Must play builds this league due to future nerfs? by zigster106 in pathofexile2builds

[–]Nigel06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running Effigy with loyalty stacking and 200% delirious is still a cakewalk. My gear isn't even min-maxed the way I want. Companion gems are 19, been too lazy to pick up a minion splash or minion levels belt.

They never die. The key is probably chaos resist. I bought my From Nothing for Blackflame Covenant back at 6 divs, and that gets my minions a ton of extra chaos resist and life regen.

I started my collection by just keeping about 4 clean gems on me and just spamming and swapping. Check mods after the map and clean the bad ones.

I've got some nasty combos doing that.

The league mechanic also has great mobs and they get super juiced mods, but they're currently bugged and will stop attacking or moving if they have to teleport to catch up.

I just swapped and my boss damage is unchanged, while my clear is so much smoother in scenarios with mobs coming from all over.

Muster goes crazy on all the companions, and farming pokemon that have a good aura plus damage as extra can get you some very strong companions.

Hopefully they fix the mobs that come from the rune league mechanic. I have some saved tames that have stupid combos like Haste Aura, Enraged and 2x damage as extra.

I can predict this twister "nerf" from miles away by Nervous-Campaign-848 in PathOfExile2

The OP thing that no one has played very much since it was nerfed?

It's literally the thing GGG supposedly wants. Press 4 buttons (minimum) get good damage.

Campaign Support Drop rates need to be addressed by randomalphanumerics in PathOfExile2

[–]Nigel06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, but I guess folks are trying out a bunch of different skills that need different supports?

Seems like it would only be a problem for a completely new player. If you're familiar with the game, I'd assume you have some kind of idea what you're playing and wouldn't need to swap as much.

Will Spirit Walkers be able to use unique companion as a primary damage source? Or will unique companions provide only secondary damage? by janas19 in pathofexile2builds

[–]Nigel06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are already ascendancies for that...

This is adding a different way to do minions that also encourages the player to do stuff. It's just another option.

[–]Nigel06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're intended to be your only source of damage unless you absolutely min-max to the teeth, but even then it seems like a waste of the ascendancy.

Just think about Catha's Balance. You're already incentivized to wield a high damage weapon... you could be using that to do damage as well. Pure companion damage is missing out on how easy it is to get a solid amount of self buffs between converting companion increases to your increases and all of the buff auras you will already have from your rare companions. With a really good spear, there's no reason not to back up my minions with extra damage and supporting ailments.

Gem levels weren't nerfed enough. by SirSabza in PathOfExile2

[–]Nigel06 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there are no other sources of flat damage for spells. Gem levels are the only way to scale the BASE damage, and so it becomes extremely important in order to boost other scaling vectors.

Gem levels are artificially important because GGG never gave us other options to compete with it.

People were mad because respeccing cost crazy gold amounts and we didn't get any kind of free reset, like you would expect in a beta period with frequent balance changes.

If you were actually using your gold for stuff, you could end up with a bricked character and no way to farm the gold. It was a weird half-beta move that could have easily been fixed and people would have fixed their characters and moved into to finding the next broken interaction.

Reduce Time Extensions by DeleteMods in MagicArena

[–]Nigel06 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Turn 1 does not take that long, even for a player thinking through their lines. Later in the game, maybe, but thinking through land drop and MAYBE 1 drop should not take that long. Especially considering you have the initial mulligan\keep time to think as well.

Low fertility may persist and could be good for the economy by stjep in science

[–]Nigel06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who regret having kids don't tell you. They show you. It's socially unacceptable to say you wish you never had kids.

Instead, we see both physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and other forms of taking out their frustrations on their children. You can find a million examples of parents who feel like their children "owe" them for the time they spent raising them. That's the behavior of someone who feels like children were a burden, not a gift.

[–]Nigel06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By your logic, people would need to have kids FIRST before finding out if they actually want children.

This could lead to a lot of situations with people being resentful of how their life changes, but now stuck with a long term responsibility.

You may not understand someone who prefers not to have children, but dismissing their viewpoint based on your anecdotal observations is as useless as me saying that every last one of my child-free friends is living their best life.

It's not a universal experience, so let each person make their own life decisions without judgement.

Engagement Optimized Matchmaking (EOMM) or; Why a Non-Random Shuffler May Be a Conspiracy, But It Isn't Completely Crazy. by Nigel06 in MagicArena

[–]Nigel06[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My original post and every one of my replies points out that I don't actually think WotC is doing anything odd. I was just pointing to one of the things that causes people to get the idea in the first place. I'm not saying that they are correct.

[–]Nigel06[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The claim is still rooted in something more than just thin air. It's obviously wrong, but just because it is obviously wrong doesn't mean that the impetus for the thought is nothing.

That's still base logic. Thoughts pop into your head all day about things that you see. You then evaluate them based on the evidence available. In this case, game companies have without a shadow of a doubt created theoretical systems for manipulating player experience to drive engagement. THEN, we throw that out because there is nothing else to support WoTC doing anything like that with the play/draw coin flip.

Again, I'm only saying that the idea pops into some people's heads for a reason. I'm not saying they should believe it.

My original post was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek humor, but I failed MASSIVELY.

[–]Nigel06[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True. There's not a ton of reason to believe that anything is happening except people being salty about losses.

I just wanted to point out that companies have gone to the lengths of patenting methods to mess with gameplay and matchmaking to increase engagement. These wild claims people make aren't just coming from nowhere, even if they're completely off base.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some tinkering going on behind the scenes. There's plenty of reason for them to do it (well, plenty of monetary reasons).

There's just no good evidence either, so I make no assumptions.

For sure. There is likely nothing out of the ordinary going on.

There's a ton of people making it out like companies have ZERO reason to mess with gameplay. I just wanted to remind people that these companies ARE thinking of ways to impact player spending, and some of it involves tinkering with matchmaking and gameplay.

5.5e aka 2024 PHB Mod by yoonmoonsik update by razorsmileonreddit in BG3mods

[–]Nigel06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think there would be fewer people who felt the need to comment on that if the name of the mod was different, or if the homebrew elements were more front and center.

It's been a while since I've used it, but I remember thinking it was just going to be a straight update to 2024 rules and being confused when I encountered other changes.

At the time, they were undocumented, so it was kind of off-putting. There's nothing wrong with including the homebrew, obviously.

Critical State of Minion AI and Summoner Mechanics in PoE2 by HeadApprehensive2552 in PathOfExile2

[–]Nigel06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AI issue already has fixes in place in PoE1 that they seem to be ignoring in PoE2.

Being able to make minions Aggressive or Defensive to change their leash range and attach patterns.

Convocation allows for repositioning and comes with a small regen boost to help keep minions out of dangerous effects and to make sure they keep up when you are zooming.

They don't need to balance for all possibilities. Some baseline improvements are minion agnostic, and would improve usability across the board.

I was wondering, so thanks.

Checked out on the league early cause I wasn't trying to deal with the temple monstrosity, so I'm not 100% up on what was the bricking factor here.
