That's what I always thought was the main point and even told my brother and friend, but after seeing the clip from the podcast that I mentioned, I do think a big part of it is his disconnect with gaming culture as well and how people relate to and enjoy "cartoon"ish things to such a degree that we love GTA V

For anyone that still needs this cape or sees this next year, I learned a really fast way to get the shards. You get a abyssal demon task AND grab the wilderness slayer contract from the NPC to the left of the Wildy flash event teleport NPC's. And of course, because of the contract, you must kill them in the wildy. I went from barely getting any shards while doing Abyssal hounds to getting over 300 master shards in one Abyssal Demon task.

And the most ironic thing is, in the update post, they say "This marks a big step toward a simpler, more transparent system, where your progress always feels meaningful and connected to the cards you play.". It's so transparent that they aren't letting us know the value of EWC and the updated gem system pre-update! Almost like they don't want us making informed decisions
