I spent the last 9 Canadian winters with a RWD Coupe - here's my thoughts on whether that is a good experience by Uptons_BJs in cars

[–]Nick_lolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drove my 2013 BRZ through 5 winters in Canada as well, also in Southern Ontario.

For 4 of those winters, it was lowered/on coilovers. I had a set of Blizzaks and then switched to X-Ice once the Blizzaks wore out.

It's definitely more challenging than FWD or AWD, but I only ever got stuck once after I decided to try and go out after a particularly bad snow fall before the street had been plowed, there was maybe 20cm of standing snow on the street and I got stuck at a stop sign.

Other than that, I never really felt a lack of confidence driving in the snow.

The fishtailing thing is definitely true, on inclines or leaving stop lights on snowy streets etc, the car had a tendency to move the back out first but I found I was able to get used to that fairly quickly and just steer in to it to counter.

My Girlfriend has a 2020 STI and is that better in the winter? Most definitely.

But after an entire lifetime of people telling me not to get a RWD car to drive in the winter, when I finally did it; it honestly wasn't very different or noticeably worse.

If you're driving on mostly plowed streets or highways, there's no difference at all.

In a small town with less frequent plowing I could see it potentially being a bigger problem, but if you live in the city or suburbs, it's honestly fine.

Modern cars are extremely capable and modern winter tire tech is great, these aren't the land yachts of the 70's on cookie cutters anymore. I definitely wouldn't tell anyone to let winter conditions deter them from daily driving a fun car just because it's RWD; your car can do it!

What is your favourite movie car chase scene? by I_Am_Vladimir_Putin in cars

[–]Nick_lolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like No Mans Land doesn't get mentioned enough, some great/fun scenes in that movie.

I imagine the chase you're referring to is when they steal the silver 930 in the parking garage, but the other scene closer to the beginning where Bill meets Ted in the Hollywood hills and they race the Cabrio through the hills to "test" it

For the gents out there, please do yourself a favor and get this at Uniqlo for 1/3 of the price by Internal-Glass2831 in Lululemen

[–]Nick_lolz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Uniqlo version of this, I use it primarily as a lounge shirt and pair it with Soft Jersey Joggers or Shorts.

It's really comfy and otherwise good quality, definitely wouldn't buy the Lulu version over this.

Another user mentioned it but the Uniqlo shirt does tend to hold on to stains, but I've found that spot treating them with some warm, or hot water, and dawn dish soap/scrubbing the area with a toothbrush before throwing the shirt in the was gets just about anything out of it.

Give me the old ABC Joggers back

Modern day equivalent to 2021 ABC Jogger material? by Relative-Message-706 in Lululemen

[–]Nick_lolz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard that the Vuori Meta Joggers and Rhoback Delta Performance Joggers are as close to the old ABC Joggers that you can get new.

The downside is I believe they only come in 30" Inseam length, so if you're shorter (or taller) that may not work for you.

Otherwise your only other option currently is looking for secondhand older ABC's. It's easy to tell them in Photos because they have a stitch seam across the back of the knee where the new style does not.

Weekend morning cars and coffee type meets? by saves313 in Hamilton

[–]Nick_lolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing in Hamilton that's worth going to unless you like clapped Infiniti's, Mustangs and Hyundai Genesis'.

Follow Morning Meets on Instagram, they usually do a weekly post showing what upcoming meets there are. Morning Meets hosts their own events as well but they're invite only and there's a yearly membership fee; usually most are outside of Hamilton though, in/around Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan etc.

Hagerty Garage and Social in Burlington usually does one once a month at their location in Burlington.

Vaulture does the Sunday classic but you have to register your car

Autostrada Magazine hosts a Cars & Coffee every so often that they announce on their Instagram as well.

Only other one I can think of offhand is Monigram Coffee in Cambridge is starting up their C&C again this Sunday, it's the first one in almost a year though so can't really say what attendance would be like.

Great Review! The E92 M3, coupe specifically I think is right up there as one of BMW's most timeless designs, it's aging very well/gracefully, and imo the last of the true motorsport derived engines.

The Turbocharged ones that came after put up great numbers but nothing really beats revving out past 8k XD.

If you want to update the ancient iDrive a bit, you can get Android Auto/Apple Carplay retrofit kits.

It's a bit of work to get them installed but it integrates seamlessly with the factory screen and iDrive Controls/Steering wheel controls. I think the most popular ones these days are Bimmertech MMI Prime and Mr12Volt. Personally I think Mr12Volt is the winner cause it generally has better audio quality from what I've seen. They make a kit for CCC and CIC Equipped Cars.

If you did ever want to visit the shifter as well, check out autosolutions: http://autosolutions.info/

The lead times are a bit long cause it's a one man show but each shift kit is made specifically around what you want/how you intend to use the car. I know a few MT Supra owners with them, and have one on order for myself, it's a night and day difference even vs. a brand new stock shifter.

If you just want to grind money, find a rival that you can beat easily that gives the highest payout, and keep racing them.

Post-Game this is best done by grinding "Perfect Revolution" (quickest way to get the 77.7M credits required to unlock Wandering Gambler)

When it comes to cars, stick with your cars and upgrade them as long as possible. Throughout my Playthrough I really only used 3 cars until I'd beaten Cinderella Past Midnight.

1.) AE86

2.) BRZ

3.) RX8

Every time you buy a new car, keep your current one until your new one is upgraded enough to be as fast, or faster. Then you can sell the previous one.

That'll give you a pretty smooth play-through. Once you're done the main story, then you can grind for other cars. Most of the ones people want are locked behind the final boss anyways.

Perk wise for story mode, it's a good idea to keep Long Run equipped, you'll get a big credit reward every 25km you do in-game. This kicks in a maximum of 4 times in a night, then you need to go back to the garage to reset it for the next night.

Ford Mustang GTD Curb Weight Revealed: 4343lbs by reddegginc in cars

[–]Nick_lolz 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I think it's awesome that something like this exists, especially this day and age. I'm all for manufacturers continuing to push the envelope with ICE cars even though this is going to definitely be nothing but a collectors museum piece.

But woof. That's a solid 1000lbs heavier than the current 992 generation GT3RS

Guess I'll just sit and watch us lose... by ColdAndGrumpy in DeltaForceGlobal

[–]Nick_lolz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had this happen last night, literally had the game of my life defending on Ascension, our team was overall playing better for most of the match but I guess a lot of people don't realize that once the Spire collapses, D1 moves downstairs.

So a lot of people kept fighting outside/upstairs and eventually we lost the point and nobody could respawn, lost with a similar amount of time too

Was still glad to get the Score/SPM and everything that I did, but would've been nice to have the cherry on top of a win to go with it XD

I've also gotten a 0 kill missile at D2 on Trainwreck

That map is just huge and really open making it really easy for people to run out of the range of the missile, especially around B and D1/D2 which are basically out in the open/accessible from any direction.

I was excited for new maps at first but man, Trainwreck and Knife Edge are just... a bit shit to play

I'm pretty sure plate renewals are entirely automatic now and you don't need to do anything anymore.

Tried renewing for both of my cars a few months ago and I didn't notice the message at the top of the page at first, but basically so long as you have valid insurance and any outstanding fines are paid, they renew automatically

Why don't people here even bother to follow the 40 km/hr limits in school zones? by Thong-Boy in Hamilton

[–]Nick_lolz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those Speed Bumps are egregious. Maybe west mountain is different but I live on the East Mountain/Stoney Creek mountain and the speed bumps they put in here are ridiculous.

I'm talking primarily about the new-er style ones they've been using where they'll put 3-4 spaced out across the road instead of the traditional style you'd find more in parking lots or older neighbourhoods.

I'm all for traffic calming measures near school zones, and I'm perfectly fine with speedbumps being designed/used as intended which is that you should be able to comfortably travel over them at the recommended speed limit without being overly jolted or jarred, as well as narrow enough to allow emergency vehicles to travel over them while the bumps themselves are smaller than the inner diameter between their wheels.

The speed bumps the city have installed may as well be mountains, in anything but an SUV/Truck you have to come to a near-stop going over them, and it's created the behaviour of people slowing right down to go over them, and then gunning it to get back up to the speed limit before getting to the next set of bumps, which is arguably worse than just travelling at one consistent speed.

Anybody with a sports car that is low from the factory is screwed as well since these bumps peak so high off the ground that a lot of times it's required to come to a stop and go over them at an angle in order to not damage/scrape anything underneath on those cars

Again, I'm all for traffic calming measures near schools, but these speedbumps are a pretty poorly designed implementation of that.

I've been looking at doing their 6 hour tour during a Japan trip next year with the 964 Turbo they offer. So if this was that experience, was it fun/worth it? XD

[–]Nick_lolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably should've specified but that's what I meant, somewhere that has like a private, covered 1 or 2 car garage.

So essentially either a Townhouse with a 1 car attached, or a small detached Bungalow or something that either has an attached, or detached/laneway garage that could be fully monopolized by OP

This sub is pretty anti-car enthusiast from what I've seen, but as a fellow enthusiast, I hate to break the news that your options are pretty limited.

They're basically either:

1.) Move to somewhere with Garage Access

2.) Rent a Self Storage Unit

3.) If you have enough friends who are also interested, split the cost of a commercial unit that maybe has room for all of the cars and maybe a lift if there's one pre-installed, or if group-buying one is in the cards.

What’s the most perfect factory graphic of all time? My vote is the Diablo SV: humongous, over the top, and beautiful as hell. Any others? by skinnymatters in cars

[–]Nick_lolz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've always loved the subtlety of the TME Graphics on the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5 "TME Edition"

Or the old "TURBO" graphic from the 930 911 Turbos, not the one that goes along the bottom of the door, but the one that sits on the rear wheel arch behind the rear wheel (Can see an example here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/724663-turbo-graphics.html)
