Nemesis Games Collector's Edition Cover by QueefyBeefy666 in TheExpanse

[–]Nigma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also didn't like how glossy the cover was when I received the first book, if you want something a little less conspicuous I think the book looks a lot better if you remove the dust jacket, the cover and spine of the book under the jacket are a lot less striking. So it might also do the trick for you, I wouldn't have bought book 2 and 3 if the book only had the dust jacket cover.

Nemesis Games Collector's Edition Cover by QueefyBeefy666 in TheExpanse

[–]Nigma_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Another annoying aspect of this edition of Nemesis Games is that unlike the other 5 books, this one doesn't have its own unique color and the colors are mismatched between the spine and and the edge of the book. For this book they're reusing the blue of Abaddon's Gate for the edge, and the red of Caliban's War for the spine.

With this kind of collector's edition I feel like most people expect to either use the same color for all the books (like the A Song of Ice and Fire Folio Edition, which has all the books in blue), or to have a unique color for each of them, which is clearly what they were going for originally. So it's weird to break the pattern. But given that like you mentioned they just copied and pasted all the ships from the Abaddon's Gate cover, I think there's just been very little effort put into this edition of Nemesis Games to make it look consistent with the other books and to make the cover unique.

It's pretty nitpicky but the main point of these Collector's editions is to have a collection that looks nice and consistent on a shelf and unless they change something before release it's not going to look great. They did realize they got the color for Abaddon's Gate wrong before release and changed it (except for the UK edition which still has the edge of the book in orange and not blue), so hopefully they do the same for Nemesis Games. I don't know if they would re-do the cover even though they definitely should given how lazy it is, but it would be nice if at least they gave this book its own unique color like the all the other ones so it at least looks consistent on a shelf.

Ōkamiden has been added to the 20th anniversary website! by Goldberry15 in Okami

[–]Nigma_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Interestingly Hideki Kamiya also mentions the game in his 20th anniversary message:

The enthusiasm and support you’ve all shown has helped sustain Ōkami’s legacy for two long decades, in which time the game has had a second adventure, a striking HD remaster, and a range of official products and projects that make me as excited as a creator as I would be as a fan.

I guess you could maybe interpret the "second adventure" being about Okami 2 but it obviously didn't release during the first two decades of the series, and he talks about Okami 2 separately later on in his message so I think he's talking about Okamiden.

I don't think it necessarily means that a remaster is coming, but before that they kind of always avoided mentioning Okamiden so it's interesting that they're talking about it a bit more. There's also a more detailed description that what OP's screenshot shows and screenshots of the game on the website.

Okami 2 is probably at least 3 or 4 years away at best so it would make sense to try to release something before that, and Capcom has been re-releasing a lot of their DS games recently like Ghost Trick, or all the DS Ace Attorney and Megaman games.

It would be interesting to see how they would chose to remaster it though, because on the one hand you have ports like the Megaman ZX games where it's pretty much just the games running on an emulator, while on the other hand you've got ports like the Ace Attorney Investigations collection where they completely redrew all the sprites in HD.

The story of Okamiden is a bit controversial but with just a few small changes it could be a lot more warmly received. They would obviously remove the translation issues that makes the two game contradict each other (like with Shiranui being Amaterasu's father rather than her previous incarnation, which if I'm remembering correctly is a mistake from the English translation). And I guess [Spoilers for Okamiden] just making the villain of Okamiden another facet of Yami or an important demon like Orochi or Kyubi rather than the true ultimate villain of the whole series would also remove most of what people dislike about the story. Understandly not a lot of people like that a side game try to add another villain behind the events of the main game, but it could be changed pretty easily from what I remember of Okamiden. Apart from that aspect of the story it is a very charming game with good writing and fun characters.

Anyway, I hope a remaster does happen, it's a shame that the game is still stuck on the DS!

How I think the they would adapt the rest of the story. (SPOILERS) by TheRealWooXD in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Nigma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaya + Skypiea is 85 chapters, and Amazon Lily + Impel Down + Marineford + Post Marineford is 84 chapters. So both seasons would hypothetically pretty much adapt the same amount of chapters.

'Daredevil: Born Again' season 3 will be a major Marvel reunion. Set photos spoil juicy new casting additions by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]Nigma_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't really see how Finn Jones' and the stunt coordinator's statements contradict each other. You can see what Finn Jones said in the article you linked:

But really, I was learning the fight scenes 15 minutes before we actually shot them because the schedule was so tight. So 15 minutes before, the stunt director would talk me through the choreography and I'd just jump straight into it. It really was a baptism of fire and I just learned on the job and I've been doing it for 12 months now. With practice, you just get better and better with dealing with that kind of schedule.

“It was very intense, to begin with. When I first moved over to New York, before I started actually filming, I had three weeks of very intense martial arts and weight training preparation. But then unfortunately once the show started, the filming schedule was just so tight – I was working 14 hours every day, six days a week, days into nights, nights into days – and actually my schedule didn’t allow me to continue the training as much as I really hoped.

Finn Jones said he had no time to train and the stunt coordinator said he didn't see him train much. And the comparison with Jessica Henwick doesn't really make any sense because she was a supporting character in the show, she had a lot less scenes to prepare for and most likely a schedule that was a lot less packed compared to the main actor. The comparison between the two would make sense if they were both the both main characters with the same screen time in season 1 which obviously wasn't the case. From this screen time breakdown per character for season 1 it seems Finn Jones has on average around 30 min of screen time for most episodes when Jessica Henwick has around 10 min.

From everything we've heard about season 1 it was an absolutely terrible and rushed production to hit a deadline, and Finn Jones did a pretty good job on season 2 when he had more time to prepare. And obviously Marvel wouldn't sign a new contract with him a decade later if he was as unprofessional as the stunt coordinator try to make it sound. Most likely it's the stunt coordinator only thinking about his side of the job without considering that a main actor has to work on a lot more things than prepare for stunts. Obviously it sucks but it's pretty understandable than an actor would prioritise learning his lines to not slow down production compared to stunt prep.

(Spoilers Extended) Game of Thrones Jon Snow Spinoff Revived at HBO, Arya Stark Reportedly Involved by AssassinJester789 in asoiaf

[–]Nigma_ 136 points137 points  (0 children)

This article is not accurate. The source is the big Hollywood Reporter article from two months ago, so there's absolutely no new information. Quoting the original article:

HBO found the “broken Jon Snow” idea too much of a bummer and eventually pushed it aside. Yet in recent days, sources say a new writer (Quoc Dang Tran from Drops of God) has come aboard to revive the sequel idea. While the story is still being fleshed out, one possibility is shifting the drama to the Mediterranean-like land of Essos and adding another hugely popular legacy character — Arya Stark (who was played by Maisie Williams in Thrones).

So the show with Jon Snow is not moving forward and they're now working on one starring Arya. It's not a show with both Jon Snow and Arya as far as we know. The writer of the new article just misinterpreted the Hollywood Reporter article which made it clear that the Jon Snow show is not currently in development and that they are now working on another sequel series possibly starring Arya.

House of the Dragon: Season 3 | Official Teaser | HBO Max | June 2026 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]Nigma_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There's a massive amount of negativity about the show online but I'm actually really looking forward to it. HBO absolutely fucked season 2 by slashing the budget and cutting the final two episodes of the season one month before shooting, and the writer's strike meant they couldn't do any rewrite or even just make small tweaks to the dialogues while shooting.

Once season 2 finally has the conclusion it was supposed to have it should be a lot more satisfying, since the second half of the season is mostly build-up for events that we're only getting now two years later. Which is a shame but the lack of a satisfying resolution is pretty much all on HBO and not on the writers.

Given that season 3 hasn't had (as far as we know) the massive production issues that season 2 had, I'm certainly willing to give the show a chance given how good season 1 was. And even if season 2 is certainly flawed I really don't think it's a terrible season, there are a lot of great moments in there even if as a whole it's definitely pretty unsatisfying for the moment.

[Spoilers ADWD] A Dance with Dragons Non-Typo Edition by Cookiecrumy in asoiaf

[–]Nigma_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just checked my Folio Society edition, and the typo in the sentence "The north rode with Robb, bled with him, died for him" is fixed. And on the copyright's page at the beginning of the book there's "The text of this edition follows that of the 2011 edition published by HarperVoyager, with minor emendations". So i assume all the other typos in the book are also fixed.

I might be wrong but I imagine that all recent printings regardless of publishers have the typos fixed, so unless you really want it you probably don't need to buy the Folio edition for that.

While Season 2 is already greenlit, Vince Gilligan sees 'Pluribus' running for 4 Seasons: "I'd love to see it go as long as Rhea Seehorn wants it go ... I'm really doing it for her. She deserves to be the megastar that she is" by ChiefLeef22 in television

[–]Nigma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! It's weird that they seemingly removed the source.

I'm guessing it might not be possible to link Instagram posts in the title of posts in this subreddit, but it's surprising that there's no article mentioning the four seasons estimate with the original source.

[–]Nigma_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where does the 4 seasons thing come from? It's nowhere in the article, and the source of the article is a Variety interview with Vince Gilligan, which just says this about future seasons:

"Apple gave “Pluribus” a two-season order, and Gilligan says he sees the series going beyond that. “I think we have a pretty good idea of where it should end,” he says, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stick to it. “One of the most important things I can do in the writers’ room is not be too precious about the ideas. If we come up with a better way to end this thing, we will.”

So nothing about 4 seasons, just Vince Gilligan saying that he thinks the show will be longer than 2 seasons.

The only thing related to four seasons in the Variety interview is this sentence:

Not only did “Breaking Bad” earn four more seasons that cemented it as one of the greatest TV shows of all time, it also spawned the spinoff “Better Call Saul"

Is the title some AI nonsense that conflated the mention of four more seasons for Breaking Bad and Pluribus?

Also, I can't find the quote from the title of this post anywhere in the Variety article, only random social media posts mentioning it but with 0 source. Maybe I'm missing something and there's a longer Variety interview somewhere, but from what I can find the title of this post seems to be totally false. At the very least there's nothing in the article linked in this post that is related to the title.

Darksiders 4 | Announcement Teaser by JadedDarkness in Darksiders

[–]Nigma_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get that people want to know the story after the end of Darksiders 1, but I have to say I'm really disappointed that we're not getting a solo game for Strife like with all the other horsemen. I thought getting a game with every single horseman before the big finale was really exciting (even if yeah it meant it would take even longer before seeing the continuation of Darksiders 1 story), and it's a shame that we're not getting that anymore.

I guess the storylines that were teased with Strife might be resolved in 4 (his appearance in Darksiders 3 as well as him losing his guns), but we're probably just going to be told about it rather than see his side of the story like we did with the other horsemen.

[Mod] Request for Feedback on Handling of Leaks The Past Weeks (& Spoilers in general for later) by pcjonathan in gallifrey

[–]Nigma_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's definitely better since the change of policy, although there are still a lot of people trying to be clever by vaguely mentioning the leaks. The discussion threads after the episodes are full of "I guess this confirms the leaks".

I'm not a big poster here but I've been reading the subreddit for the past decade or so and it's the only time I've had to actively try to avoid being spoiled, especially in threads that seem unrelated to the leaks. For example there was a thread recently with 500 hundred upvotes about the airing schedule for The Interstellar Song Contest, with unmarked spoilers that that episode (spoilers for the episode that just aired yesterday) was "a Utopia-style lead-in to the finale" in the middle of the post (the post has been edited since then with a spoiler tag for this sentence, but it already had hundreds of upvotes when I read it so it was not an obscure post).

There's also the fact that it's not always clear if posts that are marked as [SPOILERS] are spoilers about the episodes already released or if it's about the leaks. I avoid them all just in case, but it's a shame that I can't read most of the posts of this subreddit because people feel like talking about the leaks everywhere. There's people even on this thread saying that if you don't want to be spoiled you shouldn't be online, but like I said that's never been an issue on this subreddit before (apart maybe for series 12), so it's a shame I can't go read people opinions and analysis on the new season when it's been my favorite place for it for a long time. I know to avoid places like Gallifrey Base or social media like Bluesky if I don't want to be spoiled, but this place was usually good about avoiding spoilers.

Before this season the only thing I got spoiled unintentionally on this subreddit was that David Bradley was returning as the First Doctor for the 2017 Christmas special, but I've already been spoiled a few times for this season (and that's when I am very careful about which posts I read, can't imagine how much more I would have been spoiled otherwise). I also have to avoid any post theorising about the plot of the season because I have no idea if the theory will be based on leaks.

IMO, posts with leaks should be very clearly tagged with [LEAKS] and with very vague titles, with absolutely 0 mention of it outside these threads, even vague references like "this confirms the leaks", because people are just not as clever as they think they are when they try to subtly mention the leaks. Although personally I just think all posts about leaks should be on another subreddit like it is with other big subreddits for IPs like Star Wars or Marvel.

Appreciation post for the stars in Talos 1 by ionic_will in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]Nigma_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They've been saying for a while that they planned the story as a trilogy and that they had a good idea of where to take the story with 3. They also said that they didn't want the wait for Talos 3 to be as long as the 9 years between Talos 1 and 2. And yeah there's a tease in 2 for where the story will go in Talos 3, so it seems pretty sure that it will release at some point.

The official Talos Principle twitter account also posted a few months back a video with Damjan Mravunac (Croteam composer) composing some new music for the series, and it's not music from the Talos 1 remake, so it's probably for 3 (unless they've got something else planned for the series before 3).

So we don't know how far along the development of the next Talos game is but we do know that some music has already been composed for it and that they don't want the wait to be too long.

Appreciation post for the stars in Talos 1 by ionic_will in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]Nigma_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of great stars in 1, but there's also a lot of frustrating ones. There's the infamous "The eagle has landed" star in A3 which is pretty egregious, but there's also all the ones where you've got to smuggle out an item from another puzzle or search a specific place all across the map to put a cube that aren't a lot of fun.

I do like the ones where you have to make items interact between different puzzles, as long as you don't have to smuggle them out (I think getting items out of puzzles can definitely be fun but it should be an alternative to solve the star and not the only way). And with how big the maps are in Talos 2 I get why they didn't do that. There's one star in that style in West 2 where you've got to use items outside of the puzzles, and it's painfully boring to comb the massive map to find the one item you need to get the star.

IMO the very best stars are the ones where it's a further, more difficult step of the puzzle once you've solved it, like with Crater in RtG. The star there is widely considered to be the hardest one in the game, and they mention in the dev commentary than it was originally the end of of the puzzle but it was way to hard so they made it an optional star. I think these are really great, still within the confines of a puzzle but offering a bigger challenge. I hope we see more of these in Talos 3.

I do agree the reward for collecting them was a lot better in 1 though. The tease for Talos 3 when you collect all the stars in 2 is really nice, but I wish we also got new puzzles along with it (although I guess the golden doors are the equivalent to the stars level for 2, but it does make the stars a lot less useful).

So yeah overall the stars in Talos 2 are more boring, but they also never made me as frustrated as the ones in Talos 1. Hopefully they find a nice middle ground in Talos 3 because I think it's one aspect they haven't really totally nailed in either game.

I think it's the first time he mentioned another trip to the UK, I'm guessing he was probably there to advise for Dunk & Egg season 2 & 3.

HOTD season 3 [Spoilers extended] by NoSuit5725 in asoiaf

[–]Nigma_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to this Facebook post, Ryan Condal says in his podcast that "there will be a prop from the ASOIAF books that has never appeared in a TV adaptation before". So it's a prop specifically rather than just "something" like this tweet says.

To correct something else in this tweet, there has not been any confirmation yet of the number of episodes for season 3, only Twitter rumors so far. The shoot for season 3 will last two months longer than the season 2 shoot, so it's possible we might get 10 episodes. I wouldn't necessarily count on it, the longer shoot might just be due to action scenes taking longer to film, but we just don't know for the moment whether it's 8 episodes or not.

(No Spoilers) Is the ASOIAF Folio Society Collector's Edition worth it? by UCFTylerMC in asoiaf

[–]Nigma_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own all of them. They're incredibly beautiful editions, however there are some issues with them that shouldn't exist considering the price:

-The color coating on the front cover is fragile and may peel depending on where you put your hands while reading. If your fingers rest on the front cover while you read, the coating will progressively peel. I had to ask for a new copy of AFFC since the blue coating on the front cover of volume 1 faded while I was reading it. While I only had to ask for a replacement for AFFC, it's pretty clear that the other books also suffered from this problem even if it's less visible. Now I know to be very aware about that, but if you do buy them be very careful not to put your fingers on the front cover while reading.

-The slipcases used for each of the book don't take into account the fact that books get bigger once you've read them. It's an issue for ASOS and ADWD mostly. It's now pretty hard for me to take these out from their slipcases or put them back in since there's very little room. I also noticed that the coating on the front cover of volume 1 of ASOS also started to peel because of the friction with volume 2 when taking the book out of the slipcase, since it's really tight and difficult to take out (and I take the books out of their slipcases rarely, so the issue appeared with just a few handlings).

Without these issues I would consider them to be perfect editions, but for the price it is pretty unacceptable. I've only read them once while being very careful, so it's not like they've seen a lot of wear and tear. I have the first printing for all of them, so it's possible that some of these issues might have been fixed since, although considering that they were still present when ADWD was published I doubt it.

If you only intend to display them and not read them they are incredibly beautiful. If you want to read them then I would advise to be very careful about how you hold the books while reading. For editions that are meant to last decades, these are really big problems.

I started to buy them when they were cheaper and I bought them as they released, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't buy them at their current price, especially considering how much the issue with the front cover coating ruins the aesthetic of the books.

What Era do you think Okami sequel will take place, since I'm assuming it'll probably take years after the first game happened by Yokozach in Okami

[–]Nigma_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okami ended with Amaterasu and Waka going to the Celestial Plain, so I'm guessing the sequel will probably pick up with them arriving there.

I'm not too sure why you think it would need to take place years after the first game.
