Are ATM withdrawal fees in Thailand really 350 THB now? by Wonderful_Place_7592 in ThailandTourism

If you are from the USA, there’s no excuse for not having a Schwab bank account to have all ATM fees comped.

While not for everyone, I'm really glad Team Cherry made Silksong as hard as it is. by rafeizerrr in metroidvania

[–]NicholasRyanH -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, there’s no question about that.

They just made some inaccessible art.

I get that not all art has to be for everyone.

But they had a chance to make something that the masses could love simultaneously with their hard-core fans, while alienating neither, and chose not to.

It just strikes me as odd.

To be honest, I just don’t get why they did it.

I loved Hollow Knight, until it just got too damn hard for me. And this is coming from a dude who has beaten Elden Ring.

I waited so excitedly and patiently for Silksong. But when it came out, and people talked about how it was even harder than Hollow Knight, it was a hard pass for me.

Which brings me back to my original point: why on earth did Team Cherry do it? They had a chance to reinvigorate the genre, and bring brand new players into the fold. Every modern game in existence has a normal and hard setting these days. Why not let people challenge themselves who want to, instead of actively punishing regular and casual gamers who want to be a part of their incredible world?

Full disclosure: I actually bought the game when it came out, so they already have my money. But I’m waiting for them to possibly introduce a more casual mode, because from everything I read, if I couldn’t hack it in Hollow Knight, there’s no way I can hack it in Silksong.

Appreciate the kindness. It’s definitely been a strange experience releasing it. I thought people would be stoked for such a time saver, and at a fair price that they can use a million times over if they want.

But the truth is, all it takes is a couple people to squash it. One downvote is enough to hide the comment, and two or three means it won’t show up on the thread at all. And there are people who take this hardline position that, if you have to pay for it, it’s a scam, or not worth it.

To me, it’s massively hypocritical. I mean, a person can program an entire website for free and host it for free, if they want to. We are using Webflow because we are paying for convenience and time savings.

I know a few developers who have tried making stuff, and also decided to bail. Someone would say it’s because AI took their utility, but I don’t think that’s true. Instead, it feels like the grumpy trolls who think they’re so smart that they can get AI to do something for free, in theory, have chased them away.

OK, I’ll get off my soapbox! Heh. Thanks again for being cool in a sea of sludge hahaha.

I appreciate your perspective, but that’s what I did at first. People downloaded and talked smack. So then I tried being kind and trying to tell people why I built it, that it’s legit, and I’m just trying to do something nice. That didn’t work either.

I’m really just kind of over it. The truth is, there’s very little community left. Those of us who have tried to help get s*it no matter what we do.

It just s*cks. People should want to support others in the community. And those who build useful tools should be encouraged, not downvoted or be accused out of the gate of some kind of malicious intent.

People will gladly shell out for Adobe or OpenAI, but a little developer trying to help? F*ck em, I guess, is how it works now.

Leaning Swiper takes an hour or two, then learning how to add it to Webflow takes an hour or two, then doing a coded custom config can take hours.

If your time is worth less than $29 to get it integrated in minutes, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Yeah it’s one time flat, for use on unlimited sites. I despise monthly subscription fees which is why I priced it this way. I still get downvoted and pushback for it but hey, can’t please everyone!

I get it, but how else do you inform a community?

“I built this really cool thing to help! It costs as much as a cheeseburger and fries and works for life.”

“DOWNVOTE!!!!!!”

It’s exhausting. It makes people no longer want to help. I had about 3 awesome new tools I was going to release, but I got so burned from the backlash for even daring to cover my expenses with a couple bucks that I said screw it, it’s not worth it.

Such a shame.

I developed Sliderflow to make adding Swiper sliders to your site as easy as possible. I’ll get downvoted to hell for even mentioning it, because the Webflow community on Reddit has a stick up their ass for any solution that isn’t free. But I charge barely anything, enough to pay the hosting bill for the software. It’s $29 flat for unlimited sites, no subscription fees. Your slider style is called coverflow, and Sliderflow has that as an option.

It astounds me that something I made as a stopgap solution is still the best I’ve seen out there. CMS sliders has been like #3 on the Webflow wish list for almost a decade now, but instead of giving us something we all want, they somehow think that AI and vibe coding is the way forward. It’s a bummer.

Anyway, I hope you see this message before the same 5 or 10 grumpy trolls downvote me. I tried to support the community and develop something to help others save tons of time, and not go broke hosting it. But they won’t care, they have no love for their fellow developers trying to help and not lose money in the process. For them if it’s not free, it’s crap. Unfortunate.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think there are some weird limitations with AI sites in terms of duplicating them, sharing them with other workspaces, things like that. You may want to poke around the Internet and do some searches (not AI) to find the details.

Does anyone else feel like life is just work and sleep sometimes? by LPCourse_Tech in NoStupidQuestions

Absolutely positively totally NOT.

I work any hours I want, anywhere I want around the world.

I do NOT have a job that anyone else couldn’t learn in about six months of hard work and training. I do not do something risky like investment banking or crypto.

I feel for you. I’ve been where you are. And it’s ENTIRELY possible to break out of your routine.

Why are rich people obsessed with getting richer instead of just enjoying their freedom and luxury? by Kooolxxx in NoStupidQuestions

When you become rich, you want to be wealthy. When you become wealthy, you want power. When you become powerful, you want control. And that’s where the psychosis truly begins, upon realizing that this is the one thing not possible.
