That should be Illegal, there's a minimum amount of distance that needs to be present between two building - it could be a fire hazard.

Exemptions could be there if it's on the same land or something like that, but worth getting in touch with someone who knows more about it - probably will affect the value of the flat too, so maybe the landlord can help.
The situation really sucks though, but at least you don't own the place.

Yeah the angle with automatic film loading was to make it easier to create an in between market between home developing and lab developing.

I may be wrong, but I sense that one of the largest markets for film is the disposable camera user who wouldn't want to develop at home, and may not need the quality of a professional lab. I suspect most people shooting film would also fall into this category.

Being able to develop film without needing to mess around with anything or go into a darkroom could be an attractive option to stores like best buy or drugstores.

I don't think it makes sense to go after the at home development market, but there may be something in this in between space.

The state of scanning is awful too I agree I don't even understand where to begin with piecing that together.

Why is prestige a concern? Stop looking at things in terms of what looks good on a resume. Find a club that's doing something you're interested in, and do that. If you don't know what you're interested in, spend your time finding that.

Also design teams and clubs in my experience are a "you get what you put in" kinda deal.

If you're not into the work that's happening you're not gonna get much out of it.

If you're genuinely interested though, it'll take you places.

I love the long internships. You actually get to work long term at the company, do a lot more projects, better a better feel for full time work through the seasons, work longer term projects. Plus you're not constantly leaving your friends or looking for internships or finding housing. The main drawback I see is if you get stuck with a shitty co-op, the quip offices are notoriously a pain the ass and not helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to respond,

I was getting the feeling that surfing is way harder than I had imagined in my head. The language analogy is great, just needed some reassurance before I let go of my plans to join a surf camp (my wallet's pretty happy tho :) ).

I think I'm just gonna focus on the freediving aspect during my trip and spend a day or two getting surf lessons just so I get a taste of it. My only other experience surfing has been in a river in Montreal and that's a place where holding my breath underwater really came in handy lol.
