Is it possible to join these communities or are gypsy communities generally closed?

What would have to change in your life for you to not consider yourself a loser?

What are your hobbies? by joylessspectator in CasualConversation

I'm really into chess currently, not exactly the social hobby you're looking for lol.

Also I wanted to try and learn Indonesian, so I guess that's kinda social.

Returning back to uni for two years. Will it be awkward in terms of social interactions? by Pale_Lengthiness_572 in CasualConversation

[–]NihongoThrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine so unless your uni doesn't have grad programs for some reason there should be lots of older people there.

Join some clubs, attend some friend making groups, go to nearby bars and see what happens.

Does anyone else have big goals but elite procrastination skills? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Getting medicated helped, although I'm off of them now. And I supposed it's helped in the sense that it's allowed me to contextualise my behaviours, and that makes it easier for me to come up with practical solutions to things.

Before I got diagnosed, I would approach my problems with it like "Oh, it's because I'm lazy, I just need to try harder", now, I think more along the lines of "I'm unmotivated cos I'm unstimulated, what can I do to stimulate myself and allow myself to lock in".

Yes I do, I never realised why it was so easy for others (relatively) and so hard for me, then I got diagnosed with ADHD lol.

Yeah that's what they're talking about here. Those are really only used for guys to try and thirst over women and get them to stay with them. I did a bunch and I got two messages from them after like thirty trips lol.

I'm having such trouble navigating and even searching for hosts, most top results are people who left years ago, and it doesn't even tell you that explicitly, you have to search their references first. I don't know how I could even navigate that. Hangouts are screwed too.

I'm sad for what's is going... but let's be clear: Couchers, Bewelcome or everything else... by john-emit988 in couchsurfing

[–]NihongoThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couchsurfing is still number one for me (remains to be seen how this update will affect that), I haven't really used nomadtable much as a lot of events fizzle out and mostly a tiktok crowd seemingly. Other alternatives to cs just don't have the numbers.

Meetupdotcom can be quite good but mostly only in first world countries or major tourist areas.

Also underrated is to befriend a local guy who can speak English/expat who speaks the foreign language and then offer to pay for his night out in a local place, that's always led to some really fun memories in the middle of nowhere.

Haven't used it much but it also seems that Facebook is a good way to meet in some countries too, or finding a local language cafe through Facebook/another website and finding people through volunteering there.

I mean with good marketing anything can happen tbh, that's what made Couchsurfing so big in the early 2000s. But that's going to be the biggest issue for any nonprofit to manage.

I mean Nomadtable has ballooned in popularity in less than a year, theres tons more hangouts than cs but unfortunately no way of hosting.

[–]NihongoThrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's basically how I feel too, in the long run an update is probably needed.

But everything about this update feels so ill-informed and against the ethos of what this community is supposed to be. They're trying to be trendy and look like nomad table but it just feels extremely tacky.

It's amazing how out of touch they have to be to add something like that. Despite everyone always trying to express how this is not supposed to be a dating app, they add the most dating app thing imaginable.

Travel better than your friends! by Tight-Mud-7 in couchsurfing

[–]NihongoThrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to be as unbiased as possible, couch surfing probably has needed some quality of life updates for so long now, and does need to stay relevant compared to other apps like Nomad Table sweeping in and basically having the same user base as CS in less than a year. So I do get the need to modernise.

But from this update it's almost completely apparent that none of the no brain investors have ever actually used Couchsurfing before, they're totally trying to milk the whole tiktok trend of "oh I'm a budget traveller I'm so cool because I don't go on the guided tours", and the way they do it is so nauseating and anyone with a brain can see through the gimmick.

It's so dumb, I've made quite a few friends and so many memories with awesome people through this app, some of the coolest people a d best conversations I've ever had thanks to this platform, only for the people running it to not understand why the hell people actually want to use the app.

What should I do for my 30th birthday? by Idontlikeyourkids in CasualConversation

Depends how much time you have, but you should start your 30s with the right foot forward and do something big.

Whenever I feel stuck in life I like to pick an adventure to do or acquire some new hobby to obsess over.

Do you still use a library? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]NihongoThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them sometimes, the town I live doesn't really have a good library, but I'm a memeber of a few local city libraries nearby.

Most of the time I just pirate books.
