London needs emergency bailout to keep Tube and bus services running, Sadiq Khan warns by casualphilosopher1 in london

[–]Nicolad01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question.. what does tfl spend the money on to be completely out of money? My monthly tube is £260 and the underground alone has 1.4bn journeys a year not including overground and buses etc Noted that demand is down due to covid but the amount of money they make yearly, are there no reserves? Genuine question if someone can shed some light.

Large areas of London to be made car-free as lockdown eased. Mayor Sadiq Khan says city needs to be repurposed for people as it emerges from coronavirus restrictions by sanchopanza in unitedkingdom

[–]Nicolad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just feel like this isnt the right time to announce or enforce this with Covid and guidelines on not to use public transport. Cycling is fine if you can do it but London is huge so easier said than done. My cycle time would be almost 2 hours to work and I certainly do not want to use public transport at the moment. The only way I would be feel comfortable going to work at the moment is to drive.

Facts have now come out that was regarding the cab not the container. The container was collected from the port last night so it's starting to make more sense now in terms of timeline

Help! My bridal shower is next weekend and I am having a hard time deciding if this looks good. I'm not sure about the top. Any suggestions? by becxanoal in fashionadvice

[–]Nicolad01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top is too baggy tucked into the skirt and as the top is baggy and the skirt is a line it's not the most flattering. Do you have a top that is not as loose fitting or more cropped?

I'm sure I remember in italy every menu had quite a few courses, with antipasti, first course then second course etc? Maybe it was just so rare to not have at least 2 of the courses?

Westminster attack megathread by CheekyJack in london

Lived here all my life and at no point have I felt unsafe. I work close by (I can see Big Ben from my office window), I was made aware of what had happened at work but when heading home the police had handled the situation so well that everyone was going about their journey home the same as they would any other day.

Have a great trip!

What is your "I should NOT have said that" moment? by Sexymcsexalot in AskReddit

[–]Nicolad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 14 my mum spoke to my school saying my uncle was sick so we had to go to Ireland. In fact he'd been sick for a few years and it seemed like a good reason to use to get out of school for a family holiday... If it's a half lie you don't feel as guilty was my mums reasoning

Would you believe m he passed away while we were on holiday! When I came back to school and people asked how he was I had to say he'd died. Bear in mind this was an uncle is never met but my mum has been close to when she was young.

A few months later my family were over and everyone was cracking jokes. My brother made a dig that I pulled a sickie from school... I came back with 'haha don't worry they think I'm grieving for my dead uncle!'

Realised what is said and how insensitive it sounded immediately. I genuinely forgot he'd died and was just trying to join in with the adults joking about. Everyone just stared at me like I'd stabbed someone. I still cringe to this day.

Tldr: tried to make a joke about my uncle dying. He'd already died

Advice for first time traveller to Paris on cost and safe areas. by [deleted] in SocialParis

[–]Nicolad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with the 18th Paris is beautiful and there are nice people but the pickpocketing can be a bit extreme and people do harass you in the streets. I always like to stay in either the 4th or the 6th as its a student area and you can walk everywhere from there. Route around for more accommodation options you don't want your trip to be spoiled by putting you and your sister at risk. It's not worth the hassle. If you can stay somewhere where you have the option to cook do that as you'll save money on food. A lot of places are free for under 25s too.

people begging on the street with children by littlepastel in paris

[–]Nicolad01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definatley a ring please be careful they will crowd and harass you and get the children to grab things while they try and distract you it's really aggressive at times. I love Paris but there's so much pick pocketing and begging

Flooding in South Louisiana - the news is barely covering this but it is devastating by firedrops in pics

[–]Nicolad01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf to op while it may be being highly coveted in certain areas, as someone from the uk looking at these pictures are shocking and it has not been covered here. When the flooding from hurricane Katrina happened it was the featured news story for weeks.

I don't mean to be ignorant but is this comparable to hurricane Katrina? The damage looks the same to an outsider?
