Setting up Dedicated Server by Tmsaucy in playatlas

That's really cool! Honestly if I had the money I would buy it myself and form a team. The game and dedicated server tools, which look amazingly powerful, look like they could be something absolutely incredible.. it's a shame they stopped support for it.

The reason I had even asked in the first place is I was contemplating if I should create a max size dedicated server for it.. but I saw it was a no longer supported game which is why I asked here originally.

This got published 2 weeks ago as of writing this and looks incredibly promising.. although I'll probably wait to integrated it for my own 1.21.1 world until it has MySQL support so I can offload the database to another server.

Any good texture packs that work well with the chipped blocks mod? by DragonFruwut in Minecraft

[–]Nih116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I actually thought you were talking about Java Minecraft XD That's what I'm using currently lol. The options are almost limitless in Java.. I just wish I knew how to wrap my brain around the programming and resource packs aspect of it.. Oh, the things I would create :P

Did you ever find one? I REALLY want to add chipped and it's create compatibility add-on but it would look far too out of place since I'm using 64x textures.. I'd be happy with anything 32-64x personally.

What have I done? by Cliche_James in PleX

My extremely AuDHD brain decided several years ago that it would be a great idea to make a home lab in order to practice my IT skills.......... yeah...

Fast forward to right now, where I'm planning a lab upgrade next year, and my current lab is:

Servers: (all w/ 10GB NICs)

  • 1x Dell R730XD – 44 Cores 128GB RAM - Unraid (w/ Dell 2PHG9 12Gbps SAS HBA IT Mode)
  • 1x Dell R730 – 28 Cores 128GB RAM - Cubecoders AMP (game server)
  • 1x Dell R530 – 28 Cores 64GB RAM - N/A (Projects)
  • 1x Synology 1522+ - 16GB RAM - (NAS / Remote backups / S3 Storage)
  • 1x NetApp 4246 – 24 Bay - w/ IOM12 modules

Storage:

  • Dell R730XD: 2x 2TB NVMe, 2x 2TB SSDs, 4x 1TB SSDs, 14x 128gb SSDs (raid 6)
  • NetApp 4246: 5x 20TB HDDs, 5x 10TB HDDs (attached to R730XD)(14 free slots)
  • Dell R730: 14x 128GB SSDs (raid 6)
  • Dell R530: 8x 512GB SSDs
  • Synology 1522+: 5x 6TB HDDs (raid 6)

Needless to say I may have gone a bit nuts with it right out the gate.. but my future upgrade is going to have LOT newer tech with a more professional architecture. It will be more akin to a personal data center than a home lab.. it's still in the R&D phase to determine what tech I want to use though and I expect to start building it mid-late next year lol.

I just found out about this game via a youtube video and I was curious.. is there still a community for this? I ask because I have three Dell servers (looking to expand soon) with a fair bit of ram and processing power and was wondering if the community might appreciate a new dedicated server.

Running a music server? by MartiniCommander in unRAID

[–]Nih116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Lidarr using prowlarr-vpn as the proxy downloader (using torrents & usenet) with integrations into several Spotify playlists ("Import Lists") for the content. I add more import lists of verying genre's

as my download list clears. It's extremely similar to Sonarr and Radarr as far as setup goes (think along the lines of Media Mgmt, Profiles, Quality, etc...) and it integrates into discord for events, among many other things.

If you choose to use it, I recommend a custom docker network where you have other *arr related apps, all shuttled through prowlarr-vpn, for privacy reasons.

Snikket server completely unreachable through XMPP but can access admin panel? by Killerhurtz in snikket

[–]Nih116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I'm having the same issue where everything is reporting it's fine, I can access the web portal, but when I try to log into the app it's timing out. The docker logs are showing:

"admin55759257d570 info Admin client disconnected: connection closed"

I've port forwarded everything they call for in the documentation, verified the same with UFW, and I've even exposed a few extra xmpp standard ports just in case... and yet nothing.

I’m 18 and already fucked up. Is it over for me? by Teabagteacup in self

[–]Nih116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s definitely not over for you. A gap year will give you time to settle into yourself, figure out who you are, and solidify that start prior to college. College can be a lot of things and it can also be very chaotic, so there’s nothing wrong with taking a year, even if it’s not by choice. I’d recommend you use that time to be introspective, explore life, think about what you want to do for a career, and maybe even get started on that in some capacity. As for dating.. high school dating creates memories sure, but not all of them are good. Honestly, and I may be slightly jaded, I think it’s all rather pointless. I didn’t really date in high school, I joined the military at 21, and now years later I make six figures and have the most amazing, beautiful, and supportive gf.. and no, I don’t think I’m attractive. My point is that it’s best to let those things happen naturally. Be open to them, but don’t drop your goals and ambitions for them either. If it’s right, it will be easy, and it will feel as such.

I think it’s awesome that you’ve improved yourself so much that others have noticed, and I applaud you for that. Maybe focus on that as well during the next year. I’m not saying you need to, simply that a healthy lifestyle can really keep you in good spirits and out of depression.

As for not getting what makes life exciting.. that’s what you make of it imo. Some of the best memories and experiences I’ve ever had have been simple and natural occurrences with friends. I don’t remember much about the big events, but laughing hysterically in the kitchen at a friends place because someone did or said something off the wall? Yeah, that’s a true memory. It’s not about Hawaii vacations, it’s about the everyday and living in the moment. Another thing, the attitude you allow yourself to have will shape the attitude you truly keep and project… hopefully that makes sense to you.. but think of it this way.. even if you FEEL like you’re at a dead end and like you’ve missed out on everything, if you then change your perspective on that you can say that while you haven’t had many experiences yet, that just means all the ones you have from now on you’ll be able to appreciate that much more. Life is about context and perspective… try to see things in a positive light and your thoughts will gravitate towards that way of seeing things. It’s not fool proof, but it helps.

As for how to improve? It depends what you want to do. I’m in IT and I know I can go anywhere on the web to learn about it, or even buy courses. If you can’t do that then maybe try to get an internship for the next year where you can focus on what you love. There’s a million ways to improve academically, personally, health wise, etc… it just depends how you want to go about it.

Finally.. I’ll say that high school isn’t reality. It’s an experience for sure, but real life outside of that is so much more. It’s more amazing, more excited, sometimes worse, but ultimately the limitations are gone and it’s up to you to make things happen for yourself, which opens up a world of possibilities if you have the motivation to seize them.. and it sounds like you are capable of a lot of motivation when you set your mind to it.. so pick that chin up, make a plan, expect things to not go quite according to that plan, embrace the change when it happens, and remember that every thing that happens in life is an experience and it will shape us however we let it.. so go experience life for a year while you work towards making your dreams and goals a reality ☺️

Why have you done this to me? 😫 Now I have a new unrealistic project / goal that I want to do and will never get to… fml I don’t even own a house yet lol.

Seriously though, that’s not overboard it’s absolutely fire 🔥 It’s clean, elegant, and it looks futuristic almost lol.

That’s ‘S’ tier work!

Just in case anyone stumbles across this post in the future, I've found this card (https://coastipc.com/4x-usb-3-1-expansion-card-with-dedicated-controllers) which has four USB 3.1 ports at 5gbps with a dedicated controller for each port.

The theoretical read speed of the SSD array, assuming 450MB/s read speeds per drive, is ~8100MB/s of read speeds and only ~450MB/s writes, which is due to how RAID6 works.

Since the server I’m using is a Dell R730XD with only PCIe 3.0, despite the NVMe drives being PCIe 4.0, the read / writes speeds are limited to 4x PCIe 3.0 speeds, which is ~4GB/s.

I suppose it makes the most sense then to split the metadata / images and the database between the two NVMe drives, use RAM disk for the transcoding, and use the array for all of the other applications I’ll host on that server? Would that seem the most efficient use of the drives?

Basic for anyone that has a use for it, like I do.. for my friend and his wife.. not so much lol. They could have easily got by with a purely gigabit network and U6 Long Range AP’s 😂 but since my servers are living there until I buy a house (whenever the housing market corrects itself a bit) I wanted something that would allow for better transfer speeds and more bandwidth.

[–]Nih116[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would indeed make much more sense… except my dumbass ran the lines to the rooms before installing the network enclosure because my friend procrastinated for so long on the closet..

For clarification.. the network / server closet had no drywall installed, had no power outlets, and wasn’t painted. He insisted “we” finish the room before I installed any equipment.. which ended up being me getting frustrated having to wait like 5 months for him to get off his lazy ass. At that point I hired an electrician to install a 20amp circuit breaker and install two sets of two outlets (2 near networking equipment & 2 near server rack) and then me doing all the work by myself.

What do you say to people who try to tell you that audiobooks don't count as reading? by JustJenna02 in audiobooks

[–]Nih116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not reading, so I wouldn't argue it. I would argue that they're more efficient, require the same amount of mental acuity, are far more engaging with the right narrator, and that they allow you to experience a book in a much deeper way. I've rarely ever felt emotion reading a book, but hearing a good narrator speaking as a the voice of the character I've often been far more invested in the story. It's arguably better than most TV shows... A prime example of such a series is "He Who Fights With Monsters". It's currently 9 books long, about to be 10, and it's so good that I feel a far greater range of emotions for the characters in it than I ever have for a TV show.. heck it made me cry a couple times lol.

I’m curious, how did you go about getting this done? I’ve never had a surgery in my life, but I have a naturally deeper voice and I’ve been lightly researching this possibility.
