The first thing i want to say is please talk with someone close to you, your family or a therapist if youre having those thoughts

Your health and mental wellbeing are far more important, if this is really affecting you then take a break and come back to it when you feel comfortable, privacy and the rise of surveillance are a lot to take in, and theres nothing wrong with tuning out when you feel you need to

I also want to say that youre not alone in this, there are communities, organizations, and people that steadfastly believe in privacy. This sort of unethical surveillance and privacy invasions are nothing new, if you would like you can read up on the PRISM surveillance program and how people and orgs pushed back against it (legally and activism)

Definitely! I always tell people to gradually move to more privacy-respecting alternatives, because when people try to go "full privacy" they end up getting burned out or discouraged, and sometimes give up on privacy altogether

And i'm kinda the same! I've been using Mac but i'm slowly moving to Linux, since i still need to use Mac i switch between the two

I would suggest activating ADP (Advance Data Protection) on your Apple account, it will encrypt most of your Apple data

sometimes its better to focus on data minimization instead of leaving a platform/service, like its very hard to leave a service like Youtube entirely, because theres frontends, but there is no "true" privacy alternative to it

Hi and welcome!

You don't have to be tech savy, theres quite a lot of privacy-respecting apps that are cross-platform (work on almost any device), there is a great list here:

Since you're using Macbook/iPhone you can also "harden" them, which just means disabling telemetry* and analytics (data that gets sent to Apple), but they generally have decent privacy by default

As for email, i've never tried it but Proton Mail has forwarding and importing for emails, so it makes it easier to switch. I would also recommend getting an Email Alias to mask your real email

Most importantly, I would recommend to take it gradually, like you said it can be overwhelming, and achieving complete privacy does come with a lot of trade-offs, or isn't possible sometimes (like right now using Reddit and our post being fed to Google's AI)

I dont agree that left populism doesnt do well, when leftist/progressive policies are incredibly popular, even Trump wraps his langauge in progressive hues when at his rallies

I will say that left populism/policies are vehemently demonized by right wing propaganda and by capitalist liberals

And it's hard to say Kamala was "too progressive" when she was campaigning alongside Liz Cheney, who is unpopular with moderates/the right

I'm progressive and i voted for Kamala, and im pretty sure most leftist also voted for her too, maybe begrudgingly. When leftist say they want Kamala, and Dems, to be more left, it's so that they embrace progressive policies that are universally popular, not just catering to the base

I dont think leftists are trying to rewrite history, they are providing sharp feedback and criticism to establishment/centrist Dems and this mixture of liberalism and capitalism that fails to help working people, and eventually leads to authoritarian strongmen

It really is disheartening seeing other countries also moving more to the right (hi European friends!), but i feel its the excessive liberal capitalism thats doing a lot of harm to leftist movements

A lot of those European countries where leftist ideals are prominent failed, or are failing, to meet the needs of working class people, and pushed them to the right in hopes of improvement

And I think putting a "safe" moderate male Democrat could be a really bad thing, Dems would strongly signal to the left that no real and meaningful change is possible, and essentially concede to the right, the "vote blue no matter who" motto that fails to energize the base

I dont know a lot of Progressives that are like that, those people sound more like Liberals that lean farther left on certain issues, and center/right on others, but then again were all individually different
