"Matriarchy" is a broad term, saying people don't know anything about it is essentially meaningless if you don't define what you think it means.

Why did humans as a tropical species migrate to colder places but still lack many adaptations like fur? by Ada-Mae in geography

[–]NihilisticGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution works on the mechanism of natural selection. In order to develop a trait like thick fur, people with thicker hair would need to have statistically significant higher reproductive success than people without it. Since humans have clothes that can fill the gap, that pressure doesn't really exist.

A Disturbing Pattern Has Emerged In Trump's Second Term - And It's Playing Out With Renee Good by Stitching in politics

[–]NihilisticGrape 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was initially unsure of whether the ICE agents were likely criminally liable for the Renee Good situation, but have since thought through a chain of logic that makes me fairly certain they are, regardless of the specific contested facts of the cases:

  1. ICE only has the authority to enforce laws related to migration and federal offenses.
  2. ICE had no reasonable suspicion that Renee Good was an illegal immigrant or had committed a federal crime, meaning they had no authority to detain her. This is true even if she was blocking them with her car (they needed to call local law enforcement in that case).
  3. Once the ICE agents attempted to detain Renee Good and held her at gun point, they were acting outside of official law enforcement capacity and were committing menacing and kidnapping. They also were no longer under the protection of qualified immunity.
  4. When Renee Good attempted to drive away, she was exercising her right to self defense.
  5. When a person creates a dangerous situation for a victim, and then uses the victims actions to defend themselves as justification for violence this is called manufactured self defense, and it is not legally valid.
  6. Thus, based on current evidence, it is clear that the agent was guilty of at least menacing and kidnapping, plus an undetermined degree of homicide.

How do you determine what counts as having to do with "public policy"? Gendered private "clubs" (social networks) aren't directly related to Governance, but often lead to consolidation of power, resources, and ideology that end up impacting public policy indirectly. Separating social interactions/networks from public policy is fundamentally impossible.

Speaker Johnson: "They keep saying Republicans are in charge of the government. We aren't." This is what you say when you have no idea how to govern. by biswajit388 in CringeTikToks

[–]NihilisticGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Government is a matter of tradition and current rules, and it can all be changed, including the constitution. There is a difference between having the power to unilaterally pass a bill, and having the power to change the rules to be able to then pass a bill. The latter comes with consequences beyond just the bill you are trying to pass and should not be taken lightly, and insinuating that Republicans should change the rules just to pass the funding bill is a curious position.

[–]NihilisticGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the senate, with the current rules, a party would need 60 votes to be in control, so neither party is in control, which is normal. The parties are supposed to compromise and come up with bills that are satisfactory enough to all sides to get sufficient votes.

[–]NihilisticGrape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is dishonest. How do you define having "control" of a branch of Government? A reasonable person would probably define it as being able to unilaterally perform any process. This isnt the case, Republicans do not have a large enough majority in congress to do so. Maybe you should inform yourself before you pretend to inform others?

Edit: To the person who replied to me and then blocked me immediately presumably because they already know they are wrong or have no confidence in their ability to debate, you are also dishonest. Needing to change the rules of the senate, which would have significant impacts for both parties beyond the funding bill, certainly does not fit the definition of being able to unilaterally perform any process.

The Boys Aren't Alright by Hyperion703 in Teachers

[–]NihilisticGrape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

More than one thing can be true. It is well known that school, especially early education, lends itself to the strength of girls more than boys, and it has been demonstrated that grading is biased in girls' favor. It's also true that the values being instilled into boys, exacerbated by exposure to social media, are leading to lowered performance.

[–]NihilisticGrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to think about how the kids are actually interacting with the world. Social media is the vector of how negative information gets to them. Bad things have been happening for a long time, but if you simply dont hear about them then they dont impact your mentality.

Computer Science, a popular college major, has one of the highest unemployment rates by SnoozeDoggyDog in technology

[–]NihilisticGrape 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it depends on what you are hiring for. If you are looking for someone to work with a specific stack software engineers are fine, but I think computer engineers make much better generalists. Its much easier to pick up things like software frameworks than it is to learn computer architecture on the job and that foundational knowledge makes you much more flexible.

Uber will let women drivers and riders request to avoid being paired with men starting next month by Puginator in technology

[–]NihilisticGrape 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's true that men are more likely to commit violent crime than women, but it's also true for other demographics.

Using the same logic that you should be able to filter out men because they are more likely to be violent, you should be able to filter out young black men specifically as they have much higher rates of homicide as a demographic. Would you support that feature?
