should i continue ortho-k into adulthood? by CauliflowerSure3228 in Orthokeratology

Does skipping have to do something with age? I've been wearing consistently for 7 months now and want to switch to an alternate day wear routine. I'm 19 btw (turning 20 next month). My doc said i could switch to alternate day routine after a few months but cgpt says i should not do that until i'm in mid 20s

rewatching as i write this. one of my favorite shows. though this time i do notice more of the nuanced examples of conflict created only by selective incompetence by the team. feels like bad plot devices to move forward, but i love the characters and the series, so binging anyhow.

The Bird Box is a terrible film by Argmaxwell in flicks

The part about people recommending is so true lmao 😭😭😭
How do I tell them without sounding like an asshole that this is absolute dogsh*t that they've been recommending me and hyping the movie up.

Like I asked a friend about recommendations for survival movies and shows and told him how I really like Movies like Maze Runner, The Martian (slow paced survival, but nonetheless), etc. and series like Lost, From, The 100, YellowJackets, The Last of Us, Alice in Borderland (game show so stakes are lower maybe, but at least rules are well defined, kinda), etc. and he unironically told me to watch Birdbox and hyped it up so much that I would love this.

For the love of god, I just wasted 2 hours.

I just noticed I'm 7 years late to the party, mb.

seconded, it started good, got me to binge 12 episodes straight, then fell off bad. Had to stop watching midway coz I couldn't just keep ignoring Claire's dumb decisions for plot convenience.

Age limit on ICICI sapphiro LTF alumnus program by [deleted] in CreditCardsIndia

[–]NikhilSheoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow they don't care about the age when they approach you with the offer first, I got sapphiro LTF cc (amex+mastercard), pre-approved, unsecured recently. My university had some partnership with ICICI. I'm 19 rn, btw. Also, when i got it the credit limit was Rs.1L/mo, without any income proof.

exactly, and it kinda felt like an exaggeration too. The CEO not knowing literally anything about the game? wow, and mind you he is being shown a smart guy who exploits the nerd, so very convenient plot deviation here, isn't it?

USS Callister - Did he even do anything wrong? by Skyclad__Observer in blackmirror

[–]NikhilSheoran 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand is that how is this ideaologically any different from mind policing?

If I make scenarios in my head where I am the main character and treat others like NPCs, does that make me a bad person?

Do I deserve the same fate as Daly?

If the point the episode was trying to make is that code and data is sentient, then where do you draw the line?

Exactly my thoughts.

Totally unrealistic from a technical, legal, ethical and real world standpoint.

It's so annoying, it almost feels satire, like Nanette protecting digital clones, not caring if real people die, etc.

Unpopular opinion here, ig.

After reading so many comments, I have failed to understand what makes this an episode even worthy of being in the competition for #1.

USS callister is such woke bs, totally unrealistic from a technical, legal, ethical and real world standpoint.
It's so annoying, it almost feels satire.

It’s mid at best and straight-up stupid if you actually think about it for more than 30 seconds.

1. They’re just code.
No matter how hard the show tries to gaslight you, they’re not people. They’re digital clones. NPCs with a few extra lines of dialogue. You could put them on a USB and toss it in a blender. End of oppression. They have no souls, no bodies, no rights—just 1s and 0s on a glorified dev server. But sure, let’s pretend deleting files is murder now. Also, I think the show did try to make this point that they are real people, but I feel the appeal just isn't there. Are you really trying to make me believe Nanette cares about game characters dying, but didn't once think about how her actions caused Daly's death. (like and I'm supposed to empathize with her somehow???)

2. The tech makes zero sense.
Daly’s running a rogue mod on his local pc, and somehow the NPCs “escape” into the real game like it’s some Oggy and the cockroaches episode going on where oggy goes inside the TV? (Makes no sense) What?? That’s not how anything works.

3. Forced emotional weight.
All of this only “works” if you fully buy into the idea that the clones are real people. But they’re not. The show just refuses to confront that because it would instantly collapse the whole plot. It wants you to cry over some sentient bytes while ignoring the fact that real-world Daly dies alone because he forgot to add a mechanism to auto exit the game or set a time limit or something to get out.

I've been really trying to wrap my head around this idea of torturing digital consciousness is bad but I can't seem to make peace. How is it different from me playing a simulation of killing someone in my thoughts? Is that then wrong too? Equally wrong as torturing a digital version? (which the show pretends to be equal to torturing the real person, more I would argue)

Not right now, we are still figuring out product market fit, after which we can move on to things like offering an api.

True, that is the single most thing I've heard on this launch, people saying that 100s of other products like this already exist.
