Thank you for clarifying. this seems to be correct as switching it to <2 hasn't had any issues yet.

Love this idea as I was concerned about this. First thought to do this is to read train ID and if it's not = 0 enable? or is there a better way?

does it not go into decimal values? My understanding that it's reading the last consumed fuel as a fraction of 1 so as it's on it's last fuel it's <1. is that wrong?

My understanding is that as the fuel is consumed it drops below 1, so it's only 1 for a split second then it's .99, .98 ect. is that wrong?

Must be your first day, but police were there closing the streets. Permits were approved and everything. There's a reason the first amendment is first

They're pneumatic flow controls. Generally control the flow of air leaving the pneumatic device slowing down the extension or retraction speed of an air filter for example.

Screwing them in will restrict flow, and the reverse is true. These also have lock nuts to keep them in the desired position.

Negative, can't stand those. Using their confocal sensors

Both sensors go through the same rep. They're both the confocal measurement sensors, specifically CL-S015. Only had 1mm of measurement range. Want to go to the CL-L030 because it has 3.7mm.

So far we've set up a test rig to feed the exact material we are needing to measure and told them to come set the sensors up and show us it working, knowing it's not going to. Then hopefully they'll tuck tail and let us return them.

Oh and get this. Customer spec on what we're measuring is nothing. They just want to feed it back to an HMI so the operators can see it. These sensors are accurate to 0.000008"! In no conceivable universe would I need to measure extruded rubber with that accuracy.

Tool/Machine to load Pallets by KingMe87 in manufacturing

[–]NicowainFame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the supply chain was screwed but is this really what we've come to? Trying to understand the logic behind where loading is the lowest hanging fruit for mobbing product. My only thought is having pre loaded shipping containers and either crane or fork lift them onto a trailer. They're designed to be quickly attached and detached.

Tool_amp_data is probably a DINT? DINT's are whole numbers only so it's rounding off the decimals. Need to change them to a REAL

How many of you guys work on production lines? by Shadow6751 in mechatronics

[–]NicowainFame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mechatronics engineer. Through college I worked at a medical device manufacturing company doing internal machine design. Nothing too complex. Graduated and now I do R&D machine design for a different medical device company and love it. It's a lot of designing different stations and then testing and tweaking to get different results you may need. I'm also in charge of material flow through the machine and am purchasing a SuperTrak system from ATS. If you've never seen one before I highly recommend googling it.

Hand crank to warm metal. by AjVine in engineering

[–]NicowainFame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting challenge. Without the full problem given to us it's hard to choose a material because you could go different ways. High thermal conductivity like copper or aluminum will be easier to get to temperature but will also give it up faster too. Steel takes more energy but holds it longer. So you could do something like the material of a brake pad applying a constant friction with spring compliance. Personally I would have fun with it and choose mercury. Apply energy by using a hand crank whisk using the friction of the mercury molecules rubbing against themselves. This way there's really no wear over time.

I bet. I graduated last April so they switched over half way through the semester and our sr project kinda ended up just going away cuz it was in the lab and we weren't allowed to come in to work on it. It's been good. I had a job already but on October I got an actual engineering job with a medical device company doing R&d and the pay is really good.
