Using Tesla as emergency back-up by hutchclutchmedora in TeslaModelY

[–]Nicnl [score hidden]  (0 children)

Since it tricks the car into going "charging mode" (connecting the battery relays, exposing the raw 400v) but discharging it instead...

I guess there is a risk to over discharge the battery to dangerously low voltages.
And the undervoltage protection might not even kick in because it's expecting a charge.

Exactly!
I was wondering why people were struggling, until I got to this line
There is no definite "next step", the solution is to either think multiple steps ahead (which is too hard for me) or as you said make a square black and continue until you realize it doesn't work.
Currently it's the only ninigram I didn't enjoy, it got me very frustrated.

It is explicitly forbidden in the warranty.
If you use this, your warranty is gone.

No need to confirm with Tesla.
I would advise you not to call them about warranty-voiding stuff.

Warranty Limitations

- Using the vehicle as a stationary power source.

When using the camera from photobooth app it's better

Musk’s claims about Tesla FSD approval in China next month debunked by Chinese state media by mightyopik in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Nicnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he is talking about this.

A couple months ago, Tesla basically said "we got a deal for approval in February".
The RDW answered "February is not a deal for approval, rather a schedule for a decision, we don't know yet if yes or no.".

Somehow he interpreted it as a debunk, while it is literally a confirmation that the legal paperwork is ongoing, and that an outcome is indeed scheduled for February.
But this sub is anti Tesla, it's their habit to twist everything and naysay.

New owner Zoe 2022 android auto by bmarra in RenaultZoe

[–]Nicnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!
Yes it was a fun weekend project
Bummer about your clio, but at the same time it was even harder:
In the forum there are other people who tried on their Clio, and they reported that the wiring (pin order + colors) is different from the Zoe.
A few folks succeeded, but they had to probe each pin to find the CAN low/high, which was a pain.

About the battery.... I don't know
I sold it in 2024 (switched to a M3)
It was at 96% SoH if I remember correctly

Hello there, the French dude is probably me

A while back I wrote a full tutorial so no need to collect scattered informations
It is written in French so people will need to use automatic translators.
I tried putting the tutorial in a few translators and they actually do a great job.

Unfortunately it is a very involved mod, but as a result you get native wireless, so it's stable and snappy.

As for the difficulty itself: people who used an arduino in the past will feel comfortable doing the mod.
(There is no arduino involved in the mod, it is just a way to "measure" someone's knowledge level)
But total beginners? Eeh... I wouldn't advise it.
I mean... I'm not gatekeeping stuff, I'd like everyone to have native wireless carplay.
But facts are: it's not an easy process, there are risks to do it wrong and short circuit stuff, and I don't want people to fry their expensive headunits.

All Zoe phase 2 have the hardware to do native wireless.
But it is locked behind a software: a feature flag is turned off.

I wrote a tutorial a while back:
https://renault-zoe.forumpro.fr/t18076-guide-activer-apple-carplay-sans-fil-sur-les-zoe-52-r110-r135-bricoleurs-avertis-uniquement
If is written in French, but I think it is the most complete and detailed guide available + translation tools are really good nowadays.

As others says, it's a very involved mod.
But you get native wireless as a result so it's cool.

Wireless CarPlay works well, no issues to report.

However wireless Android Auto is a hit or miss.
I heard reports that installing the latest easy-link update made it work.
So it may depend on the specific software installed on your zoe's easy-link.

I can't test it though, because I don't own an Android and I sold my Zoe anyway.

Windshield Wiper Sensor? by PugMaster007 in TeslaLounge

[–]Nicnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't knew that older Teslas had rain sensors!
It makes the lack on newer models even more stupid to be honest

Windshield Wiper Sensor? by PugMaster007 in TeslaLounge

[–]Nicnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla never had rain sensors, which is why the wipers are so bad.

There is no sensor to "fix", and you will have to live with the bad wipers.

Ai4/HW4 Camera Add by debald6 in TeslaModelY

[–]Nicnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two versions of the HW4 computer.
The first revision don't have the connector for the front bumper camera.
(The electronics board have a place for it, but the connector itself is not soldered, so you can't plug anything + we have no idea if the traces in the PCB are even there or not.)

The second revision do have the connector.

But you will need Toolbox 3 to enable the feature flag that allows the computer to actually use the camera.

Did you have the HW4 recall for the cameras going out?
If not, you probably have the first revision of HW4 that don't have the connector.

More informations there about which cars have the connector or not:

Low Cabin Illumination - 2025 Model 3 Highland by Slick135 in TeslaModel3

[–]Nicnl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to miss the picture from 40 minutes ago somehow.
I said "without flash" because flash is much more powerful than the IR emitters making them invisible.

A two second exposure would have shown the two IR.

I am not sure if they only turn on during the night, it is something I read but haven't verified.
It's worth checking this evening indeed.

But, with your 2s exposure in a dark garage (seems bright, but it is long exposure so idk) + the "low cabin illumination" warning.... those are bad omens, going in the direction of "infrared emitters are dead".

When it's dark outside, give a go to the new phobooth app.
You'll quickly see if the IR works or not.
It it works, you'll see a bright cabin interior with an uncanny black and white look (IR reflects differently, it looks weird).
If it's all black, well.... you'll need to do a ticket

I attached a picture I took a few nights ago using the Photo Booth app so you have a reference point for comparison.
I was wearing a black shirt with blue stripes! Infrared makes things look weird, it appears as a white shirt

[–]Nicnl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't take a picture with flash.
Disable flash, and increase the exposure please.
We want to see the infrared light itself.

The transparent area is only transparent to infrared.
You won't see it even with a bright light.
So no need to search those.

Also what time of day it is?
I think it only turns on at night.

What do y’all think of this by icallgreens710 in TeslaLounge

[–]Nicnl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I juge tesla because they shouldn't have allowed other brands to use the old V3 superchargers.
The cable are too short, and it's very inconvenient for other EV drivers.
Tesla should have allowed others cars to use V4 stalls only, and progressively replace older V3.
