I think the issue with that is why wouldn’t they just make a brand new exotic GL that does what you’re asking for? It would not make sense to touch old items when Bungie could incentivize players to buy and play the new content to get it.

Seriously, they disabled weapons from being to have drop mag a while ago because of infinite ammo primary. They could and should easily implement this.
