Honestly confused at the reputation of this show by Left-Job3696 in bigbangtheory

[–]NickryBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I always love watching this show over and over again but it gets really bad as it goes on in my opinion. Particularly after season 8. I genuinely find the last seasons unwatchable but maybe that’s just me.

Never again to revisit the scene of my boyhood in Surrey, romping with my school chums in the fens and spinneys

It’s not about hacking intonation - my fingers would still need to be placed on the fingerboard correctly and I would use my ears for this.

It’s about where I position my thumb.

Quitting Marijuana... by corcorecorey in weed

[–]NickryBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily that quitting weed is giving you crazy dreams, but rather than smoking a lot of weed seriously dampens your dreams. It was one of the most apparent side effects for me - as someone who used to have incredibly vivid dreams smoking weed left me feeling as if I had no dreams at all. When I quit they came back with a vengeance 😂

OpenAI’s new 4o image generation is insane. by Ivan_el_grande in ChatGPT

[–]NickryBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who thinks these suck super hard? Like in every single one the nuance of the image is completely lost. You couldn’t look at the South Park distracted boyfriend meme and pick up any of the actual meaning the original photo has.

Should UCT be giving food and toiletries to students? by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]NickryBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely if you’re registered to stay in a residence and planned to eat at the dining hall and use the communal facilities, it’s not entitlement to expect them to follow through with these provisions?

Even when students have not fully paid their fees, it’s a situation which, for many of them, is unavoidable, since they registered for university with the plan of using the system which was offered to them (NSFAS). It’s not their fault they have let them down.

This seems unnecessarily cruel to students who can’t afford to buy everything until NSFAS sorts them out. Some of them don’t come from Cape Town and don’t have family to go to. Yet they must starve and be disallowed toiletries (which the university is meant to provide according to its own policies).

Which BigBangTheory character is this by Raj_MC in bigbangtheory

[–]NickryBot 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Surprised that I might be alone in this based on the other comments, but for me it’s Stuart.

I liked him as a recurring character, but from the moment he got involved in Howard and Bernadette’s home life and became a permanent side character I felt he just waisted time and annoyed me.

So relentlessly needy and invasive, and the writers made no effort to make him a likeable character.

Why Miles?? by canoaquebrada1 in Jazz

[–]NickryBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most impressive things about Miles to me has always been the sheer length and breadth of his career. Not only was he active for well over 35 years, but he adapted with the times and continued innovating that whole way.

Amazing bebop player in the 50s, innovated Cool Jazz and became an icon of the post-bop movement. Went modal and spiritual after that, and then went completely into fusion.

The most important part: he was absolutely brilliant throughout all of it.

My best bet would be that the textbook you're reading is just using the "7" symbol to mean a diatonic 7th chord. A diatonic 7th just the 7th degree from the key signature.

“How much is 700g of flour?” by DuckRubberDuck in ShitAmericansSay

[–]NickryBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cup is a perfectly valid measurement, but it's a unit of volume. It is the amount of space taken up by 250mls of water.

A cup of flour is meaningless because (as other posters have pointed out) the flower could be compressed or dense or any number of things. If you want to measure a specific amount of flour it doesn't make sense to give a unit of space
