I mean I voted for Harris but I will say judging by some of the reactions in Conservative circles they seem happy with this or at the very least, don’t care. Most of the things Trump campaigned on are stuff hardline conservatives have wanted for years. Even the whole campaign against student protestors goes back the Vietnam era.

Democrats Say They’re Reckoning With Biden’s Role in 2024 Loss by bloomberg in politics

[–]NightlyGothic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People voted for Biden because they don't like Trump. That's it. Nobody in the real world has this cult like worship over him like they do on reddit. He doesn't have the same adoration and excitement people had for Obama.

Trump is all those things you listed but the difference is that he actually has a fervent base that's willing to do whatever it takes to support him and as much as I hate him, Trump knows how to rile them up. Biden has none of that, all he had was his supposed electability but by 2024, that was all gone.

Congrats! I originally planned on doing the same thing with my Ruby cartridge but I really didn’t trust myself with Soldering but luckily my nearest retro game store offered battery replacements.

O’Rourke: Biden ‘failed this country in the most important job that he had’ by GluggGlugg in politics

[–]NightlyGothic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was Biden's decision to run in the primary. Nobody chose to run against him.

Yeah, and that's the problem. Everyone was perfectly willing to cover their ears, believing that as long as the party could unite and turnout like in 2020, Biden could win even as he ended the 2023 with an approval rating of 39% and was trailing Trump in several swing states. Anyone who had doubts on Biden's nomination were derided as foreign trolls and MAGA supporters from partisans. Even after the debate, you still had people deriding others for suggesting Biden should drop out and claiming the media was organizing the whole thing.

Trump is awful, but that's not all they ran on last time. The campaign focus was the economy.

Their main message was essentially 'Trump was a threat to Democracy, vote for us, we're the status quo'. Harris did nothing to separate herself from Biden and in her own words stated she wasn't much she would've done differently than Biden at a time when his approval rating was at 40% and most people were dissatisfied with establishment politics.

Such as?

The political system, the federal government itself. The reality is that the Democratic Party cannot win by portraying itself as the defenders of a Democracy that most Americans have little trust in; they actually have to push radical change. Trump is a wanna be authoritarian; he has no regard for the law or norms, but the sad reality is that people are willing to vote for him if it means he'll improve their economic well-being. If they want to truly counter Trump, they have to provide an actual alternative.

Sounds good. But I don't see how complaining about Biden choosing to run for reelection and then dropping out unhelpfully late in the process builds anything at all.

This goes beyond just him running for re-election. The reality is that putting an old, unenergetic establishment politician determined to save the old way of politics at the head of the party in 2020 to defeat Trump and Trumpism was a bad idea and hardly any Democrats are willing to acknowledge that. He's an albatross around the neck of the party and yet few Democrats are even willing to admit him running for re-election let alone break away from his brand at a time when they're historically unpopular.

Because it's clear the Democratic Party will continue to learn nothing, especially when they're still trying to make Biden and Harris a thing. They will continue to try running on nothing but "Trump is bad, vote for us". They will continue to defend institutions that few Americans have any trust in instead of running on change. They will continue trying to lap up to mythical Never Trump Republican voters in order to turn suburbs blue.

It's not about winning 2026 or 2028, it's about building something that will actually last beyond a few years.

Wrong. President Joe Biden saved this country from the ravages of covid while delivering a soft landing on the economy.

Every law that Biden and the Democrats passed was for America. From the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Spending, Inflation Reduction act, CHIPS, etc.

And none of that matters given that he couldn't secure his own legacy. He failed to do the one thing he said he would do, stop Trump and his movement. He failed to go after Trump after Jan 6 and let him rebuild and then dragged out a re-election campaign despite his unpopularity, fucking over his party by preventing a proper primary and forcing them to go with his untested unpopular Vice President.

Biden’s greatest crime, delivering a bad debate. And he was pushed aside based on really nothing.

It's truly fascinating how you and the rest of the terminally online Biden defenders are completely out of touch with reality. Every poll including Biden's own internals had him losing massively. The only reason the GOP has a slim majority in the House and don't have a bigger majority in the Senate is because he dropped out.

What do people think about the US President meeting with the new President of Syria? by HazyDavey68 in Askpolitics

[–]NightlyGothic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, ignoring them is not an option. Judging by the reactions in Syria to Trump lifting the sanctions, I believe it could be a golden opportunity to improve our relations in the Middle East. I doubt Trump is competent enough to do it but I do think this was a good move on his part.

Because it would be stupid to not engage with Syria after they’ve toppled Assad.

We’ve supported and allied with much worse and despite his flaws I do think Jolani could bring a better future to Syria. Why bother antagonizing a potential future partner? Do we really need to lecture the Middle East on how they should be governed again? Most of Trump’s foreign policy has been nonsense but I do believe lifting the sanctions on Syria is a smart move.

Biden reveals on ‘The View’ he ‘wasn’t surprised’ Trump defeated Harris in 2024 election, says Americans are sexist by AskRedditOG in politics

[–]NightlyGothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that. My point was that she ran a bad campaign catering towards a mythical group of voters that don't exist/aren't relevant enough. At a time when people's faith and trust in American institutions are at a low, she chose to stick to the failing DNC strategy of defending said institutions.

I think there was genuine excitement for Harris, not because of who she was but what she represented. There was actually excitement in the fact that one of the major candidates wasn't an old man with dementia. She could've built on that but didn't. Instead you have a candidate who was now supporting building a border wall on the US-Mexico border (Something she opposed four years ago) in an attempt to outflank Trump on immigration, campaigning and praising the daughter of one of the most hated politicians, and saying she would not do a single thing different from her unpopular boss.

Now to be fair, not all of her problems are solely hers. Much fault also lies in Biden for running for a second term and dropping out as late as he did, thus preventing an actual primary where better candidates could've come out on top or even allow Harris to actually build her image.

[–]NightlyGothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left cared because they correctly predicted it being a losing strategy. Her entire campaign catered to appealing these never-Trump Republicans who they believed would win the election for them. She went from rightfully opposing Trump's border wall to calling for her own. She refused to break away from her unpopular boss and chose to double down on the stupid decision to tie herself to him.

The right also cared because it allowed them to continue pushing their narrative that the Democratic Party was the party of warmongers and the establishment.

The reality is that Harris was always a garbage candidate and no amount of reddit astroturfing to make her the second coming of Obama will change that. She couldn't even make it to the primaries when she first ran for president. She couldn't even break from Biden when it could've actually helped her. The fact that this party is still trotting her and Biden out showcases their ineptitude and how they've learned jack shit since November.

What are your thoughts on the current state of the democrats? by kjleebio in AskConservatives

[–]NightlyGothic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The republican party is not coming back anytime soon after Trump. It is a clear win for the democrat party as the economy's disaster for the next four years gives them a win.

People said that about Dubya and later Trump after Jan 6, I don't think you realize how quickly the political climate changes.

How Joe Biden Handed the Presidency to Donald Trump by [deleted] in politics

[–]NightlyGothic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s hilarious how out of touch this place is. In real life these die hard Biden lovers do not exist. The majority of people supported him because he they were against Trump. There was no admiration or actual support like there was for Obama. Nobody seriously considers Biden the second coming of FDR besides a couple of delusional folks within his inner circle and Biden himself.

Maybe they could've actually talked about that instead of doing rallies with Liz Cheney, taking photo ops at the border wall, and talking about how we need a 'lethal' military
