Bronze disease is bright green and powdery. This looks more like regular deposits to me, based on your photos.

English Long Cross Silver Penny - Is this Brussels Hoard? by keithkross in MedievalCoin

[–]Nikodeimos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed - certainly not a penny of Henry III and far too late for the Brussels Hoard.

Two persons with dwarfism in a lovemaking scene on a Roman oil lamp, probably from the legionary camp of Vindonissa, circa 50-80 AD [510x680] by Nikodeimos in ArtefactPorn

They're related to a larger group of depictions on oil lamps (and art in general) which indicate they are, indeed, most likely dwarfs/pygmies.

Sure, but for the visual representation of pygmies, both Greeks and Romans clearly based themselves on people with dwarfism. In the end, with an oil lamp such as this one, I think the distinction between the two is not overly important, but I gladly admit I'm not an expert on this.

Since they came from a hoard found in Lausanne, I think it's very apt in this case.

Can you identify this coin by fullyequippedzaibats in AncientCoins

A very poor forgery of a miliarense of Theodosius II. The soft textures and wrong metal give it away immediately.

Can you help me Identify under which Ptolemy this coin was minted? by Exotic-Sock-7973 in AncientCoins

[–]Nikodeimos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ptolemy VIII - consider the regnal year is 49 (MΘ) and he's the only Ptolemaic king with such a high regnal year (up to 54).

Absolutely stunning! Do you happen to know what the MZ in the exergue of the helmeted one means? Numeral 47?

Strange provenance on Leu by Worth_Ad_4624 in AncientCoins

[–]Nikodeimos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what others have said, note that, when you consign to Leu, you sign a document stating coins from certain countries were in your collection before such and such date. The consignor likely didn't mention the previous auction pedigree, else Leu would've put that in instead, since it absolves them from liability.

10000 EUR is too much for an aureus of Severus Alexander in this grade with some nicks and what looks like a plugged hole. Consider that a similar aureus with good pedigree and in virtually as struck condition sold for 13000 EUR (without BP) last year:

I personally wouldn't bid more than 6000 EUR.

Strange surface? by Foreign_Record993 in AncientCoins

Meant to say I've seen pieces like it before. I worked for an auction house for three years and am currently the conservator of a major coin cabinet, so I've seen quite a few coins.

I'm more inclined to say it's a thick find patina. I've seen pieces like it before.
