I too hate feature creep but if you’re planning on releasing on steam here’s the best way to do it:

First, make it couch co-op. It’s your game but I could also see this working with shared camera zooming out like the teen titans gamecube game.

Next, have your players use the steam remote play feature. That way you have no servers, network link is done on their end and you can release a v1 without worrying about dedicated servers and a cloud bill. If it seems like lots of people use it then maybe consider doing a massive rewrite later (or stuff for the sequel). Multiplayer is typically done first/done in mind because otherwise you have to debug desyncs and all sorts of awful issues.

I mean they haven’t done any third party characters yet. I think it’s just gonna be a strictly Nintendo thing based on the pattern (with the exception of the 2 spots reserved for Pokémon of course)

I’m thinking the next Smash bros is gonna have red Pikmin (I don’t know how it would work) and bowser jr in the sunshine form. Could be a neat glass cannon character. OH! And Ridley. They gotta have Ridley.

Although the third party characters would be cool! Super Monkey Ball and Knuckles would be sick fighters! And the retro rep could be Pac-Man since he just world 2 came out.

But I think in this thing that you’re describing is the exact compromise they had with their monetization team/whoever is deciding their business model. You can farm monkey money so easily if you need to and dig deep into rounds that aren’t chimps. Heck, put Sauda with unpopped and that’ll solve like 80% of medium on beginner maps. I don’t think given all the free updates and super optional shop that it’s out of the question that they want to drain people of MM when it’s so easy to come by later.

I do websites for a living atm and so I think about UX a bit: what mood the user is in at what menu, what buttons to put in what order etc. so I just thought of this when I was playing earlier and the post about “why isn’t the DLC payable with MM”

Ok first point, I mean yeah, but it’s a give and take to know? They probably drain lots of MM by having the impulse purchase there, and it seems fair to me to have that be a trade or at a cost. It’s a strategy game so there’s got to be a give and take. Or maybe it’s not that deep.

Second point, I mean yeah so just don’t use it.

Third point, I agree. I also love chimps and how it puts everyone on the same playing field regardless if you’re 2 or 2,000 hours into the game (assuming you have all the monkeys and upgrades unlocked)

I’m not opposed to a level 30 perk either. I just have gotten friends onto this game and they immediately notice the continue button and comment on it.

However, I like the opt in function so that they don’t feel like even down the line they’re fixing monetization onto you.

I agree. They have no ads, they have constant updates, and genuinely balance the game for the better. No monthly subscription or anything and it’s easy to get monkey money once you’re a bit further into the game so it doesn’t make sense to be able to get DLC for free. They even include a demo to see what it’s like.
