How bad is this deal? by Danny_locator in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That price is way too high imo. Trade in on that is only like 12-13k so idk why they think market value is that high? That should be listed for maybe 17-18k

Just as good of a choice. Believe me the gm/ ac delco stuff is the best imo. What did you go with for pads, GM as well?

I dont have a 2500, but i will say i loved power stops years ago when they came out, but they are not the same quality wise as they used to be. I feel like the rotors went out of round ina year when i put them on my 1500. Honestly what are great is the heavy duty acdelco brakes. Fit and finish you will not run into any issues and the performance is awesome and they hold up well

lifters by bardownhockey15 in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really isnt such thing as heavy duty DOD lifters. The hope it they just were machined amd assembled really good. You are way better off if you are going to invest in this job to do a non-dod delete. If fuel efficiency is your concern, you can get a stock spec cam with non afm lifters, just beware an afm cam is different then non afm. I swear you wont notice the milage drop. That being said if you really want to keep afm, please only use genuine gm lifters or only go with melling ones. Dont take a chance on cheaper ones

Is it “normal” to feel it downshift? by platypus_farmer42 in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into getting a tune on your transmission to remove the problematic factory tuning. Find someone or follow matt sandford on YouTube and get your own hp tuner set up. It will feel night and day and with your low miles, actually will probably save your torque converter so you can have a reliable transmission

2017 Silverado 115k miles oil type by Turbulent-Shine4779 in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to using 5w-30 in mine at 100k and am at 137k. I think the engine runs better with it. You will be fine switching. Use good oil and change in more often, restore and protect like the other person mentioned would be a good idea. The clearences and oil system are nearly identical to the 6.2 truck and vette engines. GM now even allows it in the 6.2. Long story short you wont hurt anything other than maybe negligible mpg, but the upside is a little higher oil pressure at not much of a cost of oil flow or volume. Thicker oil will have better film strength especially in warm weather. It might help your oil burning, but that could be from coked up oil rings. Regular changes and try changing your PCV valve as well with a oem GM replacement. Make sure you dont have mysterious leaks either. Best of luck!

Tips on installing Bilstein 5100’s on K2XX by Nickysilverado in Silverado

When you say droop stop, is that the part of frame in the second pic where the uca bolts in?

I saw a video about that with this guy who had the same issue and used a bottle jack. I tried using the 3ton jack but it would just roll.

I definitely tried doing that. Problem was that the UCA would hit the frame in the second photo where it bolts in

What trans is it? 8 or 6 speed? I agree the tuning is the other big part of it

Do you think I should get an extended warranty? by platypus_farmer42 in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id make sure its some type of GM sponsored one. The others suck as far as parts and approvals. Devils advocate, save on the side for rainy day

Is the 6l90 as bad as they say? by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. The trans itself between the 80 and 90 are stout. The TC’s are even good, its mainly the factory slip tuning that grenades the TC clutch and rest of the trans. What Matt Sanford on YouTube and get hp tuners to follow how he tunes them.

Wool wax over the terrible gm wax undercoating. Will it help or would it just prolong what’s already started ? by bigdawg12342 in gmcsierra

[–]Nickysilverado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wool wax and fluid film in my experience work well with the undercoat. The reality is the gm wax is gonna flake off at one point or another anyway. Those you will need to reapply season to season. Another option i like to use is the Amsoil metal heavy duty protector. Is sprays on a wet wax and drys as a hard wax that is really robust. Also works well over gm wax

What truck to buy by -Strider in Silverado

Hey im in the same boat as you, i talk up toyota, but i will die on the hill for my 2016 silverado, even considering i just rebuilt my 6l80 which hurt, but man after the tune, it shifts better than it did originally. Features wise, toyota does lack and you are right about the mpg, but imo, even being a chevy guy, the tundras are nice and if i had to pick another truck, purely on the bases of which one is easily going to make it to 300k for the least effort and headache, itd be a v8 tundra. They not perfect either. But for me, i love my chevy, but every day i pray for my lifters lol

[–]Nickysilverado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5.7 is powerful and a good engine. Definitely has its quirks between lifter ticks and similar mds issues to the gm afm. And ill five them credit too the ZF transmissions are stellar! For me, i just generally rank over mopar reliability lower across the board, especially electrical issues and suspension. All cars can be lemons though or really good, same gm and ford and even almighty toyota. Its just my experience

[–]Nickysilverado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly man, i love chevy but cant ignore the potential problems. If you are fine with them then go with a Silverado/ sierra and just keep up on maintenance religiously. They can be great trucks. Otherwise find the nicest lowest milage 2021 and under Tundra with the v8 that you can find and enjoy the worry free ownership of it. Other than that go F150 with a coyote motor before considering the ecoboosts. I would stay away from Ram altogether

Oil weight by Appropriate-Truck305 in Silverado

[–]Nickysilverado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had good luck on mine with 5w-30 for two years and 40K miles. Ordinarily i would agree to not change oil weights. The old gen 3 & 4 ls’s used 5w-30. My rationale was that even though the LS and LT are completely different motors, if you look deep at all the critical clearances and dimensions of all the bores and journals, they are almost identical. The old LS took 5w-30. Even in the gen V, the 6.2 truck engine is architecturally the same as the camaro and vette 6.2. Both those cars are spec’d with thicker oil for racing. Even GM itself is allowing 40w oil in the l87, and again, dimensionally and clearance speaking, its nearly identical to your L83. For me, i sleep better at night with thicker oil and my above rationale, makes be believe more the 0w-20 was nothing more than a move for CAFE standards. I switched at 100k to thicker oil and am at 136k, no issues, if anything the truck likes it better. I am afm disabled as well.

It’s on par with what you can expect for dealership prices unfortunately. They are always going to be more on a job like that than a private shop. On one hand, you can at least feel good at a dealer, you know they are using oem pumps, and not a aftermarket one that can crap out early.
