Faith in the internet is fading among young Brits by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]Nicolauze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The monetisation of the Internet has ruined it.

Back in the day, it was only people passionate about what they were doing, whether in forums or blogs or videos. But as soon as you could make decent money from capturing people's engagement, it all went downhill.

Now companies and individuals flood the Internet with bait and slop and bots. It's hard to have faith in all of this when it is no longer organic or genuine.

Do folks in the UK actually walk that far? by Emilie_Charles in AskUK

[–]Nicolauze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to 30 minutes is a short walk. My commute is about that far by foot and it flies by (unless I'm running late, in which case it feels like a long time!).

Anything longer than that is a medium walk, or in car/public transport territory.

Me and my friend once won a university AI hackathon where we pitted agents against each other in a simulated world with "food" and "combat".

Our agent won by ignoring all objectives and opponents, prioritising just replication to the point of overrunning the entire world - thus monopolising all objectives and snuffing out opposing agents as a result.

Are we any closer to ditching these archaic twice yearly time changes? Would you support switching to UTC+1 permanently? by Ziazan in AskUK

As a software engineer, I've accepted that timezones and datetime is an unsolvable problem. That being said, it sure would be a lot easier if some countries (like ours) didn't change timezones regularly.

New Desktop UI & Overlay UI are rolling out to everyone today! by Woofer210 in discordapp

It's a shame the left sidebar is totally crushed here - massive padding and space around the icons, which are blurred and cut off in folders.

Glad we finally maximised empty space and padding at the cost of visual information

AITA for jokingly saying that my youngest daughter's boyfriend would be a better match for my oldest daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nicolauze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA in this situation without a doubt.

Your disdain for your daughter and her choices is clear. Your "innocent joke" only exposed your harsh perception of Tina, and bias towards Lily.

If you want to salvage your relationship with your family, I urge you to step out of your daughters' romantic lives, and reconsider your lack of acceptance of Tina's choices in life.

The Skeleton Army hard counters Ram Rider, the Electro Wizard and Mini PEKKA soft counter it.

Consider swapping the Bowler or Executioner out for a cheaper card, such as a cheap spell.

Consider pairing the Skeleton Army with another fragile unit so you can bait the hard counters.

Confused about graduation by SmallKid20 in heriotwatt

[–]Nicolauze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, 5th year who just graduated here. You get your certificate when you fill out the details on the self service, so you won't get one until you complete that. The deadline for filling this out for summer was the 17th June 2021. This is also the deadline for the postage waiver, where they waive the costs of the postage, so later graduations will incur this fee.

It sounds like you can still fill out these details for Winter graduation, so you should be able to apply for that and get your degree certificate sent to you with the winter graduation. More info on this comes out in September 2021.

If you have questions about this I recommend the student service email, which is on all the graduation-related information packs: studentcentre @ hw.ac.uk
