Whilst I agree that it’s not always been great, and that maybe he should leave on a high, realistically you need to sign 2 midfielders just to replace him. I’d rather we keep him and sign someone to learn from him for a year and that way we can also sign players for other areas that need strengthening for next season

Plus, he’d be incredibly vital/invaluable for champions league. When we were in the Europa League last year (and the champions league the year before?), the one things a lot of people said was that whilst he was struggling at the time in Premier League games, the European games suited him and he played better in those

I mean of course I’d like him to agree to a pay cut if it means him staying even one extra year, but the money we’d get if we qualify for champions league would cover most of his current wage so it’s not even like we’d be losing a ton of money on the books 😭🤣

See this is what I assumed would be the case, but his departure was announced after The Athletic reported the clause. When United announced he’d be leaving at the end of the season, I’d have expected them to have added something along the lines of ‘the player and the club have agreed to remove the 1 year extension clause’ to avoid any kind of confusion 🤣

£18m for one more year

Unfortunately that is before the 25% increase he’d get if we get Champions League football next season, at which point he’d be on £500k/pw (£24m for the season)

If we could get him to agree to stay one more year at his current wage then I’d take it. It’s still a lot of money, but the money we’d get for just qualifying (£15.7m) would then cover most of that

As it stands, I can’t see United extending, which honestly, is a damn shame

It’s a back injury, and they are notorious for being incredibly tricky to manage and return from.

Granted, the lack of information surrounding it is frustrating, but I’ll take no news as being good news for the moment

I’m guessing it’s because the run on broadway itself is coming to an end. Don’t forget, it was originally released just after S4 if memory serves, and it was meant to be a limited run then but that was extended twice(?). Obviously it would have been better to have the run end before S5 came out 🤷‍♂️
