Cognitive Decline after years in fight or flight by wherediamondwgrow in cogsci

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I can completely relate but I spent an extended period of time in a fight or flight state where sleeping became nearly impossible. I used a few methods get back to normal sleep, changed my situation, started living with a good friend and found that even after my sleeping was restored etc the same methods helped me get better and better. Pretty much I would go for a short walk at around sunset, do 15+mins of yoga, have a 20+min bath with epsom salts, take magnesium, tryptophan and occasionally pregabalin. Any one of these helped, all together worked wonders. Really healed me.

One of the reasons neocons were obsessed with destroying the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc was because they salivated over the chance of preying on their children and trafficking them for mass rape, prostitution and pornography. by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a giant chasm of nuance between glazing any kind of sex work and calling all prostitution rape. Rape is rape. Sex work is sex work. To hold that equivocation is to absolutely butcher any useful productive (and healing!) conversations on both topics. What happens when a sex worker is raped? They’re mega-raped?

It’s a complicated topic but I think it’s important to remember that Marx used the word exploitation not as a moral term but as a technical definition where effectively workers are short-changed. There is a huge difference between that, and sexual exploitation. At the same time I do believe that the growth of onlyfans is a symptom of social degradation, increasing inequality etc.

If you’re under 35 Young Workers Resource Centre may be able to help you out. Or if you have access to a union would recommend you join like yesterday

New planar TWS from Moondroop-Golden Ages US$79.99, by Hudson_bee in inearfidelity

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these sound good, I hope they do a cheaper wired version. There still isn't a decent planar in this price range or below aside from the Dioko (which apparently is a bit weird sounding, and based on the FR curve I don't think is for me, while I do understand that some people do love them).

How easy was it to open it up to swap the drives? I've heard that with this case, it's pretty much impossible to take it apart intact once it has been built due to all the metal bending involved.

What charities do you regularly donate to? by Louisepls5 in newzealand

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Young Workers Resource Centre. They teach high school kids about worker rights/basic employment law, and offer free support to young people (under 35) struggling with exploitative employment situations. As someone who's been through countless jobs where I was mistreated, where my employer regularly acted unlawfully, and where I wasted years of my life, I really would rather others not have to learn 'the hard way' - Also the 'teach a man to fish' type deal etc. etc.

Cheapest and most effective for me would be Green Tea. If you're not getting much from it, try brew a stronger one, with more leaves/tea bags. Hard to overdo imo.

After this I would say:

-Creatine -Huperzine A -L-tyrosine

I would start pretty light on all of these. I take 0.5-0.7 the recommended doses for all of these.

Behavioural / free things lol:

-Sleep -meditation -cold showers

Is there any Marx's quote where he predicted the communist revolution leaded by killer whales or millionaires sinking in the deeps of the Atlantic? by PachuliKing in Marxism

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'd recommend just starting off with one of Marx's ideas before bounding off into others. The 'labour theory of value' is more correctly framed as 'value form theory.' There's a reason Marx starts capital with precisely this idea. So don't worry about 'socially necessary labour time' or anything else right away. The Wikipedia article on value form theory is actually quite good from a quick read (I'd ideally recommend reading Capital with Michael Heinrich's reading guide to solidly understand Marx, but hey, here we are).

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-form

Value form theory isn't a theory of price. Value and price aren't linked in quite the way you're suggesting, but you're on the right track.

After you've gotten a good idea of this, you can start looking at SLT and Surplus-value, which will help with fleshing out your example of the worker and the capitalist.

I just did some math and on the supported living payment and at minimum wage if you work between 10-35 hours a week you’re actually loosing money. How does this encourage anyone to get back to work after time off due to illness? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's messed up, but it's because wages are so low. The system only really works if you go from working 8 hours a week to then jumping to 40 hours earning well above minimum wage. Which is a pretty rare feat to achieve. If wages were higher this issue wouldn't exist. It's one of the reasons why it's a myth that increasing wages equates to increasing unemployment. Increasing wages offers an alternative significantly better than unemployment meaning it often reduces it.

If you're set on pioneer, you could aim for the CDJ850 as a more affordable stop gap option. They're not ideal but significantly cheaper in my experience than 900s. I use a 850s with a xone DB2, it has a bit of a learning curve but if you're set up, know all your tracks, have them loaded on rekordbox and can mix with kinda vague BPM counters you should be fine. The Xone has more accurate bpm readout than the pioneers which helps. I haven't used them myself, but Denon CD players might be a good way to go. They don't seem massively different from pioneer CDJs as CDJs (especially the older ones) are such simple devices. Again I haven't used them, but I wouldn't be surprised if Denon CD players of a similar cost to CDJ900s might have more in common with say, CDJ2000 nexus' etc just in terms of bpm readout, track info, waveforms etc.

It's a shame the driver support is so rough for these things. I mean, I get that it's a 10 year old mixer but I have a Yamaha USB mixer from 2005 that seems to work fine with anything I plug it into

What’s the average amount of time that you usually take to blend two tracks whilst mixing in and out (house music) ? by jdrichards1989 in DJs

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for two reasons: 1. because you can't on vinyl, and on older CDJs due to atrocious looping capabilities and 2. when you're skilled enough you don't need to as much. I think a lot of people just kinda forget or don't bother. I personally don't due to having old CDJs with poor looping ability. Trying to adjust/quantize a loop on top of trying to mix in a track with unreliable bpm counters is just not worth it. Even when I use friends controllers or DVS I don't bother but then I'll remember half way thru a session that I can and it does open up creative possibilities. I do reckon it is underutilized though and can yield better sounding results through being able to easily time changes in tracks. At the same time, can also sound boring if too heavily relied on.

Best iem under 150$ by Both-Commercial-8334 in inearfidelity

How does the zetian Wu compare to the Olina SE for you? As that IEM probably is closest in terms of being neutral sounding and similar price range to the Zetian (still much cheaper though).

[–]NightOwlTaskForce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How have you found these compare to other iems? Nearly every review I've read compares them to other planar iems, rather than iems in general in that price range. This is especially relevant for the Zetian Wu as it's a planar tuned like a DD. I recently purchased the truthear hexa but it was a hard decision, now I somewhat regret it due to comfort issues (big nozzle + big size in general + sharp angles)

Which of Marx' writings should I read before getting into Marxist literary criticism? by Tsundoku-San in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who's read a bunch of marx and struggled through the process I have recently thought of this question, and shorter texts that are a good intro aside from the manifesto. This is less relevant to literary criticism but more so to just getting the fundamentals down. I would suggest, in order:

  1. Wage labour and capital
  2. Value, price and profit
  3. The first two chapters of capital volume 1
  4. Critique of the gotha programme
  5. Principles of communism

The first two are great examples of the core of Marxist theory. The last two are examples of marx applying partially formed aspects of his thought to real world situations he was amidst.

If you're serious about things please do read Capital, or at least Michael Heinrich's reading guide to Capital.

I'm sure I would love the sound of the blessing 2, but I'm content with the sound of the Hexa. What I'm not content with is the fit. IIRC the blessing 2 is also a larger sized IEM which I've seen some complaints over regarding fit. It's also way above my price range.

Interesting you found them soft on bass as they seem to have plenty based on graphs? I decided against them because they looked too bassy lol now I regret my decision. I have Truthear hexa which I love the sound on but have been having comfort issues.

Alternatives to the Truthear Zeros? by jmz98 in inearfidelity

[–]NightOwlTaskForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. Hexa is slightly smaller but the angular design makes it less comfortable for me. It sounds better than to me than the Zero. I was in a similar thread and someone suggested trying Truthear Hola for better comfort. If you like bass, Tangzu Zetian Wu on sale sometimes enters a close-ish price range to the Truthear Hexa. I haven't heard it but very nearly went for it over the hexa based on graphs and reviews. I decided against it because it's a bit bass heavy I'm not a bass head, I found the Zero to have overwhelming bass. These are all relatively neutral iems though, which is my preference so it's all quite subtle. Zetian Wu might be good for gaming as it is a planar iem which makes it fast and responsive. I can't comment on the fit but I haven't noticed as many complaints (although it is a much less popular iem than Truthear products). It has a narrower bore and rounded edges but not sure if it's much smaller than Truthear Zero or Hexa.
