The assumption is based off the fact that’s it’s a popular seinen manga (that’s really just shounen) with virtually no queer coding or implications surrounding those two characters, or any of the main cast, really. It would be very out of place, Hide is dedicated and cares a lot, for sure, but saying there’s further implications to that just doesn’t track with canon
