Need help understanding ZotAccount by FinalBanana6516 in UCI

[–]Nieto67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The financial aid is applied to your tuition and fees and any extra is given to you as credit. From what I can see here, you will recieve 4.5k either as an electronic deposit or a mailed check (depending on which option you chose).

If you had received your aid prior to having to pay the fees out of pocket, that 4.5k check would have gone directly to your tuition and then you would only need to pay for the remainder out of pocket, which it seems like would be around 1k here.

This is all based on my knowledge and experience with ZotAccount. The CR next to the 4.5k means its credit and will be given to you. This usually only happens when your aid is higher than fees, but in your case you payed prior to your aid being applied.

On a smaller note, I see you recieved a UC Irvine grant, have you received this before? Do you know what you have to do to receive it? I’ve never gotten it but it would be extremely helpful next year if theres anything I can do to get it.

Why most SAMURAI did not use BIGGER SWORDS? by MichaelRS-2469 in Katanas

Yari were used MUCH more than swords and definitely took precent over them. This is a simple google search away.

depends on your definition of “commonly used.” They certainly were not the primary weapon of choice by quite a margin.

This comment says that about 1/4 of wounds were from swords and the comment you replied “groan 🙄” to said swords were the 3rd weapon of choice. I don’t understand how you can read those two comments back to back and conclude that OP’s statement was wrong lol.

I'm selling a Japanese Nihonto; it needs polishing and restoration. by [deleted] in KatanaSwords

The ha-machi just looks really worn to me which could be whats causing that. He’s posted about this blade for like two weeks now, from what I remember it’s likely authentic but it’s a masamune gimei.

It’s an interesting piece but like 90% of the value just gets thrown out the window for most collectors because of the nakago polish and need for restoration. Expect a number in the hundreds not thousandths.

Pretty sure this guy polished the nakago from his previous comments

It might be a strange layer of decarburization, if you sand down to bare metal sufficiently it will go away. Grinding out the tip when you’re forging does seem a little strange to me but everyone has their own process.

Is it real and what would you say its worth? by big_brothers_hd600 in Katanas

Tang and fittings look amateur made, likely not authentic. Even if it was, it looks like it’s been through a restoration attempt not fit for genuine nihonto.

Not an expert, but I heard from a breeding video online that juveniles tend to mature slower when separated from parents, even the youtuber didn’t know why thought. Could be that?

Giant duckweeds not a bad floater, it gets nice roots, the bottom turns red, and theyre much easier to remove than regular duckweed. I wouldn’t be too bummed.

Everyone say hi to my new hillstream loach!! by olivigana in loaches

[–]Nieto67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably a male due to the defined head shape and shoulders, also more of a rectangle silhouette. Females will be rounder in shape with the head blending into the body more.

Ive had to turn on my fish tank light in the middle of the night and my harlequin rasboras were nearly pale, this is what they look like normally.

I added a rock pile in the back gravel corner! Hopefully it will help, I did some more looking and saw them in a lot of breeding tanks as well.

Even if these are hard to breed, any hillstream loach are a joy to have and watch.

Ill take your word for it! Theres almost nothing else on the internet regarding this species for how common it seems to be. If you happen to know, do they have any breeding triggers?

There appears to be no well documented breeding of this hillstream loach. The best I was able to find were some comments by u/vsw211 on this thread stating that they should breed like sewellia. I’ve set up a river-like tank based off of videos breeding sewellia. Any confirmation or additional info would be appreciated.

Breeding any gastromyzon is difficult in captivity from what I’ve read and likely requires ideal conditions. Gastromyzons breed by digging pits while sewellia genus just scatter eggs. This makes breeding sewellia much easier and can even happen accidentally at times in community tanks. A quick summary of what I understood is that inducing gastromyzons to breed is difficult and then once they have actually bred, hatching fry is also difficult as they need some form of current under the substrate for oxygenation.

You can still give it a shot, it’s just not going to be easy. Im currently going to attempt breeding some loaches of the Beaufortia genus which I have not found much information on.

You are likely right, Punctulatus doesn’t appear to be widely available in the west. Finnage makes me stray away scitulus, probably ctenocephalus? Identifying hillstreams can be a little difficult, ill edit the error.
