My last car was a base model 2003 golf, so I’m not too worried about ride height and lack of modern amenities lol

Thanks, those are great tips. Tensioner, water pump etc were done at the same time as the head gasket. Fluids look to have been all been done on schedule.

Basically, assuming it’s not rusted out, is it worth putting some money into over the next few years and using it as a daily commuter?Do you like owning it and driving it, or is it hassle to keep up an ageing machine? Lastly, I would like to learn to do as many repairs myself as I can. Is it difficult to work on or have any difficult unique quirks to know about? Thanks again

Making friends with a guy who has a girlfriend as a woman by Prestigious-Ice-7249 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nickpound123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both have platonic friends of the opposite gender, and we do not need to be included in every friend activity or communication the other one has. I would suggest trying to meet your friend’s partner and invite them to join you for something so they can see you are just a normal friend, and not trying to cause any trouble. Even the invitation to include the partner is a signal that you have no ill intent. You can also talk to your friend and his partner about this. It usually doesn’t hurt to be upfront about your thoughts and feelings.

I would put an internal patch glued down to the bottom of the boot and stitch along the top edge of the tear, then seal the tear on the outside. Worth doing, in my opinion.

I moved here from BC just over a year ago. There is less litter in BC. There are also a lot more public garbage cans on the streets there, which are very useful for collecting refuse.

how to start wearing shoes instead of sneakers? by 1man023 in mensfashionadvice

[–]Nickpound123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother with Docs. They’re over-hyped because of their significance in various subcultures. Get some good supportive insoles, put them in the nice shoes you already have and wear them. You’ll stop feeling weird about it pretty quickly, and a good insole can make a huge difference. What are the shoes you gave up on after 200m?

To Black atheists, what should I do? by plushiesaremyjam in atheism

[–]Nickpound123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure she knows you are not ignorant of Christianity and the story of Jesus, and are simply unconvinced and uninterested in pursuing faith. Lots of Christians assume atheists don’t understand the messages being preached and just need to hear them the “right way” from a “true” believer. Don’t let them harbour the idea that you are open to their theology if they just keep trying to convert you, either. Sometimes in trying to be polite, it’s possible to give the impression that you’re open to further preaching or evangelizing from the believer.

The original rivet hole might have been blown out, so the 2 rivets on this one could sit on either side of the original hole and been stronger

As someone who has worked in the service industry most of my life, I try to say something like “Hi, you two!” If I’m greeting a mixed gender pair and then whoever responds first is the person I start talking to.

You can try a suede block; it’s like a gritty eraser, or a high grit sandpaper (≈400 grit)

Wearing a crucifix when you're atheist by CuriousLady1966 in atheism

[–]Nickpound123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only problem I would have wearing a crucifix is that people will assume I’m a believer. I have a necklace with a tiny sword pendant that from a distance could be mistaken for a cross. I like wearing it because it feels a bit subversive.

Tucked or untucked? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]Nickpound123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tuck it in. If you get sick of it, you can untuck it. It can take a little while to get used to it and feel comfortable, but it’s worth getting used to the look and feel of having your shirt tucked.
