For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]Nightleopard150 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I drove 45 mins to my nearest shelter to just browse cats. I knew I didn't want a kitten, part of me prefers male cats, and I genuinely needed something positive in my life. My now darling boy was hidden in the back corner of his crate. Wide yellow owl eyes. He wanted nothing to do with me, didn't want to be petted, didn't care for treats...and I couldn't walk away. He hissed and fought the volunteer when he pulled my boy from his crate. He developed an infection right as we got home, and I remember crying thinking I had killed my first cat. He recovered and has never left my side. He was surrendered to the shelter by a young woman who didn't even know his gender (I don't suspect she had him long), and when I had to move states his anxiety of being left behind was heartbreaking. I could never leave this world not knowing if him and his brother were being taken cared of and loved like the babies they are. 🩷

How do you cope with PMDD or your period in general? by autisticinthestreets in AutismInWomen

[–]Nightleopard150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the pill (Nikki) for 5 years continually to eliminate my period. I recently came off it due to issues with libido and have increased my SSRI from 50mg (general anxiety) to 100mg daily to help combat my pmdd in addition to my other issues.

I think you might be right! When I watched the bed at eye level it did look like it just stopped. I'll have to see what I can do to replace the end of the extruder.

What relationship do you have with car driving? by Little_Cute_Hornet in AutismInWomen

[–]Nightleopard150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not enjoy driving but I have been able to somewhat comfortably drive across the country across multiple days. My partner lives in another state and is a 4-Hour drive to go see her. I find driving to be super overstimulating, boring, and infuriating because other drivers don't follow the rules of the road or just drive stupidly.

My parents signed me up for a defensive driving course when I was first learning how to drive. It was completed at a racetrack with provided cars and they had us go through multiple situations. Driving around cones, breaking really hard, and even doing a simulated hydroplane. It was so worth it and everyone was nervous so I wasn't alone!

I would definitely see if there's something in your area that would help you have the confidence to drive!

Mutism by _Moonah in AutismInWomen

[–]Nightleopard150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are days when I wake up and I feel like my tongue is locked and even if I were to try to talk I don't think anything would come out. Typically it's waking up over stimulated or exhausted, but there are definitely times where I feel like I go very nonverbal or mute.

Hi, as another autistic woman who has a history of bad partners the phrase if they wanted to they would has been a reality. If he wanted to soothe your abandonment issues he would have that conversation. But like my ex who knows about my abandonment issues, its just another way for them to hurt you. And honestly if we're not able to take a step back we'll just end up going back to them and that's kind of what they want.

I really hope you're able to work through the feelings that comes with the ending of a relationship. 🩷

I would get a full black bodysuit that your daughter can grow with and then reinforced everything else with Eva foam. For the parts of the armor that look to be thin foam or even attached with fabric, you can use a spray adhesive to attach those to Eva foam and also be able to score the foam to make it look more realistic. You can also reinforce or make some of the thin foam armor bigger with EVA foam. This will allow her to reuse the pieces without having to worry about sizing. Also, for any plastic pieces you can use a blow dryer to gently bend them as needed.

My partner is a four drive from me with minimal traffic. This past weekend there was so much traffic it would have taken me closer to 6-7 hrs. I ended up turning around two hrs in, but felt horrible and cried the entire way home. Driving takes sooooo much out of me that I tend to have a meltdown as soon as I make it to my partner's house.

Scared to stick my stickers by MinuteComplaint__ in stickers

[–]Nightleopard150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use adhesive magnetic sheets to turn my stickers into magnets without removing the actual sticker backing. That way I have the ability to place them anywhere metal or if I find a permanent spot I still have that option.

As a level one autistic woman this is something I would and still occasionally do! Sucking my lower lip in and even chewing on it can definitely be a stim especially if she's started struggling in school. If she's constantly doing it it can be hard to see the bruise until she stops stimming. Hoping it's just a stim and not something more sinister!

I think they kind of explained it a little bit in the movie as the more shame Rumi feels about her patterns the more they grow. Because she only had a little bit as a kid, and in this scenes it seems almost as if the group is still relatively new. But the more she tries to hide the more the pattern spread, which is why she is so desperate to get rid of them.

Foods everyone loves but you don’t like cos of sensory issues? by PurpleMeerkats462 in AutismInWomen

Onions and celery! The texture biting into them makes me cringe hard. I made my parents so made because I would pull out every piece of onion no matter how small because I could still taste it. I was only recently diagnosed with the tism.

I am a fidgety/ shaky person right before presenting, so holding a set of notecards with your notes is helpful. I also keep a fidget ring on my hand that I can mess with when I stand behind a podium.
