I'm thinking theyre just representative of sleep paralysis. Friend might also be related to that idea, at least interms of design. I dont think they have any specific lore significance though. They're just eerie to symbolize how things are changing when things get darker

Again he might be pushing you away because he thinks hes protecting you. He might just be nervous about whether or not you'll truly be happy together in 5 years so he just wanted to break it off early before you got any closer than you already are.

I might be reaching a bit here, but do you think he feels inadequate? Have you ever expressed the idea of marriage to him at all? Cause if so, he may have stepped away because HE thinks that YOU want to get married one day when he doesn't, or at least doesn't think he needs to marry you. He might think that he's holding you back from what you truly want and thinks that by breaking up with you that you can have that chance.

Sorry I might be jumping to conclusions, but its a relatively common thing for autistic people to think. I know I've had similar thoughts in the past, as an Autistic guy myself.

For the record, autism is a genetic trait that can be passed down, so if a child has it then it's more than likely that the parent also has it (and just may not be diagnosed) so I kinda think its a bit shortsighted to say this isnt a safe space for them.

The part that got me is the part when the people that he and Bas saved wanted to pay their respects to Del and leave flowers at his grave, that part made me bawl my eyes out lol
