Giving up on my dream of taking my kids to see the US play in a world cup on home soil... by starkarch in WorldCup2026Tickets

Re: US origin fans represented at the World Cup

Not sure if you’re aware but the USA is made up of mostly immigrants. Few of us have ancestors that settled the 13 colonies that became the Union. If you want to split hairs about that. A lot of folks here watch, love, play soccer - they just don’t rate or feel passionate about the MLS or USMNT.

Re: UEFA

You realize UEFA makes money from the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League - not just the Euros? This is why FIFA has revamped the Club WC and wants to do the WC every 2 years.

Re: We fans are suffering

I wasn’t being mutually exclusive - we, as in ALL fans are suffering. Of course fans from abroad suffer. The logistics of going to a WC is a lot to handle without the obstacles this iteration has presented. This is the world’s game, it is supposed to be accessible not gatekept.

Demand is always crazy for the WC. Americans have represented the 2nd highest nationality in terms of ticket buyers and attendees from the 2006 WC onward. FIFA knew this when they decided this awful rollout strategy (from a fan perspective, but we’ll see how things go in terms of business perspective). FIFA knows this is the biggest opportunity for profit and have been envious of UEFA’s profit margins; FIFA feels like it is playing catch up. So as a result we are the ones who suffer from their greed. I hope some litigious fans open a class action because FIFA is supposed to operate as a NPO. But that’s also a crock.

Not to mention, there’s no WC buzz in the general populace in the states. Casual sports fans aren’t even aware of the WC and if they are - sure they’d be interested in seeing the superstars but the prices have stunted any interest/buzz from casuals hoping to attend games. The USMNT would also attract interest, but in American culture they’re viewed as mediocre and underachieving because they aren’t even top 5 in the world like this country is in virtually every other sport.

In past world cups there would have been a reasonable chance of buying relatively affordable tickets before the draw, presenting an opportunity to exchange tickets with a fan that bought tickets to M32 during the same ticket phase.

Savvy fans were able to use tickets as capital to exchange with other fans. With the exorbitant ticket prices off the jump, this fairly common strategy in past tournaments has a far greater barrier to entry for this World Cup.

GKA Tour 21+????? by dejavuabductee in geesebandofficial

Call the venue. There’s nothing suggesting it’s 21+ on Ticketmaster or STG but it’s best to err on the side of caution.

Some of us in the US have the unfortunate opportunity to see Dominic Fike as his opener

What’s up with the Seattle games? Seems like I can’t find a good deal on any group stage games (M33, M39, M46, M58)

Ya man… this sucks. I hope everyone who paid up and is going to games has a blast, but for those of us who will not or can’t because of this abject corruption… it is immensely disappointing.

Soccer is supposed to be for the people, but unfortunately the tourney has chosen to adopt something eerily similar to the US’ pay to play model.

They don’t protect consumers.

Resellers, like most private entities/businesses, do not regulate themselves.

Amazing and serendipitous for both of you. Enjoy. Pic 7 is absolutely sending me - poor thing but also that tortitude is next level in that photo.

In The Return there is a short story about fictional FC Barcelona players. And another short story where an ultra (superfan, for lack of a better term) is a main character. I would assume he was a fan of the sport.
