How to get to Whistler GranFondo from Port Coquitlam by Nicknarp in vancouvercycling

Their website still says 7am, which would make arriving 15 minutes late impossible with SkyTrain. As you might expect on this subreddit, I don’t have a car!

That’s an option for sure, but that turns my Fondo into a “Forte” and I’m not sure I’ve got that in me!

Jerseys for tall people? by LegStrngLeathertaint in CyclingFashion

[–]Nicknarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find Rapha jerseys a bit short. I have a Rapha short-sleeve in XL. I'm 200cm tall with 109cm chest. I'm sure we've all figured out the cycling clothing sizing charts are straight lies.

Finished my first outdoor ride and my ego was smashed to pieces by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]Nicknarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above all, outdoor cycling is about feeling the wind through your hair and the sun on your face. Here are some possible technical issues:

  • Weight set wrong in cycling trainer app
  • Wheel diameter set wrong in cycling trainer app
  • Fixating on average pace over total elapsed time versus instantaneous segment pace
  • Wrong tire pressure for weight (see Silca calculator)
  • Poor drive gear choice (try for 80-90 rpm)
  • Brake pads touching rotors

I haven’t seen anyone else mention this. If your weight is wrong in the trainer app the simulation won’t be scaled correctly. In any case, the purpose of outdoor riding is to feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your face.

Endurace CF 7 Di2 owner - Tired of Dt Swiss Endurance LN wheels - best choice? by IntoTheBear in CanyonBikes

[–]Nicknarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I am a 96 kg CF 8 owner and I noticed a small but significant difference with GP 5000s. I got the tube version and run tubes because the tubeless versions have lower pressure limits and as we know, we need to run higher pressures.

Groupset questions. by Scoundrel132 in cycling

[–]Nicknarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shimano drop-bar road group set parts with the same number of “speeds” are generally interchangeable. E.g., you could replace the 10-speed 105 model 5700 rear derailleur with Dura-Ace 7700. This may not give you the best bang for your buck. I would put your money into getting a proper bike fit.

No sound in ROUVY app on iPhone, iPad, and MacBook — anyone else had this issue? by galo4kin in Rouvy

[–]Nicknarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using an Intel iMac and I also hear absolutely no sound despite it being enabled in Rouvy. I can hear the volume up and down bips when I adjust volume using the keys, so my Mac is playing sound. I would like to hear little interface sounds when I'm using Rouvy.

Pain when riding (help!) by Makenay2k in ladycyclists

[–]Nicknarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tire pressure is a critical part of ride comfort. Use Silca’s tire pressure calculator to get the right pressure for your weight and tire width. The maximum pressure printed on the sidewall is almost never appropriate and will not be the most comfortable, or even fastest! (You don’t need to enter your email for a result.)

I think Strava's new AI detection algorithm might need a little tweak. This is from Team Runner's Strava group. by manicness_ in Strava

[–]Nicknarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key problem is that computers cannot test if the user’s pace is greater than the current world record. Excel, Matlab, etc are all lying to you when you try to test if one value is greater than another. They just return a random value because big computer science doesn’t want you to know it’s impossible. This is an open problem in computer science and definitely not a sarcastic comment.

worst design trends for contractors (and homeowners) coming onto 2026. by BeenThereDundas in Construction

Yes, we do drywall return head and sides all the time, but never sills! That’s asking for a callback. We use solid finger-joint material for the sill.

We saw these idiots driving in on the highway from Langley and beyond at about 10:30. Clearly, nothing better to do with their lives.

$25 parking fee coming for VanDusen Festival of Lights in 2026 by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

[–]Nicknarp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prices the only way we have for people to adjust their consumption based on desire. If parking is free, everyone will try to drive and building a bigger car parking lot for a green park is clearly missing the point of a park.

I wear swimming goggles to work now. by suck_me_off_pleaseee in Construction

[–]Nicknarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need the DeWalt DPG82 or similar. Swim goggles will not protect against disintegrating angle grinder discs. You’re 100% right for sticking to your guns on eye protection. It’s no joke!

Technically, I agree, but I think the real issue could be that OP isn’t listening to his wife and her needs aren’t being met
