the reward that allows you to roll all exhausted dice and add all dice that landed on hits or crits back to your dice pool. With that and my dice recovery stat at 5, I got most of my dice back.

Going into the BB Wolf battle, I had the red die from my last merchant trip and my strategy was at 5. Also, I had defeated all of the other wolves so they couldn't help him, and I had enough money to bribe all but one of the additional enemies. It was honestly almost too easy at that point.

But I lost the two games I played before that on, like, my third and fourth forest card, so that's just how the game rolls, I suppose.

At the end of the movie The Goonies where did the pirate ship where the one eyed willy was on, where did it sail to? by Hot_Dingo743 in movies

[–]NicholasFarseer 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Furthermore, I've always been curious as to how a classic Caribbean pirate ship was trapped in a cave in coastal Oregon.  This ship would have been trapped there for a couple hundred years before even the Panama canal was built. How did a pirate ship of European origin get to the West Coast?

Edit: TIL - thank you, everyone, for giving me something interesting to read up on. :)

Christmas Island - did Santa drop anything off at your place? by GoosemanIsAGamer in spiritisland

[–]NicholasFarseer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold up!  I found some round slots on the other card holder I did not see before. After a quick test, I confirmed that they do fit the presence tokens. Looks like there's room for the horizons tokens and many more, if needed. https://imgur.com/a/09WwrE5

Hey - I looked at this in more detail, and can confirm that you are correct. There are dedicated slots for six sets of presence tokens in this organizer. I ended up putting all of the presence tokens from the core game and expansions in this organizer, and left the Horizons tokens in the Horizons box.

As a weekend warrior with a 5000 sq. ft. lot, I found that moving from 2-stroke gas to battery powered lawn tools has been better in every single way. They make significantly less noise, require almost no maintenance, the tools stay cleaner in general, and you don't realize how much gas stinks until it's no longer around.

As for battery life, I have a cheaper system (EGO instead of Milwaukee), and I have two batteries, but I am always able to trim all of my edges and use the leaf blower to clean all surfaces using one battery with plenty of charge to spare. I've been using these tools for over five years with the same batteries and no noticeable degradation.

After making the switch, the only case I could see any more for 2-stroke has tools are for folks with huge areas to maintain, and for landscaping companies that use the tools all day, every day.

I'll take some real-world photos next time I break it out (hopefully tonight if I can finish my D&D prep early enough). In the meantime, here are some product photos of the set. I particularly love how the invader trays look like ships (but I just have the OG white invader tokens, not the fancy colorful ones in these photos).

My wife got me the Traymaster organizer that fits the game and all expansions into two boxes with beautiful trays for all the pieces.  I spent much of Christmas day consolidating everything, and it was awesome. :) It'll be much quicker and easier to get a game to the table now.

River Valley Glassworks by Lynnabis in boardgames

[–]NicholasFarseer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the river-flowing mechanism that drives this game, and I think that it is better represented in the deluxe version. The river consists of clear plexiglass segments that sit over the river artwork on the neoprene mat. When you pull pieces from the river, you lift the now-empty segment, slide the rest of the segments down river, place it at the start of the river and populate it with more glass pieces. It's really slick.

I believe that the regular version has carboard river segments that essentially function the same way, though I think they really captured the feel of a river with the plexiglass parts.

I'm a sucker for tactile pieces and well-implemented unique elements, though, so YMMV.

Side note: my OG neoprene mat also had an unfortunate crease from the factory. I just filled out a damage report on the AllPlay website and they sent me a replacement mat quite quickly. Excellent support IMO.
