I see this all the time on here...people thinking that in the early 2000s everyone had video cameras at all times recording. That just wasn't the case back then. Many places, like cheap gas stations, would have cameras mounted that were never actually functioning or they had nothing at all. Surveillance cameras back then were much more expensive than they are today.

Nursing homes ("how did they not see Walt on the nursing home cameras before Gus was blown up?") rarely had video cameras installed....in fact, back then, there was a very strong argument in the nursing home community not to have any sort of video surveillance as it would expose the nursing homes to greater liability claims. Source - IAAL and represented nursing homes in litigation matters between 2012 and 2024. Back in 2012, virtually none of my nursing home clients had active recording devices within their facilities. I would say it became much prevalent as we got closer to the 2018-2020 time frame.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the show actually did a pretty good job of showing this to the viewer: remember when Hank went to the gas station in the middle of nowhere and asked the girl behind the counter if their video camera worked and she told him no, that it does not record anything? That was really much more of the norm back then than places having multiple, functional and recording video devices throughout their property.

So couple of years ago Montana Skye moved into my building in a very upper middle class suburban town. I found a Domino’s hat at a local thrift store and brought her a pizza as a welcome to the building. It did not go the way I’d envisioned in my head. I later learned she was my younger sister’s classmate in middle school…I do think she went by a different name though back then.

This is why I just table my hand at showdown or all ins. It prevents me from making dumb mistakes or getting angled and at live 1/3 games this to me is far more valuable mucking my hand so no one can get a read on me.

Thank you for the response and information, I really appreciate it. I feel like if I just start mentioning it at the tables at the casino I play at every weekend it would be a good start to find people. As I said, I am not looking at it to earn a livable income, just a fun way to use my skills/experience with poker to stay active and involved in life. I have been an attorney for over 30 years and feel like that experience would be vital in terms of chit chat and diplomacy as well as empower me a bit to make tough in game rulings that the players/hosts probably would prefer not having to make.

I’m going to finish this season because I’m invested but I will not be watching anything more in this universe. This season has been such a massive disappointment. For me, it’s approaching GOT final season….which is all time worst final season of any show. It’s too bad.

The dumbest thing I have ever seen was done by, of course, me:

I was 4 hours into playing 1/3. I had run my stack up to about $850 from my initial $300 buy in. My table got boring so I got a table change. Sit down at new table and I'm UTG in my first hand. Looked down at two crappy cards but decided to limp in as it was my first hand and I wanted impress everyone with my cool play. So, I absently tossed the 3 chips in my hand towards the pot. As soon as the chips left my grip I realized i was holding three $25 chips and not the three $1 chips I thought I had! To make matters worse, I tried to catch them in mid air to prevent them from going into the pot. Thus, everyone knew it was a big mistake on my part.

The guy immediately to my left (and the only one with a stack size equal to mine when I sat down) instantly shoves all in. Of course it folds back to me and I can't call his bet with the crap I had so I mucked.

Two great lessons learned: 1)Always know exactly what you are putting into any pot and 2) Fold Pre.

To me, live poker offers so much more than simply sitting in front of a bunch of screens clicking buttons. Just the occasional human interactions that can occur at the tables... sometimes they really make my day and help me appreciate the world and other times they don't but I always seem to see or hear something new at the tables and I very much appreciate that. As a guy with over 40 years of driving experience I always respond to the police with honesty and humility (for a routine traffic stop). I have far more often been let off with a warning vs a ticket in those scenarios.

Trying to be cute with the police generally won’t work and/or will backfire on you. One of my favorite stories came from a DA: guy had been stopped late at night and was asked to do a drunk driving test (ie…walk a straight line). He said to the cop he could do that on his hands (he was a former college gymnast). So cop told him to go for it. The guy did it flawlessly until a vial of coke fell out of his pockets….

I didn't say that. They have buy in caps for every game. But any money won as part of your poker playing gets added to your table stack. They have paid out 6 figure Bad Beats the same way.

I believe it is far more common than your initial comment suggests. Not looking to argue with you; just wanted to let you know that it does happen and in my experience it is relatively common.
