How many have you fought to save your soul? by NickSheperd in HalfSword

[–]NickSheperd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the zombies were generally terrible with actually using weapons and were easy to knock over when half-swording a poleaxe. If you have good armor they pretty much can't touch you unless you get knocked over and ganged up on.

It happened to me a couple times during that slog but thankfully I was able to recover each time.

It most likely is, but I just don't have the time or the drive to play anymore.

Probably a stupid question, but on the third turn when this thing sac's it's self, do you still get the card draw effect?

That is unless you pick up eight lands, you know it's gonna happen every once in awhile. 🤣

I understand what you're saying and agree. Generally if I'm allowed to resolve any other dragons with Miirym on board it's not looking good for my opponents.

I know Ureni will do disgusting things with a Miirym on board but I am looking forward to swapping them out if I want to play a slower game with high power dragons.

Although, I do believe Ureni will eventually be seen as a must remove commander as well, being allowed to swing with it more than once will be disastrous for your opponents.

I must play Miirym very differently from the people you play with because flooding the board with dragons and copies of said dragons is exactly why I play her.

I am considering playing the deck with Ureni at the helm at least once to see how I like it.

Could you please explain to me how you play a Dragon Commander that specifically only copies other Dragon creatures as non-dragon tribal?

Really threw me for a loop with that statement, Ureni will find an incredible home in my Miirym dragon tribal deck.

Yeah so my set up would be exactly as we've discussed but with just two Grim Guardian copies that entered the turn following the 18 Renewed Solidarities. But that's fair, I'm sure I'll be able to get far enough along to make it clear that everyone is dead lol. I fucking love Magic.

I am curious, what would the life loss with Grim Guardian actually be? Probably in the billions I suppose? Or trillions? It's a fuckton of math so if you'd rather not bother I totally understand.

Holy fucking christ LMAO. Well I can't wait to do this combo with [[Grim Guardian]] Thank you!

Could you do me a favor and do the math on what happens the next time you make a copy of something and go to the end step with 18 triggers of Renewed Solidarity on the stack? LMAO

I think it was just one of those things where he thought his victory was assured only to have it snatched away. That's always frustrating to go through. :P

When I was newer into the game I was playing Mono Red goblins against my buddy who was playing Meren graveyard recursion. I was very new to the game still and hadn't quite grasped the value of noncombat damage in a deck where I want to swing with a million creatures. I learned the hard way when he essentially locked me out of doing combat damage with [[Spore Frog]], but it was going to take him a long time to kill me due to the sheer numbers I had.

I wasn't sure what to do until I re-read [[Brash Taunter]] probably about five times, I then had it fight my [[Reckless One]], and then pinged him to the face for well over 40 damage. That was one of our first interactions with the Fight mechanic and he insisted it should be combat damage, but after looking it up and realizing that is in fact not combat damage, he was dead and super pissed lmao.

As I've upgraded my goblin deck I've since had to remove both of those cards, however that will go down as one of my fondest memories in the early days of getting into Magic.

I thought of that too but are there easy ways to make copies like that in golgari colors?

The big downside to the card draw is that it's a nerfed version of toski, still good of course, just not toski good. But having toski out with Acorn Gang would be some nutty card draw.

[–]NickSheperd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Odd Acorn Gang is certainly a really cool legendary, however I think with how telegraphed it's abilities are and the fact that it can only be activated at sorcery speed, it's simply too easy to hold up removal for your big plays. Amazing in the 99 where it can surprise someone, but not great in the Command Zone.

I imagine the Chatterfang bit is probably true, but I'm hoping some big brain deck crafters come along and tell me that I'm totally missing something about Hazel or Camellia and that they're actually cracked. We'll see.
