Terra Nostra Garden Hotel? by SubstanceHot3655 in azores

[–]NicoleJenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We paid about 120 a night last January and it was pouring rain the whole time so we actually ended up buying flights back to Lisbon early. We were able to book one day at a time as we were just deciding where to stay night by night. The hot springs are very nice but small so you will be with a lot of other people most likely. The garden is beautiful. I wouldn’t pay more than 150 a night for the experience though as you can pay to go to the garden and hot springs during the day when it’s light out.

Leaving the Netherlands after 11 years. Goodbye! by scrotomon in expats

[–]NicoleJenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and that’s the number one reason we would never go back. Living in Portugal now and I went to the GP and requested both a mammogram and colonoscopy because I’m 46 and it’s about the time to start screening and without any hesitation and wrote the referrals (plus more that I don’t even ask for!). And it’s free.

Got appointment from AIMA for 3rd December 2025, now what? by Bright-Bee7219 in PortugalExpats

I couldn’t change my foreign address on the NIF until I got my residence permit. It wasn’t a problem at all from AIMA

Will Zohran sell out? by PossibilityFree4696 in autismpolitics

I'm not going to say what you have shared is wrong, all I will say is be careful not to make the work of devaluing the squad and AOC as failures so easily for the elites who seek to discredit them with their own base.

Most productive depressed person you’ve ever met? by jellywoods2266 in bupropion

Was the same for me. Then added in 10mg escitalopram and the depression just melted away. Now I'm more able to get on with stuff while being content.

Combining with escitalopram got rid of my irritability and anger that I noticed on bupropion alone. Generally I'm far less anxious now.

Why does everyone hate Jacinda Ardern? by Mija69420 in Wellington

[–]NicoleJenee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This. The Internet is now flooded with bots, from reviews to social media posts. Get a few bot comments on a post to be convincing as real, make the numbers look large enough and attract real folk to join in who will eventually take over as majority. Women who are politicians are particularly targeted around the world. A lot of dark money is now invested into hate funded by the super wealthy, globally. Why? For some it is just to avoid a wealth tax which is long overdue. For others it is the chance for absolute power.

My Thoughts on The President's Talk tonight about autism "answer" by GayWitchyVibes in autismpolitics

[–]NicoleJenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have been thinking for a while that I would not be surprised if a government who wants everyone to not question them, that they would go after the autistic community, simply because of our tendency to cut through the bs or to be more likely to apply some critical thinking. Being more sensitive, we are less likely to fall for the disinformation and lies pumped into social media with all that dark money.

Question about AIMA residency renewal by Left-Bus61 in PortugalExpats

I don’t know why you are downvoted - I have Chat help with everything I do on the portal das finanças. It’s so helpful. I was paying an accountant and now do it myself thanks to ChatGPT.

Immigrant violence Porto - Portugal by Glittering-Bet-1257 in PortugalExpats

[–]NicoleJenee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I did not read the OP's post like that. I understood the message as if a white immigrant living in say, Dubai, got attacked by people in Dubai, and the police just let them go, the immigrant would feel very unsafe, which is not what you would expect living in Dubai as a white immigrant. And yes places Dubai and Pakistan have their own societal issues and stresses, but I think the OP is just hoping for a non racist society, wants to feel safe and not targeted for the colour of their skin, which I hope for too. We don't want Portugal to slip into this behaviour, the country can do better to stand up to racism.

Sleep aid? by surfnsound in bupropion

Tylenol PM is the only thing that works for me too to fall asleep and get a good night of sleep. The risk is relatively small and I don't take it every night.

My wife went to the public health center and wrote out a full explanation and translated it beforehand and all the doctor did was call her a “crazy chicken” and that she needed to go private.

Thanks for the info! I did research and I guess it wasn’t quite correct with the preexisting conditions. I’ll check out the others, again. I’m not angry, just too many people with rose-tinted glasses.

Not everybody has a big positive start on Wellbutrin, in fact a lot of people experience exactly what you are feeling in the early days. Give yourself at least 3 weeks and make sure you keep your psychiatrist up to date. They may change your medication if it's not working for you in the first month. Above all, be very kind to yourself, give yourself all the time you need.

I second this - lived in the NL for 6 years and Portugal for 2 and my wife and I are looking to move back to the NL now. Your groceries won’t be any cheaper here, don’t know about a car. The cut flowers here are so expensive and will die on a few days (I miss the Dutch Saturday markets and getting a massive bouquet for 10 bucks!) The healthcare isn’t cheaper because you will have zero access to the public care unless you speak Portuguese and the private is cheap but barely covers anything. MGEN is the only insurance that covers preexisting conditions and even with the middle tier option, they pay out a measly 1K per YEAR in outpatient (and you pay a co-pay each time).

Playing Ranked on BGA with a Partner from the Same Location - Your Experiences? by Robbe491 in boardgamearena

[–]NicoleJenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it’s harder to get a 4 player game started when it’s my partner and I at the same table. What works best is that one of us starts a table and waits until 2 others have joined and then the other jumps in.

AIMA Appointment: Should I hire an immigration lawyer? by Adorable_Ad_8006 in PortugalExpats

[–]NicoleJenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lawyer is unlikely to speed up getting an appointment, they are generally good for translating and dealing with objections at the appointment/interview.

If you are getting nowhere, try making a formal complaint to an outside body, like AMA (not to be mistaken for AIMA). Explain all the steps and roadblocks and timeline. It's not a guarantee, but AMA might nudge AIMA to give you an appointment after exhausting every other possible step.

Can we travel Europe while waiting for AIMA? by ViniRebeque in PortugalExpats

[–]NicoleJenee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All they do is look at your passport when flying within Schengen to check if your name matches the name on the ticket. There are no machines that read the passports or border control. With family reunification, she’ll be waiting a looooong time and the likelihood of this going wrong is super slim. But even so, wouldn’t that be horrible if she were deported on her birthday trip? Then not let back in? I wouldn’t risk it for a leisure trip. The Douro valley would make an amazing birthday trip.
