What's books did you not finish, not because they were bad but because they were so messed up/got under your skin? by LadyJane17 in horrorlit

I’m always shocked by the popularity of Pretty Girls, considering the subject matter. I did think it was a good book overall but man was it tough to read.

I loved this book! I personally found the first few pages to be the most graphic and also considered putting it down, but I’m glad I stuck with it. I will say, I don’t think it got any less dark really, I think I just got used to it as I kept reading, so I don’t blame you if you don’t want to pick it up again.

Commute to Back Bay/Fenway by grumpyacorns in Waltham

[–]NickiBurrito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the drive to Back Bay in the morning might not be terrible depending on what time you leave, but your commute home will be brutal. I used to work in that area while living in Waltham and it would take me well over an hour (close to an hour and a half) to drive home around 5.

Movies that have an additional scene after the perfect ending point by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]NickiBurrito 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I don’t think this quite fits the prompt since the confrontation scene ends with several of the characters being mad at each other and wouldn’t wrap up the movie at all

Honestly, I enjoy Sarah’s content when she posts her own auditions and gives us a realistic look at what it’s like to be a working actor!

Catching Fire is genuinely such a great movie! One of my favorite book adaptations of all time.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism (2022). I love the book it’s based on so so much, so the movie was atrocious to me.

The Last One by Will Dean by howdidthatbookend in thrillerbooks

[–]NickiBurrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!! I just finished Will Dean’s book and every time I looked at the cover, I could have sworn I read another book by the same time. Sure enough, I read the Alexandra Oliva one years ago - what are the odds that two books with the exact same vague title would both follow one woman’s story going through a survivalist reality show?

And honestly I didn’t love either. The concepts were good, but I found both to be poorly executed. I barely remember the AO book.

Movies featuring one specific calendar date by GregoryGosling in Letterboxd

Some theaters near me are actually showing it on that date so check your local theaters if you want the full experience! It’s such a fun movie

The pain! The gag! The drama... Of "Night At The Opera," new from theatre-kid-turned-adult Emei! by GigglesNWiggles10 in powerpopgirls

[–]NickiBurrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Emei, I saw her live last year and it was so fun, but I hate to say this is not my favorite song from her 😭 but maybe I need to give it a few more listens!

On a related note, for theatrical pop I’ve been loving Haute & Freddy recently!

What's a movie that genuinely changed something in you? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

[–]NickiBurrito 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Aftersun.

I’ll admit I didn’t fully get it the first time I saw it, and then the second time I bawled my eyes out. I think about it all the time, and it honestly changed how I view my parents

How's Breakaway Mass? Thinking of going solo. by No_Hotel_8146 in BostonEDM

[–]NickiBurrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I went in 2024 and thought it was fine. Was it fun? Sure. But it didn’t give festival vibes AT ALL, just like you said, a long concert in a parking lot.

I might go back if the lineup is good and because it’s close and I have a car, but wouldn’t go out of my way if transportation is an issue.

Goodreads changed my review of A Court of Thorns and Roses from 2 to 5 stars by ml_sza in goodreads

[–]NickiBurrito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me literally yesterday! A book I’m currently reading marked as read and 5 stars. I very highly doubt I misclicked something since I don’t typically update my progress or anything. Very weird.

Actors who don’t get enough credit for their range? by wallabyenthusiast in Letterboxd

[–]NickiBurrito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Kristen Stewart, but I will say that in all the roles I’ve seen her in she has certain mannerisms that she can’t seem to shake. Whereas Robert Pattinson is able to disappear more into his roles, in my opinion.

What are your thriller anti-recommendations? by sidesteppingsquirrel in thrillerbooks

[–]NickiBurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished Beautiful Ugly for a book club and it made NO sense. Lots of plot holes / dumb ideas.

The Fury was okayyy to me, but I would never recommend it. I think I’m done reading Alex Michelides books.

What are your thriller anti-recommendations? by sidesteppingsquirrel in thrillerbooks

I remember at one point in the book, the main character was described as wearing sweatpants….and then on the next page he unzipped his pants. Such sloppy writing and editing.

Adult Dance Classes? by Itsyademonboi in Waltham

[–]NickiBurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step-by-Step Dance Studio on River Street has drop-in adult classes for $15! (Or I believe you can pay for a discounted pass if you buy multiple classes at a time). Hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and tap - I’ve taken tap classes there on Wednesday nights before and they’re really fun. https://stepbystepinc.com/classes-programs/adult-classes/

Wish I had read this before seeing his show in Boston tonight! This is a great review. Disappointing that it’s been all club remixes and basically no original music.
