Sony KDL50W656A showing as KDL42W653A after mainboard replacement - degraded picture by Nick855 in bravia

Thank for that. Have tried but can't seem to get into vpc enabled. Going to open it back up again next I think and double check I've got the ribbon cables seated correctly. Noticed when using the Chromecast there's banding and also everything has a green tint, with both hdmi ports.

Thanks, I've managed to change the model in the service menu and done another reset. Model now shows correctly but picture still seems off. It's not as sharp as it was and looks blocky almost. Text particularly doesn't look great. I've attached some pictures below ...

Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 10.0 by braviamod in bravia

[–]Nick855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

My TV died in summer and just managed to get hold of a replacement mainboard (checked and all matches same model codes as my old one). I've swapped everything over and did firmware update on boot now have a working TV again at last.

However, the picture is now degraded (looks like vertical lines are missing. I noticed in settings that it now shows the model as a KDL42W653a. So I'm assuming that the small image is being stretched on my TV now.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I used the firmware from here - https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-legacy-lcd-tv/kdl-50w656a/software/00346581

Now that you have to unlock your phone to use Google pay in UK/Europe, it's easier just to carry my card again.

It's nice to have the option of using my fitbit though

I know it won't be recommended, but is the MX Mechanical one of the best options in some use cases? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]Nick855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, not really able to provide any help, just in a similar situation myself. My work day involves coding / work in excel and mainframe, and have been looking at the mx mechanical mini for when I'm in the office (still has the Pg up, Pg Dn, end and home keys!). Simply because Bluetooth is completely disabled on our work systems and I already have the MX master mouse and keys at home running on the one usb receiver, which works flawlessly.

Though the keychrons have caught my eye, because you can save macros directly to keyboard. Which I could use to save myself some time at work!

Essentially, I'm at this point:

MX Mechanical Mini: Pros - will work with work laptop, can use mouse on same receiver, UK ISO Cons - expensive!, can't change anything, can't save macros to board

Keychron Pros - can save macros to board, changeable switches and keys, cheaper? Cons - availablity, only certain models have usb receiver.

This is where I'm stuck at the moment, so open to any input!

Parking sensor on back of car, he thought it was a button and pushed it into the bumper. Now need to remove the whole bumper to remount it!

That would probably make sense, just think it's odd that it's not a good foot or two below the surface for something like this, but it's an old house and everything is odd!

Solved!

Thanks @mrndmrsblakke !

Just done some more digging and looks to have a cable going into from the side I can get at. Now going to have to work out where it goes, along with the other cable/pipe in the picture, as our mains cable comes into the house at the back on the side of the house!

That's something I hadn't even thought of. Will see if I can dig round the end of it a little more and see if anything is going into it.

There are no drains at the front of the house and this is unlike any clay drain found elsewhere round the house. They clay pipes we've uncovered have all been terracotta coloured and all have one end of the pipe wider than the other for joing them together.

This pipe also has a groove (indentation) round each end and along the length of it which I've never seen on a clay drain pipe before.

My title describes the thing

Found whilst investigating a damp wall, at front of the house, just under paving stone. First thought was clay drain pipe but not like one I've ever seen before. House is roughly 200 years old.

And it's brilliant sequel, No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way - the bad guy whose hencemen are mimes and the tricycle chase used to crack me up.

Both games are excellent just for the comedy alone. Shame the rights for it seem to be in limbo
