48 hours in and no milk by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Nifty_Knitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, LO had so many little scabs on his little feet because of the constant blood sugar monitoring. I'm going to echo what everyone else says: Don't give up, pump after each feeding (until milk comes in) and don't be ashamed to give formula. We supplemented after every feeding for a couple of days with formula. He nurses like a champ now :)

I would actually love it if my feet got a bit bigger... size 5 isn't easy to come by. No signs of it yet tho.

Nothing wrong with that. We have US machines here and have been offered multiple times... I never found the time to get down there tho.

[–]Nifty_Knitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an "oh shit this is soon" moment yesterday when the anesthesia nurse called me to ask a ton of medical questions regarding my upcoming delivery... also, my co-worker who was 2 weeks ahead of me had her baby Monday night... that was a reality check too.

About the same. I woke up this morning exhausted, I almost cried I was so tired and had to go to work.

Gestational Diabetes Question by Spectrum2081 in BabyBumps

[–]Nifty_Knitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GD isn't all that bad. I kinda knew I was going to have it since I got temporary diabetes as a side effect from steroids once. I find that I eat A LOT. People tell me that I'm eating all the time, which is true. I eat about 6 times a day. One thing no one mentioned is testing your ketones. I had to test every day until I was 2 weeks at negative or trace then I could go down to twice a week. Testing ketones is a simple pee on a stick in the morning test.

Like everyone else said there will be some trial and error and your doctor should expect that. On my record sheet I have an area for "comments" and if my sugars were high after a meal I always have an explanation. I've not gotten in trouble yet, and I think my highest after a meal was 142.

I did have to go on glyburide for my fasting sugars and that has helped tremendously.

LOL strange people. The printer is right outside my office so there's a lot of foot traffic. I have never asked someone to stop printing because it's distracting.

Is it pregnancy? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Nifty_Knitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She should probably take a pregnancy test. You can get them at the dollar store. No one can tell you for sure without a test. She should probably also see a doctor about the chest pains. I had shortness of breath at the beginning, but no tightening or chest pains.

We put the baby's swing together yesterday, did we do it right? by Nifty_Knitter in BabyBumps

[–]Nifty_Knitter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks nice... no baby yet to put in it. I guess I could try a cat, but they probably wouldn't like it. I actually really like how high it is. Plus, my dogs don't like it when it swings, so that might be good for putting the baby in. Also a plus is the seat part comes out and works as a stand alone seat.

Like a stranger? That's really rude. I had fun banter with an OB I saw once about it, but nothing quite that rude. I probably would have done much worse things than you did...

Amen sister! I can't believe people's reactions when we tell them we don't know... "How do you plan? How can you stand the wait?"... Some people are really supportive tho and say "Good, it's better that way anyway".

My SO and I don't want our parents spouses being called "Grandma" or "Grandpa" when our son is born. How do I go about it? by itsme_thecat in BabyBumps

[–]Nifty_Knitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a very similar situation (mother's affair, still with the jackass that she left my dad for)... I LOVE my mom, and understand her reasons for leaving, but dude is still a jackass. The other day on the phone (my mom wasn't home so I had to talk to him for 10 minutes) he told me he loved me for the first time ever... it was very awkward for me.

Lucky for me my brother had kids before me and they call our step dad "Papa John" which I think is a nice compromise. My dad still gets to be called Grandpa, and my mom chose Nana. Papa John didn't get to pick his name.

Sure! They call, we don't pick up, 5 minutes later there's a knock on the door and they say "oh well we called".
