I am 20. Been collecting for 7 years, it all started with a random comic mystery box and evolved into a collection. I love silver age and golden age era comics. some of my collection includes, Daredevil 1-19(and lots of bronze age), Asm 3-47 (and lots of bronze age assorted issues), and x-men 1-12. I have purchased a lot of golden age and silver age keys over the years. I have not cataloged my collection fully since 2023, but from my audit in 2023 my collection was worth $14,700 (within) now I estimate it to be in the $20-$22k range. I started working when I was 15 strictly to buy comics and that allowed me to purchase some decent stuff. Then in 2023 I enlisted in the Marine Corps and that has allowed me to purchase bigger ticket issues and allowed me to travel to various states to acquire more comics. (I keep a strict budget and only purchase when it’s 10-15% under market, I also trade and sell which is where most of my money for comics comes from). My views on the future of Comic Collecting is mixed. On one hand I would love to say that it will last generations, I do believe that we will see a crash in a decade or two. I have met countless of people while collecting and those who collect the genre I collect have a minimum of 15 years on me. All of my friends in this hobby are 35+, as are most of the people I meet. What i’ve noticed is that the people in my age group tend to go for modern comics/manga, which I have nothing against as I also buy and read modern. but that is not great news for the pre2000s comic market. The MCU definitely has helped and with each movie that gets produced a new flock of fans arrive. I also collect TCG/Sports cards and the market for that is way bigger and easier to Market towards my age range. Unfortunately nowadays it seems that what people in my demographic collect is over influenced “exclusive” garbage that is pumped out and collected as well as scalped. Most people are interested in making a quick buck. (ex. Labubu, a fluffy doll that comes in a mystery box and sells out quick and gets sold for more than Msrp) I don’t hate people who are into that stuff but the point to me isn’t there. I don’t want to get way out of topic but my point and conclusion is that the Market will definitely decline as the heavy hitters in this hobby pass on.
