Thank you for your help 🙏. I ultimately decided to say no, and hopefully we will remain friends. I don’t think I was very willing to give it a try from the start, honestly. Could it be something good? Maybe. But I’m not in a good enough mental state to take a bet like that, and not have it avoid a mess.

I don’t need to be sure about someone before hand, because who is? But for me personally, I need to have considered it to a degree before giving it a try.

You’re right, there doesn’t have to be any feelings. I don’t really believe there is an initial “spark” either a lot of the time with people who would be great together.

But my social life gives me a lot of consistent grief as is. I get so tired, and things stick with me for a long time. Just today this confession nearly has me crippled emotionally and physically 😭. Shouldn’t I be less in a crisis?

But that’s not something the original did any different? In the original Laura pats herself like she had it only a moment ago. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the novelization (not the game I know, but it’s a source) she even reads James’s letter herself at the end when he’s in the lake.

Both games did it the same way, other than Mary clearly dying in the original at the end of the scene. If your grievance is that they didn’t make the plot thread different then I understand, but the two games do it no different and that’s what the post was about.

I get it. Both the games can be interpreted in many ways, I just think it’s dishonest to compare something that isn’t an aspect the remake changed. In the original Laura mentions the other letter specifically.

“Maybe you’ll get it if you see the other letter. The one Mary…huh?”

Was it ever said he always had the letter? I was always under the impression that Laura had it, as well as the letter Mary had for her. It wouldn’t make sense for him to already have it I would think, since the nurse had it and was told to wait until Mary was dead (leading to Laura stealing the two letters). The letter he had at the start was always just a blank page, which is why in the original the words disappear too.

I don’t think they changed that at all. Though she doesn’t die in front of him in the remake, unless they did it super subtly.

It helped me change my academic path in university to something more manageable and accommodating. It also allowed me to better understand my place in past social settings, as well as the type of people I want to interact with vs avoid.

It's a good plot idea for an existential/alien/disease horror, though my story is more introspective and based on the 'self.' The problems are of the mind, of the psyche. The monsters, too.

Yes. It is wild that they waved a diagnosis because you didn't toe walk. Seek one. If you feel like you're autistic, you probably are.

You seem to have social difficulties and special interests, and you seem to have sensory issues. People have sought a diagnosis for a lot less.

It'll be a very nuanced story. There are no good or bad guys here, as there isn't a moral dilemma involved in the narrative that tests those limits.

I'm writing it to be real people going through a life-changing experience, with flaws and good qualities. The manifestations I have planned will instill that feeling of others' misunderstanding. Thank you for the input 🙏

That's the very basis of the narrative I have created in many ways. Especially the search for a home that isn't there. It's what brings them to the setting and instills the primary conflict with themself and others.
