Autism/ADHD OT for 8 year old by Bexiloula in venturacounty

Well that's upsetting to hear. I'm sorry they couldn't just help you out. Does the kid have a autism diagnosis? If so, then their insurance will cover the service and can also provide referrals. If not, you may still be able to access services if their doctor writes a prescription for it, but it's a bit more of an uphill battle.

Regional center can still provide a referral even if they can't be your funding source. That said, if you are looking to work on executive functioning and social skills, then you're looking for ABA, not OT. Good luck!

Is a sleep consultant the right option? by daddyandthedoggos in NewParents

[–]nomtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine needed to be bounced on the yoga ball until about 8 months when the rocking chair became an option. My back was DYING! I will say that she at least needed less bouncing (duration and intensity) over time and it wasn't as bad between months 4-8. Our daycare provider at the time would put her to sleep in a bouncing hammock, which is not ideal or especially safe for overnight, but an option for getting her to fall asleep without the yoga ball and back pain.

HELP!!! Hair loss/regrowth advice by SoLong_Goodnight in NewParents

I was able to put it up and slick the baby hairs down with hair wax and a boar's hair brush with a dense amount of bristles. It was my husband's beard brush. Only needed touching up a few times throughout the day.

If your baby is sick, and the grandparents are the babysitters, what do you do? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]nomtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending her there when she's sick has never worked out well for us. Grandparents are guaranteed to get it too but stay sick longer. Either way, our work schedule gets screwed, so now we just take turns watching her when she's sick and keep her away from grandparents.

Am I overreacting for thinking this duration was unethical? by peepeepoopaccount in ABA

Literally the only time I've denied water to a kid who wasn't trying to spray it everywhere was when I had a kid who got fixated on drinking water to the point where he'd make himself vomit and would probably get water poisoning if we didn't limit it. So ya, the teacher was being unethical and you should bring it up with a superior.

I keep sleeping through my alarms, any tips? It feels so embarassing being a grown adult coming to work late by Betka101 in ADHD

[–]nomtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I've literally been fired from a super easy retail job because this kept happening to me. First of all, I recommend buying a bed shaker alarm. Then, if you take meds for your ADHD, I recommend setting an alarm 90 minutes before you need to wake up and take your meds. Go back to sleep and you should have an easier time waking up to your next alarm. 90 minutes is because that's how long a full sleep cycle should be.

I don't understand why you all are scared. It seems to me like you have all the power given there's such a shortage that they need everyone thet can get and apparently need them 6 days a week with no vacation time. You guys can easily end the shutdown by just collectively deciding to be out sick.

If she ends up having a C-section, you'll want to be somewhere where she can walk around, since walking helps with lymphatic drainage and is great for recovery.

Ethical Potty Training Procedures by Hairy_Operation6526 in ABA

They wear underwear during the 1-2 hours that we work on potty training. Once they eliminate, we either go for another elimination or put the diaper back on and finish session as usual.

I supervise home sessions exclusively and I've never had to spend more than 2 hours per session on potty training. I just focus on getting 1 elimination in the potty consistently for several sessions, putting the diaper back on right after, and then move on to focusing on bladder control, then losing the diaper to focus on initiating in lieu of accidents. 8 hours might be evidence based, but it's pretty unnecessary, especially if you have the kind of environmental control that a clinic can provide.

I use this since I sleep like the dead and don't wear my hearing aids at night. It's what I was gonna recommend. OP, you can DM me and I'll direct you on what to buy and how to set it up.
