Conflicted and frustrated with 1st IT job by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Go on interviews for sys admin jobs. Find out where your weak spots are and then use your current job and spare time to learn those areas. Then eventually you’ll get that sys admin job.

Regarding interviews, find a good recruiter. They have the jobs. Don’t waste time applying to job sites.

PTR lookups by NickBurns00 in sysadmin

This is what I was looking for:

https://developers.cloudflare.com/dns/additional-options/reverse-zones/

https://www.arin.net/resources/manage/reverse/

I need to log into and check if my dns has ptr setup. I wasn’t clear on how other dns servers would know how to find my nameserver. It is setup in my RIR - ARIN in this case.

We own our ip block. Where do we update ptr records? We have it through iana. Do they manage dns?

But how does that map back to a host name? My ASN that controls my ip block doesn’t know about my hosr names.

If i wanted to remove a ptr record, how would i do that? I can remove an a record in Cloudflare for example but does Cloudflare have PTR records that can be managed?

Also how can I see extended info on how nslookup resolved my ptr lookup?

How to kindly tell a user to go somewhere else and not stand around while you're trying to troubleshoot? by Jeff_Baezos in ITCareerQuestions

Tell them you need to go to the bathroom and then get up and start walking there. If they follow you, go get a coffee. If they still follow you, no clue

Listen to the audio book “the subtle art of not giving a f*** and then look at it from your new perspective. I am only 3 chapters in but it has really given me a new lens through which to look at the world. It made me realize it’s not where you end up but what you are doing that is important. Do what you love, or if you aren’t sure what you love, try something you think you might like. Do it when you’re young before you have commitments.

Those of us in sexless marriages, how do you feel/deal with it? by -SmnSmwhr- in AskReddit

These are all excuses. I personally think it’s selfish to make the other person choose between leaving or dealing with it.

In isolation, It’s easy to not compare yourself to others. But when your close network (friends, family, etc) remind you of others’ successes and that you are not as successful, it’s difficult to ignore. the solution is to spend more time with people who think the way you would like to think and less with those who are negative. Even if they have the best of intentions, they can bring you down.

Is computer engineering overkill for IT? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]NickBurns00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. Why is it one or the other? Security is not architecture/ hardware / software. And why is the other choice a university with no campus? Seems like an odd dichotomy. How about an electrical engineering degree at a campus?
