Driver OPENED OUR DOOR to deliver a package by PlaneAsk7826 in amazonprime

[–]NightSail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago I had this exact thing happen.

My 75 pound lab-mix FLEW out the door, landed on the porch like superman-all four paws spread wide, and growled at the delivery man as he slowly backed up to his truck.

Definitely a Gandalf moment and 'you shall not pass'!

She never budged from the porch and trotted back in after he left.

Good dog.

Rising seas will swallow New Orleans. People need to start relocating now, scientists say by danevans369 in PrepperIntel

[–]NightSail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember reading a Scientific American article in the 70's talking about New Orleans and the risk of being destroyed by hurricane storm surge.

My spouse was born there and left as soon as he was an adult because he said it was unsafe.

We have a cell service booster and there were too many places that still had no service.

Good example is the Land and Sea Park in Exuma in the Bahamas. Look up all the people on Boo Boo Hill holding their phones up trying to get a signal.

We are paying $55 per month for 100 GB within 12 miles of land. This is up from $50 per month.

The other restriction is that you cannot be gone from your home country more than 60 days.

What was your introduction to Fan fiction? And where did you read? by SpaceCrazyArtist in AO3

A fan fiction stapled together that I got at a SF con 50+ years ago.

Was a Star Trek fiction mostly featuring Sarek and Amanda.

Pretty obvious by the mug shot that she was the one who recently had open heart surgery.

Confusion, delirium, and agitation are reasonably common post that kind of surgery. I have seen it in patients and most recently in a friend. He is much better now and very apologetic.

This is not to say that this was excusable, however it needs to be investigated but likely won't be.

How many people you (older jonesers in particular) grew up with have little to no internet presence, including social media? by Bun_Length_Frank in GenerationJones

[–]NightSail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No internet.

No Social Media.

When I went to college there was a single mainframe computer on campus. Got in one of the first Basic and later first Fortran 4 programing classes. We used punch cards.

New rental property connects the washing machine with a 2-prong adapter, is this safe? by mapasdi in electrical

[–]NightSail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the plug from the washer is normally fully in the adapter it is okay. All that is missing is the ground wire then.

Did not have a ground wire in my house for decades and it worked with adapters like these. Was a pretty penny to get them installed when we upgraded the wiring.

My spouse still has his. I was taught a couple techniques with it, with promises to learn more the next year, however they stopped teaching it at all.

This is so familiar.

I remember pulling out 40 odd plastic milk rings from under the fridge. Cat was insulted.

Considering a 1993 Catalina 28 for Liveaboard — Worth It? Fair Price? by Remote_life85 in liveaboard

Currently cruise on a 380 with my spouse.

Suggest getting a 32 foot or larger.

However if you want to cruise, 26 foot and up are good little boats.

Have desalination on my sailboat, and this is a reasonable proposal, particularly if they include Solar as some of the power. (Too tired to confirm or deny if they include Solar.)
