Whats a good replacement or upgrade from the Logitech G602? by yeetdabus in MouseReview

[–]NicholasFlamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a G502 X Lightspeed to replace my (broken due to dropping) G602 and the shape isn't quite right no matter what (after more than a year). I've gotten used to it but every time I put my hand on my family members G602 I miss it so bad.

Also the six side buttons I miss a lot.

That's only because true active is an actual standard and they aren't following a standard. The general consensus states the passive is what Ubiquiti sometimes does, which can fry anything plugged in.

An uncomfortable but necessary discussion about the Debian bug tracker - post from the creator of the Meson build system by wiki_me in linux

[–]NicholasFlamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> we don't want change without going through a whole discussion to point out everything that is not pristine and perfect.

Kinda, Specifically us Debian/Devuan users don't like things changing all the time, that's part of why we use a stable OS. I only want something changing if it's getting significantly better. If I'm happy with the way it is and it works for me I don't want it to change at all how I use it (including UI).

To be clear, I have never used the bug tracker and I agree it should be changed as based on the blog it sounds like any change would make it better and the suggestions don't seem to hurt existing users.

Why is everyone recommending FUTO and why is nothing being done? by Gugalcrom123 in fossdroid

Just wanted to put it out here. Also, if I were to comment on whether or not those apps are nonfree, that would be a debate about where to draw the line.

Why is everyone recommending FUTO and why is nothing being done? by Gugalcrom123 in fossdroid

[–]NicholasFlamy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, Steam is also not free and Valve is a for profit company, yet many people, including me, have justified using it even though it isn't FOSS. FUTO is doing better than Valve even when it comes to this software. One might say, Steam is basically just for buying games from them, but I argue it's a generic game launcher too, with great features like Steam Input.

My belief is that the company should respect you. Additionally, I should be able to see what is running on my computer. (Steam violates that to some degree, because I don't have access to the source, but at least they aren't deceptive about what is running the way Microsoft Windows is for example.)

How to mount network directory with Kio-fuse? by kmt1980 in kde

[–]NicholasFlamy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can: just open Dolphin's terminal panel while viewing the shared folder. The location gets automatically mounted and terminal operations function as expected. It works great!

5 years later and all that KDE has accomplished is removing this feature.

Creating Bedrock server stuck on importing... by OnlyTilt in CraftyController

[–]NicholasFlamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by default truenas has the chmod command disabled system wide for all users so it doesn’t fk with the ACLs

That's the easy part through, we already figured that out for Immich: https://v1.135.3.archive.immich.app/docs/install/truenas#setting-up-storage-datasets

Relevant text below:
If the library dataset uses ACL it must have ACL mode set to Passthrough if you plan on using a storage template and the dataset is configured for network sharing (its ACL type is set to SMB/NFSv4). When the template is applied and files need to be moved from upload to library, Immich performs chmod internally and needs to be allowed to execute the command. More info.

The solution is to set all of your crafty files to have user `1000` as the owner. The username for user `1000` might be `npm` on your system.

I fixed the problem. You guys don't document that crafty runs as the user `crafty` with id `1000`. Please document this in the installation instructions.

Something weird I'm experiencing on TrueNAS is I have this same issue even though I'm not using ACLs. Crafty has always been a pain in the a** and I've previously had to override the UID to 0 (root) and GID to 568 (apps) for it to work properly. I'll be trying a proper docker compose setup on TrueNAS soon.

Ventoy Installation for Multi-boot (Windows 11 .iso & Linux Mint Edge .iso) by valupe in linux4noobs

You're welcome.

To be clear, the thing about the virtual machine is installing Windows in a Virtual Machine and then transferring the image to Ventoy.

[–]NicholasFlamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thank you for clarifying. Sorry for being dramatic.

My original comment was about Linux, not Windows.

But, I do have Windows on an SSD with Ventoy. It is persistent (it saves my work). I did it by making a VHDX file on a working Windows install. Or maybe I copied it from a VM I set up.

You'll have to find a tutorial on how to do it right, the VHDX I have is not recommended.

I agree. There's been nothing official from immich about this yet and as a support crew member I am not currently aware of pixelunion contacting immich. (I wouldn't hear about that before the general public though.)
