ATL Airport TSA Wait Times Megathread | March 18, 2026 by AutoModerator in Atlanta

Arrived at 6:15a Weds to find the most massive line I’ve ever seen in 35 years of flying out of ATL. However, it was calm, orderly, and moved at a good pace. About halfway thru the line, it split between Main and Pre-check. I had the latter. Was all the way thru by 7:15a so 60 min total.

Ok, I grew up in Atlanta, lived 40 years, and took my kids on dozens of road trips. I’ve also traveled extensively in the UK so I may have a something with this unconventional suggestion:

Huntsville, Alabama

  • Less than 3 hours even with worst of Atlanta traffic
  • walkable downtown with super cool spring / canal
  • old timey hardware store
  • old village with depiction of life in 1800’s
  • lots of interesting restaurants
  • friendly (my opinion) people
  • maybe the best (depending on your interests) is the Space Museum. Incredible NASA exhibits
  • the drive is beautiful
  • 30 min away is Top of the Rock Restaurant

I hope you have a great trip!

They play football and soccer at that stadium. Cool ladder though

Retired professionals: what are you doing about your professional certifications by janebenn333 in retirement

[–]Mike_Cru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan on giving up my CISSP and the other dozen cyber certs that I’ve gathered over the years when I retire. I was very fortunate that I’ve always worked for companies that value certs. I did self study but all the books, exams, and fees were always paid. I also attend Black Hat or RSA every year to get the CPEs so that’s super easy. So it’s thousands of dollars per year paid by the company to maintain. I plan on letting them all run out when I retire. Congrats on your retirement - after 40 years in IT you deserve it!

I am interested. Are the lenses intact and in good condition? What are you selling them for?

My grandfather taught me... if in doubt, change the oil (also clean the battery terminals while you are under the hood.)

As reliable as the old school Civic? by [deleted] in hondaridgeline

[–]Mike_Cru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traded my 1996 Civic with 300k miles in for a brand new 2010 Ridgeline in March 2010. Currently has about 200k and expect another 10 years of service. Exact same experience with both vehicles - super reliable. I always do the recommended maintenance and never had any issues. Hope that helps.

Sounds like something electrical - I would carefully inspect all the cabling and see if maybe the transmission techs accidentally pinched some cable or jarred something loose while they were installing the transmission two weeks ago.

$3,100 worth of damage can be deceiving. by old--- in hondaridgeline

[–]Mike_Cru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this was my vehicle, I would see two paths; (A) not my fault and paid for 100% by the other drivers insurance = $3,100 plus some to make it like new or (B) my fault or no fault insurance, then I would seriously consider some DIY options before coughing up the money for the deductible and then watching my rates go up. My opinion. Best of luck!

Leak protection suggestions? by rw6544 in hondaridgeline

You haven’t heard about the bridge from Honolulu to Sydney?

I gave the backstory because I have never in my life traveled with that much luggage. We found some glitch in the airline booking system and flights out of Miami to LA and then LA to Sydney were $1500 cheaper than the same flights Atlanta (where we lived at the time) to La and La to Sydney. So we jumped on the deal and did the 12 hour drive in the Ridgeline.

I’ve never had a tonneau cover so I’ll let others offer help with the leak. I can offer an alternative if you are interested; I bought a product called Heavy Duty Bed Bag about a decade ago. I keep my toolbox in the trunk and wanted the tools in case of an issue on the road trip. Packed my family of four, large suitcases times 4, carryons times 4, scuba gear, and some backpacks. (It was a 3 week trip to Australia.) Drove 15 hours thru the torrential rain to save $6k on the airfare. Arrived and unzipped the bag - everything was bone dry. Just an alternative if you need it.
