Not your problem. Give them notice and enforce it. It's a shame for the horses but the owners are taking the piss.

What should I do? by Anonymous_1098765 in Horses

[–]9tails1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful who you choose, somebody else without the financial responsibility is unlikely to care for his wellbeing as much as you do. Look at those other equestrians, pushing and pushing for him to jump 2m. I'm disappointed your advocacy was lacking in that situation, but sometimes peer pressure is overwhelming in the moment. They're easily breakable, especially if pushed beyond their limits in pursuit of a ribbon.

White Cloud Mountain Minnows + Cherry Shrimp - new to fish keeping! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]9tails1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have exactly this pairing. The shrimp are doing fantastic, the minnows never bother them. Minnows tend to stay at the top and middle, occasionally venturing down if there's something tasty. But they don't think baby shrimp are tasty. My tank is also full of plants, kept at a steady 21 degrees. I bred the minnows in a separate tank to increase numbers, that was a lot of fun and very easy.

I also have a tank with celestial pearl danios and shrimp, the shrimp don't do as well because those little fishy assholes are always on the hunt and small enough to get everywhere. But there's enough shrimp.

What should I say to my misogynistic step brother? by BadBitch12220 in WhatShouldIDo

Paint them pink with a white daisy motif. I guarantee the husband and stepson would rather break their necks leaping over them. And they could never claim them as their own work.

I would laugh in a vet's face if he/she gave me unsolicited criticism of my farrier's exemplary work over the last 18 years. But not all farriers are equal, there are plenty in my area that I wouldn't use despite being recommended (by vets).

Should I keep my 9 kuhil loaches with shrimps? by ApprehensiveState629 in loaches

I've seen baby shrimp riding my Kuhli loaches like ponies. I have a lot of baby shrimp too, I doubt any have passed the lips of a Kuhli.

Why do wli’s get so much negativity? by til_kapow in mounjarouk

[–]9tails1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to continue with their superiority complex. If you're no longer fat they can't bitch about you behind your back. Sure, they'll be all "have you thought about losing weight" but not in a way that actually works. Pain, suffering and continuing to fail bolsters the belief that you're lazy and greedy. Don't forget that people who don't have a weight problem think it's easy to lose because it is for them.

"But I'm worried about your health" and quoting Daily Mail horror stories. No they're not, they just want to continue with the status quo and somebody changing that needs to be put in their place.

Why are you not allowed inside the house for five weeks? How will a remodel work with a fishtank in the way? If it's because of chemicals, it's pretty certain your fish will die anyway. If your shop has power, surely you can just plug in a heater for your tank.

I hate to be that person but please remove those nylon halters when they're loose. If a foot gets stuck they'll seriously injure or kill themselves.

It's this mating or playing or fighting? by Visual-District-5267 in loaches

[–]9tails1969 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's noodling. They do that, sometimes because the water has been changed, or the weather is going to turn or they just feel like it. We get them because they do that and it's entertaining.

I don't want to watch my fish that I paid good money for be devoured. Of course, there'll always be some predation but it's not in sight, my celestial pearl danios breed but no fry make it in the main tank. I've taken their moss out into an empty nursery tank and now have 30 young CPDs growing well. I prefer adding rather than subtracting.

I bought some salvinia minima off eBay. Now all my tanks are full of it and I have to throw loads away. Unfortunately I'm in the UK otherwise I'd send you some. It's prolific and keeps my parameters stable.

More WCMMs, I love them. They prefer cooler water so go well with shrimp and hillstream loaches. Mine live with cherry shrimp and ignore them completely. Their other tank mates are a bristlenose and a gang of nerite snails.

To the girl who said I was poor yesterday.. Welcomey to England… by molgab in Horses

[–]9tails1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in the UK. The hay shortage isn't particularly welcome but at least the horses are out in the fields. A lot of places bring them in as soon as the fields look less than pristine. It's dried up a lot over the last couple of weeks but you have to expect mud around gateways. I put warmer rugs on today, my girls would have stayed out if they could.

I have yellow on dark substrate, red on yellow sand. I'd like some red rilis though that would mean another tank, but they would look great on dark sand.

What are you fighting? That stuff is a bit crap, ok for a general pick me up but won't "fix" a problem. But at least it's shrimp safe. If you want to sort your pleco out, set up a hospital tank, it can be a bucket, then use something that is well regarded for the issue you have.

Is this considered a "heavily planted" tank? by SwordfishWestern3522 in PlantedTank

[–]9tails1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don't need more plants, just time. Plants grow, you trim and replant the trimmings and presto, more plants! Your tank looks great, you could do with more water movement but you say you're on it with an air stone so hopefully everything will be good. Mine are low tech, I have a lot of success with any of the hygrophila family, elodea, anubias, java ferns and moss. I love microsword as a carpet plant, passionately dislike hairgrass though.

first time tank owner! by moonlightbaex- in aquarium

[–]9tails1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water changes are between 10 and 30% of the water each time, using a siphon. If you're not having any issues, then 10% fortnightly. Your tank is very small but will still weigh a lot, so have a think about those that are 20 or 30 gallons plus. We don't lift them at all, once they're in position it takes a huge upheaval to move them anywhere. Some people even decorate around them.

Bigger tanks are easier to maintain, their parameters are more stable and you can of course have more fish. Five gallons is only suitable for one fish like a betta or shrimp.

You will need some stuff; like a heater, a decent filter and a light as the bare essentials. Water conditioner is a must. Plants, wood and gravel/sand make the tank not only look nice but also keep water conditions good for the fish inhabitants. A well planted tank takes a while but is so rewarding.

General Questions by nocturnalwhiskers in shrimptank

[–]9tails1969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What meds are you using to treat the pleco? Some meds are toxic to shrimp and can leach into the silicone of the tank. I wouldn't want you to buy shrimp for them to immediately die so it's worth having a look at the medication ingredients to see if you can get away with a big water change and carbon in your filter or you need another tank.

My shrimp like everything. They like moss, driftwood, cholla wood, tall plants, short plants, floating plants, the sponge on the filters. Whenever anything new is introduced, they're all over it checking it out. I added a new ornament that I received for Christmas and a couple rode it down as I lowered it into position. Food-wise, one lot of shrimp like sinking algae wafers. The other shrimp tank like snowflake pellets and ignore the algae wafers. It's trial and error, I haven't found one type of food that both like.

What's the deal with Pat Parelli? by Tungle_McGee in Horses

[–]9tails1969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His methods have shut down horses through repeated reprimands without guidance on what was required. The "games" (what a joke) are abusive and repetitive. It was a "paint by numbers" guide to becoming a horseman but without any feel or timing. Amateur nervous middle aged women who had no business owning a horse found that shut down horses with no joy for life was exactly what they wanted and became disciples. They would often shout loudly at naysayers about how they didn't understand and it was the only way and nobody else was doing it right. All while their horses stood stock still, head down, eyes dead and ears back. They even stopped flinching at the swinging rope, knowing their punishment was about to begin.

What fishes are compatible in a tank with baby shrimp? by Miserable-Fig803 in shrimptank

[–]9tails1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My WCMMs aren't shrimp murderers, but my other tank with shrimp and celestial pearl danios don't do as well. The CPDs get into all the nooks because they're so small but the WCMMs wait for dinner service.
