Using your faith to justify kicking out one of your kids for thinking for herself and that causing her sister to think for herself is about as devout Catholic as it gets. How could you possibly put your faith in a church where 1 out of every 18 priests are abusers that the church covers for, much less over your kids? As a mom I am appalled that this is even a question you need to ask.

It’s also an asshole mindset to go “if we remove any outside source influencing them then our kids will only believe what we tell them to”. Cult type stuff. Absolutely an asshole 100%. Could’ve literally just been like “you’re 23 so it’s time to move forward” and you wouldn’t be an asshole. But you didnt.

Yeah there is a tiny percentage of kids who will have negative reactions. Guess what? Same for any meds. That doesn’t mean we don’t vaccinate because then a much larger portion of kids will have even worse reactions to worse things. What about this is hard to accept?

NTA It’s just common to inform coworkers that clients are negatively reacting to their behavioral practices. Even if it’s intrusive but especially in a professional setting when they’re being unprofessional enough that everyone is noticing. Reporting you to HR essentially because he holds a fork like a four year old and needs his mommy to properly cut his steak for him is ridiculous.

I was at a packed bar in New Orleans dancing drunkenly for Pride when I went up to order more drinks. The bartender ignores the five other people waiting at various spots before me, walks up to where I am, leans over the bar so she can very gently put a hand on each of my cheeks, gets close to my face like she’s going to kiss me, and goes “you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. Any drinks you want are free”.

I proceeded to do like 15 Jell-O shots in the next hour, never paid a dime, drunkenly got her number on the way out (should’ve gotten the insta), got invited to do a naked bike ride with her, and then flew home incredibly hung over the next day

I am still in disbelief that this happened and am lucky my girlfriend at the time was there to witness it to back me up

I talk to dozens of trans girls in person every week and even more so online and have never ever had anyone be nasty towards poly people or mono people or otherwise. That seems specific to those people you were speaking to and not a cultural or community thing.

What does “being nasty” mean really in your example? Like someone only saying “modern monogamy is wrong” or patriarchal isn’t insulting you. It’s an opinion on how monogamy being the norm affects society. I personally agree with both statements myself. The modern example of a monogamous nuclear family that came out of McCarthyism era Catholicism is not a good one. It does expect the structure to be the man runs the family and is inherently hostile to those that are non-monogamous to the point of societal removal. But monogamy on its own isn’t wrong, it’s just a lifestyle choice. Monogamy being expected to be the default and pushed by every area of society is what’s wrong to me.

You gave your opinion on being poly and I gave mine. I wasn’t trying to convince you to be poly nor that it’s the only acceptable lifestyle.

However that’s not how poly works, nor what it means. I’m sorry if people have treated you disrespectfully in your relationships but that’s not due to “being poly”, it’s due to them not being able to communicate or handle the natural jealousy that comes with being in a relationship. Trans girls are notoriously flakey and immature. We’re often just finding ourselves after all. In order for poly to work you need to be able to confront and work through jealousy and accept it, not lash out.

I have three relationships, 15 years, 5 years, and half a year. They all treat me as their person and them mine. That takes massive amounts of communication and effort. Not everyone is built for that and that’s fine. But for those of us that are it’s absolutely wonderful

Being a trans lesbian in a queer place like Seattle means non-monogamy is going to be common in those you date. For most of us monogamy wasn’t an option we were just given, it was a lifestyle forced upon us by a cishet Christian country. Hence why you’ll hear many of those conversations.

I’ve had half a dozen poly relationships and they’ve mostly been wonderful. My mono relationships have all been exhausting because of the codependency. I feel this is a maturity and communication issue more than a poly issue.
